A potential fix for crit without having to nerf crit damage

Force crit users to itemize based on enemy builds, such as building things like Lord Dominik's regards, by reducing randuin's crit damage reduction, but giving more defensive items the ability to reduce crit damage, or even temporarily nullify it with a debuff, through stats and active effects.

For example, instead of Randuin's active being an AoE slow, it gets a longer cooldown, but applies a debuff that prevents effected champions from critically striking for 1.0-2.0 seconds, scaling with champion level, and doesn't do anything else. To prevent abuse, champions effected by the debuff, would be immune to it for the next 30 seconds.

Changes like this would enable more diversity for marksmen, tanks, and fighters all at once. Non-crit based marksmen would have significantly more breathing room in a good composition,

Making anti-crit itemization an option for for the tankier cast would make critical strike balanced. At the moment, Infinity Edge gives 50% more crit damage, while Randuin's only gives 20% crit reduction. If with flat math of crit % reduction, Randuin's does a fine job of countering crit damage.

This is where things like Press The Attack come into play. Every 1% damage amplification on press the attack for crit user, is directly 1% less crit damage reduction from Randuin's. With Press The Attack and Coup de Grace, Randuin's crit damage reduction is effectively 1% in the late game.

Against Cut Down and PTA, in the lategame, if you have 2K HP more than the marksmen, which is not exactly unusual for a tank, the amount of late game crit damage reduction from randuin's 20% crit damage reduction is -2%

Negative crit damage reduction.

It's no wonder why critical strike seems overpowered, because with the effects of the new runes, damage amplification for critical strikes can be higher than critical strike damage reduction. That's not factoring in an effect like Lord Dominik's Regards.

Precision tree + Lord Dominik's regards can be as much as a flat 42% damage amplification vs tanks after 3 attacks, and this would apply fully to crit damage.

And yet, Lord Dominik's regards is a rarely seen item. Why? Because critical damage is much too effective at melting tanks. With the upcoming advent of conquerer, which will make fighters far more powerful against tanks, Riot should look into offering more anti-critical damage capabilities.

Marksmen should need to build items like Mortal Reminder or Lord Dominik's Regards to be able to efficiently melt tanks. They don't. So therefore, there needs to be either more critical damage reduction capability available in tank items, or a tank item should be made with or given the ability to stop enemies from critting temporarily.

TLDR: Gimme more anti-crit options since more anti-tank options for melee champions are coming, and because crit users aren't needing to use the anti-tank options designed for them to use.

The problem with more anti crit items is that it completely dumpsters melee crit users like Yasuo, Gankplank, Tryndamere and Yi, who are much more balanced by having to get in melee range of enemy champions to do such high damage. I think nerfing critical strike damage for all ranged champions is really the only solution to the problem without across the board buffs to armor items, which would hurt non-ADCs more than ADCs.

This is where the upcoming Conquerer keystone comes into play. It gives you a hefty bonus of attack damage and converts 20% of your damage before resistances into true damage for a brief period of time after being in combat for 4 seconds, stacks like grasp of the undying so hitting minions counts, and damaging an enemy champion as a melee champion refreshes this effect.

Melee crit users are able to use the Conquerer keystone pretty well, as far as my experience with the rune on the PBE goes. Tryndamere, Yasuo, and Yi are all able to shred tanks with it. Gangplank not as well since he's not quite as sticky, but a 20% true damage conversion on his barrels is painful.

Though it does mean Gangplank wouldn't be running klepto if he runs Conquerer.

really? gankplank? someone who just puts down a barrel and does massive AoE damage from a safe distance that can crit multiple people at once is "more balanced" ok... hell maybe with items like these maybe they will finally do some work on Trynd and Yi who are nothing more than pubstomp champions. Yasuo is already in need of changes regardless of what you do with crit items.

The solution is making crit more easily to itemize against, giving crit champions some other form of counterplay will also allow Riot to give them power when it's needed and actually work on them without radically changing them and everyone screaming "favoritism!" any time they do anything but nerf these champions.
