Why Do You Have to Manually Lock In for Ranked Now?

Just why? For ages it's been an automated lock-in if you have a champion selected, and now by changing it, I have on numerous occasions accidentally dodged because I'm too used to having it lock in for me. Am I the only one? And what is the whole point of having to manually lock in. Does it benefit the players in some way?

I have literally asked the same question, and I got flamed for it. I have absolutely no idea what the reasoning is behind it.

Most likely Riot actually wants you to be in champ select longer than it takes to pick a champ then play a game of Hearthstone or check Facebook or something.

The reasoning behind the lock in mechanic was:

  1. to get people to pay attention to their team in champs select and
  2. to make games start faster since you no longer have to wait out the timer for every person who wants to finish up their hearthstone game that they started in queue by running the timer to the end.

Games start faster now as long as people pay attention and don't dodge.

gonna necro this post becuase I still hate manual locking of every champ. sometimes i want to take every second to think about my choice. my experience is more missed champ selects because ppl (including me) forget to hit the lock in button. please, bring us auto-lock if a champ is selected!

3 years later, and this still is a bad system.
