So im really confused. In my ranked provisionals, I went 4-6 and got placed in Silver 5.
My friend went 5-5 and got placed in Bronze 5.
How is that possible? Is it MMR? Is it DUO queue?
How could he do better in his games and get Bronze 5?

If you were Bronze V and go 5-5, you stay in Bronze V. Fresh accounts are Bronze I/Silver V MMR.

I jumped from Gold IV to Gold II in my placement games after I went 8-2 and I had a ~57% Win Rate at the end of last season.

ABlueQuaker2 votesWell then that makes sense. When you first do placements you start at around Silver IV-II MMR and then your placements dictate where you end up. If your friend was Bronze V and went 5-5 then he's not going to move anywhere.
When I started playing Ranked in season 3 I started in Silver IV, dropped to Bronze II, climbed back to Silver V then climber to Silver III in the preseason. Just aim for 2 wins out of every 3 games and you'll be climbing up the ladder in no time.
