Regarding GangPlank Barrels

So just a thought, I think gangplank barrels might have too much potential stored in them , and not enough counterplay. Particularly because you can throw a barrel down as you blow another up. this has next to no counter play. its also typically 50/50 between who last hits the barrel. when that can meanthe difference between doing considerable aoe crit damage and not I think its a bit much. example of its deadlyness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qk7U1-LcaQ granted that game could have been entirely snowballed one sided, but i've watched other games that were evenly matched where the aoe crit damage was jaw dropping.

and that was just one barrel lol, not to mention with so much going on the screen its a bit much to expect people to always keep an eye out for gp barrels. the punishment for not getting it in time is a bit much. the minute you add aoe crit to something things can easily get out of hands.

Suggestion: Barrel still slow and give gp ms, but instead does flat aoe dmg and marks targets, if GP q's or autos these marked targets he deals 20% bonus crit dmg regardless of if he crits or not. this 20% could even scale with IE. turning it to 70%. something a long those lines. Its a lot more bearable when you have to physically auto people one by one to yield/ unlock the max potential. then to reap all of it at once with aoe. plus the fact that he has more mobility and can slow them synergizes/encourages him to walk up and auto them.

Now to makeup for this slight debuff, barrels could replenish themselves a bit faster.

thoughts?

Mainly, I believe the problem is that it ignores armor while doing bonus damage to champions.

Last Whisper? 85% of armor gone. Devastating Strikes? Now you have another 6%. Let's also remember everyone already puts in 21-9-0 as his masteries.

I don't think Your example is really a good one. No one on the enemy team seemed to make any attempt to defuse it, And they were glass cannons.

Also it was titled Crit Plank, So I would assume it was nearly a glass cannon build that Gangplank was building it this senario. He crit his Barrel for 1600+. Even with Tri force, I.E. and bonus damage from Parley, He would still need like 400 AD to pull that off.

Also Gangplank needs his Kegs for wave clear, So I really can't imagine them really nerfing their scaling.

even if they did react to it to try and defuse it. the window in between them last hitting it and gp's q is still 50/50. he can just expect them to hit it once and q when the barrel is at two stacks, by the time his q reaches it. and they auto it once. then it'll blow up. the velocity of his q is also difficult to contest with. all gp has to do is time it well, then rinse repeat... A GP player has a good idea of how fast barrel counters fall. he can shoot his q such that by the time it reaches the barrel it explodes.

miss it and its not then end of the world. get it and you get a handsome reward.

if it was more costly i'd be okay. it just isn't.

Good wave clear doesn't necessarily mean literally blow up entire wave in one hit. He could still blow the casters minions with one hit, front minions will be at half health or less just auto them with sheen proc/crits shouln't take long.

if its that crucial, the kegs could do bonus damage to minions.

I'll admit his barrels get strong in the later levels, but this isn't a good example. From what I'm seeing, they didn't even pay attention to the barrel and tunnel visioned the enemy team. Not only that, but the games I've played with Gangplank I only go so far as an item 3031 + item 3078 + item 3072 for extra damage and survivability, and the biggest crit I've gotten with the barrels was around 1100. Knowing GP has a rough early game and the fact that he was able to do that much damage means he's either fed or was left to farm for way too long. It's almost the same deal as with Nasus, if you allowed him to get that strong, it's your own fault for losing.
