Ascension: a great way to build your mechanics

Hey guys,

So "your mechanics" is basically how well you can play your champ and how good you can fight with them without needing to rely on the items you buy or the runes you take with you in champ select.

What ascension does is it throws you into a map where you have to keep fighting people without having to lane. It's just like old dominion (which is a game-mode that riot used to allow us to play without a rotation): it has the same layout, requires you to take and defend points, and even gives you a steady income of gold so you don't fall behind.

The best part about this game-mode is that you are basically handed gold as time moves on and all you have to do is just fight other champions. The fact that you don't have to lane in itself is great, it means you are practically guaranteed the build you want to take (or close to it). And because you already get gold, all you have to focus on is playing the champ you want to play, getting better, and building on your combos and "team-fight" awareness.

Anyway: take advantage of this game mode while it's still up if you want to try a new champ. Use the game-mode to get better at a champ without having to sit through a 20-min norms game that was lost at 8-10 min (because you didn't know what you were doing xD, it happens to the best of us)

So, go make this popular so it stays in rotation a bit longer and we can have fun playing it :D

It's a great tool to have. You can go into Ascension (or Dominion before it) with the intent of trying out a particular champion or a particular build and you could be reasonably assured that you would reach at least four completed items before all was said and done. You could see how well that build works against other champs on completely even footing.

With Rift, you really aren't assured that. You might have to fill in a different lane position. The game might be a stomp and you'll never get to test the build against foes on even footing. There are far fewer team fights and skirmishes, so you get less time to test it out even if things ARE on an even footing.

Simply put, the Crystal Scar maps give you the opportunity to play exactly what you want in nearly ideal testing circumstances. The only thing it doesn't replicate is the lane phase, but that's what bottom lane in Dominion was good for.

I use Ascension to build ap/ad/crit Zilean lol. Just enough hp on ult to full restore and kill an adc. xD

I will admit I have learned the hard way what works and what doesn't with these new runes on Ascension.

Eh, I kinda disagree, but mostly because it's still ascension, a completely different game mode.

While it's definitely true that you can make late game scaling champs work, due to the fixed gold and level paradigm, the fact that it doesn't measure a late game champs ability to actually get to said point, doesn't tell you how usefull that champion actually would be on SR. (Though granted you're only talking about skill)

The other aspect is that teamfights in Ascension most likely don't play out the same way as they would in SR. For starters, their are no wards in Ascension, so teamfights become a lot more sparatic than they would in SR. Also, because of the relics. I personally will disengage from an extended teamfight over a relic, simply because their will be other relics that are much easier to acquire.

Lastly, there's Wormargs. Which is pretty much able to trivialize the fact that you can't heal by backing. (And if you have Wormargs while ascended, that's an extra F U to the enemy team.) This is to say that the game mode also affects your build path. That the best build on Ascension is probably not the best build in SR.
