Can we talk about Kassadin for a sec?

Kassadin is an interesting champ, to say the least. He has AP scaling like a mage, but he has mobility like an assassin. But when it comes to raw burst, Kassadin simply cannot compete with other assassins. Even before they gutted him, Kassadin was never able to outburst someone like Katarina, Fizz, Leblanc, Talon, etc. So what we end up with is a champ who needs to build like a glass cannon in order to kill anything, but he isn't rewarded for doing so. So a Kassadin player has two options. You can either build somewhat tanky and have less than optimal burst, or you can build glass cannon and still have less burst than other assassin champs.

I would also like to point out that unlike other assassins, Kassadin has clear weaknesses during all stages of the game. Even Akali, a champion who is supposedly "weak" pre-6 has access to stealth at level 1, so one could argue even she has an easier time surviving laning phase. He doesn't have access to his mobility until level 6, so you have plenty of time to retaliate after he bursts you. And again his burst isn't that great, so most mids can easily beat him. Even after he gets his ult, you have plenty of time to retaliate after he bursts you. Unlike champs like Zed or Leblanc, Kassadin cannot immediately return to his starting position after he jumps in on you. His ult is also fairly expensive to use, so if he doesn't have enough mana he's out of luck.

Like so many other champs before him, I believe Kassadin is a victim of "FOTM syndrome". For a time he was extremely popular. After a while people started complaining, and Riot proceeds to gut him. But I think Kassadin deserves a second chance. It's a new season, with new champions and new items added, so maybe Kassadin won't be as obnoxious as he was in the past. If he isn't buffed in some way, I don't see him being played much. He simply isn't strong enough to compete with other top tier mids.

The reason he is right now is because he had a 90% pick/ban a few seasons ago. He was great.

And then the rito hammer came and put a stop to it. he has one of those kits.

I think he is a great champion though. and he is pretty great in the right hands.

This simply is not true, Kassadin could delete someone pre rework faster than any mage or Assassin could since league was created.

https://youtu.be/83keAuqAeb0?t=11 < --- Here is a perfect example of pre rework Kassadin with his old base values and ratio's. Even Leblanc didn't stand a chance. And the best part is he ONLY had 177 AP.

Here are some of his old Base damages and Ratio's

Null Sphere 80-130-180-230-280 + 0.7 AP + 2 second Silence. Nether Blade 30-45-60-75-90 + 0.3 AP per auto attack. Force Pulse 80-130-180-230-280 + 0.7 AP + 50% slow for 3 SECONDS Riftwalk 80-100-120 + 0.8 AP + 50-55-60 + 0.1AP per stack. So at max stacks which was 10 back in the day he could do 720 + 1.8 AP damage on his ult. If he cause you in his base you were pretty much dead just from his R. Not to mention this ability would refund half of the mana cost if you hit a champion. making the cost only 500 at max stacks when attacking champs with it. Now yes right before rework some of these values were lower, like Null sphere which only did 200 base damage at max rank. But still 80 base damage wasn't going to stop Kassadin.

He had a 7 level advantage over the Leblanc. Yes he's obviously going to win that fight.

As a Kassadin Main there are a couple flaws with what you just stated, yes It's true that Kassadin can not compete toe to toe with say Katarina, Talon, Zed. But a good Kassadin will know how to fight them and how to win the matchup. I've seen so many Kass' in my time playing league that Q a Katarina before she ulti's. Contrary to popular belief nearly 60-70% of Kat's damage in fights will come from her ult if you let her get it off. But Kass has the biggest counters to anything in Katarina's kit. A channel interrupt on Q to stop her ult, a magic damage shield on Q to negate some of her damage, god-like mobility on R to either counter her ult by jumping out of it's small 650 range, or to beat her the good old fashion way by out roaming her. I truly believe that once Kassadin get's RoA, Boots, Lich-Bane and Void Staff, he can fight and beat any other Assassin in the game, Talon might be a tricky one though, he's always been the BIGGEST counter to Kassadin. I even vividly main Akali and I can say I haven't had as much success and luck with her in this season as I did last. Akali is a lot easier to deal with that a good Kassadin.

His mobility tbh isn't that great..... taxed with absurd amount of mana cost. How ever kass w active needs scaling on the passive part instead of a low damage that is flat. However kass w active is strength in itself due to the fact that it will proc spellblade ludens, static and rapid fire all at once . And yes I have done this and it's funny . The extra ap won't really add that much damage compared to the flat damage static and rapid fire offet

He was in Worlds a few times, with some success, if I recall correctly. His advantage over Kat/Talon/Fizz is that he is much more powerful in very long games. The problem (like with Tristana these days) is just getting to that very late game.

Along comes Leblanc Poof and you are dead. It's like magic.

He has one of those kits that are simply OP and toxic if even slightly buffed so he's been left for dead for some time now. Even with a high mana cost his R was simply too much mobility, which if you stop to look at specific OP champions you'll notice they are all sticky.
