In all honesty I feel as if they over-valued his W, and the rest of his kit suffers for it. And WOW that's saying a lot with Shen's ult.

OH SHIT we can't have a tank that provides utility WE GOT TO HAVE HIM DO THE DAMAGES

but seriously though when riot goes to rework the vanguards, they're probably going to do that to all the tanks. We don't need them doing damage and especially not ones like shen. Shen is still 100% viable as long as you don't try so hard to stomp your lane. His strength is in his utility not his 1v1 dueling. The only way they should buff shens damage is if they nerf his shield and his taunt and I think he's better off having a really good shield and taunt then some extra damage

The problem with tanks not doing damage is that if they blow their cc they contribute nothing to a team fight. Shen misses his taunt, which is terrible on its own, you just flat out ignore he exists. No damage, No utility, his shield is weak compared to all the other champs that provide shields with increased utility and/or damage. He does nothing that another champ can't do better.

For one, I think the ability to give a 500+ point shield, more than most supports, to a teammate ANYWHERE ON THE MAP is pretty significant in itself. That's not including that he also teleports to their location where he turns a fight into a 2v1 sometimes. He's also the only champion to have a taunt with the ability to not tank damage after taunting and if he plays right, can directly fuck and adc or aa based champion.

You are greatly underestimating shens damage. Are you saying that you built full tank and don't do damage? GOOD that's how it should be. But the shens I've seen build titanic hydra and do a decent amount of damage. Sure it's not one shot instant burst like garen or darius and he has to actually build an item that gives him damage rather than having it handed to him, but it's also capable of providing something for his team in fights besides his other utility. Ignoring a shen that's attacking your adc is asking to be killed which is why most people don't ignore him. They'll hit him with a little cc or whatever, like most tanks, so they can get to the carries.

I seriously doubt that when you're playing shen you can just walk through the entire enemy team and start auto attacking their adc after you miss your taunt.

Shen is still a great duelist anyway. Titanic Hydra + Sunfire Cape gives him great dueling power VS most top lane AD champions, Fiora notwithstanding due to her true damage vitals.
