I don't know what are you waiting for Riot ?

  • Threads on the boards are less numerous, have less upvotes and less views than in the past (you can compare if you want).

  • Half of my Friendlist went offline during s8 and now i barely see 1 or 2 people online same for my irl friends.

  • Damage is so high that when you lose you feel the one sided effect a lot and all your team want to surrender and feel without will.

  • The new runes and suppression of many old items destroyed the diversity of gameplay for the same champion (in the past with old masteries and runes and with ad ap ratios there were bilions ways to play the same character). The game gets boring easily.

  • A lot of pros and streamers criticise the way you changed the game.

  • EU and Na players which used to play more than 2 games per day are not happy with the state of the game.

  • People are so oppressed by the new restriction system that you are even afraid to taunt friendly your opponents.

  • The Client is a mess if you don't have a good computer with enough memory. The old one was more stable.

  • In my entourage no one recommends LoL to other players and in the past it was the case.

  • The core aspects of the game were totally modified, 30-40min games went to 15-30min games. Turrets became just objectives. Fights became only to kill and strategy dissappeared.

  • China wants to restrict video games influence because of addiction. So why even try to keep to bet your future there ?

You tried to proffesionnalise your game to much. You even forgot that what made your game famous was the fun and the pleasure players had when playing.

I want to say occidental players made league of legends what it is even if tencent owns it. The succes of the game its original art and concepts were part of the occidental culture of gaming not the asian one.

Shareholders and Tencent owns Riot games and they make what they want with Riot and players. They s*** on us hoping that they will milk enough of it the fastest way possible.

I'm not happy at all to see one of the best games the world has known become a mere video on demand entertainment or a pain to play game...

I'm sure at riot HQ they are like :

Meh we lost a lot of players but that's normal, they are just waiting for new season beginning to play again...

I'm going to tell you something when new ranked season will begin and you will check your numbers again you will understand what i mean.

You want to fix it ? make the game more appealing ?

Go back to basics s1 to s5. S5 if you remove the ardent censer meta the s5 is largely considered among most veterans as the best season of leagues history. Just base your gameplay on it. Go back to the old rune mastery system and give free runes. Remove lethality, reintroduce armor penetration. Revert the crit changes.

After this most of the game's issues would be fixed.

Generally, there's a course correction when things are going badly. As a recent example: WoW had a ton of changes made in 8.1 that were almost the complete opposite of 8.0 because of a massive sub dip and community backlash.

Which means one of a few things for League:

A.) They hate money and don't want more of it. B.) They hate you specifically and are so spiteful they're ruining the game JUST for you. C.) Things are fine/still profitable. D.) Things are being changed but at a slower pace.

I choose B. It took them 2 full years to even discuss giving Katarina's Shunpo a QoL speed change. 2 full years...If this were any other game dev. besides Bethesda and Blizzard, they would have listened to us in a heartbeat.

They don't hate specifically us, but they do hate the casual playerbase since that's no longer where all the money lies. Why do you think they went all out with their K/DA song? The effort put into that was infinitely more meaningful than the effort they put into balancing their own game and listening to their active playerbase.

Yeah, noticed this too, I feel like every time I looked at the front page the top posts usually had 100+ upvotes but now typically have upwards of 15, I think the highest I've seen recently getting around 200 (and usually because of controversy or extremely popular subject.)

This has always been true though...? If a post hits 15 quickly enough it’ll be the front because it’s “hot”.

Also there is a lot more dissenting opinions on the boards. During S7 Boards was SUPER fucking homogenous. Most threads against ADCs would have 95% up votes. Whereas you look at any front page thread now and they’re like 78/35.

Don’t worry, Boards is cult - like. Only the same 8-15 people that sit on new decides what 90% of the others see. People will dissenting opinions will slowly fade out.

Only in the latter portion of s7. Even before ardent cancer the boards were pretty poppin'. Ardent censer was a boost for population, sure, but it faded out when it got fixed. Even the first portion of s8 was still pretty populated, but now it feels like a ghost town.

Not much to say about this. I highly doubt the same 8-15 people are going from board to board searching for stuff to squash or promote

Hit “new” after going to Boards... it will show every board. And you will see a lot of the same people posting on those threads (and most likely voting too).

Also Ardent did not start the ADC hate train. Often there would be top threads saying “adc in 2k17 meme is stupid and ADCs are OP right now!!”. Literally consistent front page posts complaining about any viable ADC (Nerf Jhin). It’s because there were like 15 Morde mains which heavily vote manipulated boards for a long time, while clearly being duo partners/on some sort of discord. And clearly Morde players don’t want other champs to outshine then bot lane.

It’s far too fucking easy to vote manipulate the boards. That’s why champ main subreddits can make it seem like their champs are the most important/weakest.

I will say it about how i feel, but maybe some people who left feel same. A lot of respected boards users left this place just because any discussion here was pointless. Even if you create a good thread with valid points, you'll just met some randoms complaining about last champion which steamrolled them. It got monotone, discussions were nonexistant and in very low quality, boards itself were (and still are) dominated by threads made by biased mains, or assassins haters.

I agree with this a lot actually, but I wouldn't say that's entirely why. There are quite a few threads every now and then detailing how they asked riot to close there account, I'd imagine the majority wouldn't even post about it, they'd just go.

“S5 was he best besides ardent censor” ???? Wasn’t even a thing in S5.

Armour pen is literally just better than lethality. Not situationally. Always. It is actually straight up stronger than lethality. They literally changed armour pen to scaling armour pen.

S5 was “only the best” according to mage and juggernaut/tank players of S5 (that currently make the most of the boards). Let me tell you, having champions be literally unkillable while decimating squishies WAS NOT FUN. Literally 0 counterplay because you can’t kill them, towers only tickle them, CCing them doesn’t mean shit cause you’re using your CC on a tank (won’t be able to kill them anyways).

I remember during those times a lot of people would meme that mages are the true assassins. “Why pick an assassin if you can 1 shot from 800 range”. On the other hand people would also bitch about Zed and Leblanc just like they do now.

Pretty much everyone praising S5 (my selfe included) always restricts this by saying it was only good UNTIL Juggernauts and Fiora happended! Actually the patches right before the Juggernauts where the best ones to ever play on!

League is very progressive. [sg-miss-fortune]

Hellmet10 votes

It's too progressive, the game play, champs, items, runes are changed too much in too short of a time span. Imagine any game/sport that completely changes the rules every 2 weeks. It seems like every time I log in I'm downloading more changes that I have to sit down and read just so that I understand wtf is going on. This strategy is what the pros were complaining about.

Think about it, how can you play the game at a high level if they constantly change the game? You can't. How can you take a game seriously when every time you login in core rules about the game are changed? You can't, it's not fun.

And while talking about non fun mechanics that have been introduced, the new shutdown gold change is about as anti fun as I've seen in a long time. I destroy a Darius in the lane for 20 minutes, take his tower and I have effectively done my job by putting him in a defensive position. He walks mid lane, swings his weapon once for a shutdown kill getting 950 gold. Goes back to base, buys items and then proceeds to walk into a group 4 where he just mows down the team for 4 kills.. with a 1:30 time period he has 5 kills and now has more items than me and ready to win the game. Is that fun? WTF is Riot doing, it's terrible.

Leaf on Bush2 votes

That is not what I meant, but ok.

The frequent patches is Riot trying to please everyone in a community that lost touch with reality.

"Progressive" was aiming at the "restrictions that are oppressing players".

China is completely fine with western kids being addicted, so no idea what you are trying to say.

Tahminatrix 4 votes

We would thoroughly explain the last part but we are too afraid of getting our posts deleted and punished for being political.

Basically riot can lose the main population that they have been tailoring the game for.

The frequent patches is literally riot trying to figure out what the community wants because they lost touch with the community and/or riot staff are trying to compromise between their superiors / 3rd parties who want this game to be fast paced and look flashy for competitive play/esports ...and then the general playerbase who want the game to actually be good where every role is viable.

Shareholders and Tencent owns Riot games and they make what they want with Riot and players. They s*** on us hoping that they will milk enough of it the fastest way possible.

this is what breaks a lot of companies necks. not just in the gaming industry, but in many areas.

in my opinion, the stock market and speculation on company shares is a failed concept of modern capitalism and should be outright forbidden. the original ideal behind the idea was great. to allow people who work at a company to buy into shares of it, and effectively benefit with a % off the success of the same company growth that they enabled with their own work. this would also motivate the workers to make the company as successful as possible. but communism was also a great idea on paper. both systems are abusable to the point where they can only be considered as failures.

as soon as a company shows major growth, the professional stock brokers are buying into it. from that point forth, the people who are making the important decisions arent even the ones who are developing products and KNOW how to make good products anymore. theyre people who have no connection or understanding to what the company does, but theyre pushing for toxic sales models and less product quality to increase profit margins to get a quick return on their investments. theyre promoting mostly marketing and sales people into management positions, since those are the people who can make a company grow as fast as possible without putting more efford into product quality. this rots out companies management levels over time, and the people in charge of every important decision and design direction are airheads who dont know how to develop good products anymore, but how to make the most money off shitty low quality/low efford products.

this is why every big game publisher expands into the mobile gaming market. huge consumer base with low expectations can be reached with microtransaction infested low quality games that are mass produced copies based on the same engines.

this game was CREATED by a bunch of modders who set out to make a good and enjoyable game. guinsoo, tryndamere, ryze. none of the original developers are working at riot anymore they all left or retired from their positions. it is now OWNED by people who probably dont even know the name of a single champion or what a moba is, bought into the company because they saw a lot of growth and potential to make a lot of money off their investment. this is all they care about. the problem is that at the end of the day, these are the same people in charge of decision making. if they want more microtransactions and gambling in the game, then riots developers have to implement them. developers arent part of the company decision making process anymore.

this already happened in 2010 when tencent bought up major shares of riot games. we players could immediately feel a change in management of the game. suddenly champion ip prices shot up. ip gains per game were drastically lowered, all with the intention to massively increase the grind for new champions to get people to buy more champions with rp. new champion releases also massively sped up to two new champions per month. most of them just better versions of already existing champions.

its the same what happened to EA and other big gaming studios/publishers. the entire industry became infested with people in management roles who dont know the first thing about game development or even the studios they have a share in.

this is why i like sticking to small indie studios (rip runic games aka blizzard north. you were loved and never got the appreciation you deserved). you tend to run into the risk that their games are never completed, but the people who make the driving decisions are gamers and developers who just want to make good games. the moment these small studios are bought up by large publishers, its best to move on and not further invest into their games.

and some of the indie games this year are absolutely amazing.

among my favourites are slay the spire, dead cells, cross code, wizard of legend, darkest dungeon (a bit older, but new expansions), and a couple smaller games. these are games that are entirely developed by people who know their shit.
