Why is Tryndamere not higher up for a rework?

With the Galio rework somewhat being teased with the PBE icon, it got me thinking about the future reworks that'll be coming with Pantheon, Irelia, Urgot, Eve, and the Morg-Kayle duo rework. But looking back at a post and my response to it, it's brought up an important question: why is Tryndamere not on the list for a rework, and if he is why isn't he higher up?

Don't get me wrong, the other champs I mentioned do need reworks but Tryndamere I feel should be up their with them since he's in a pretty crap state for who knows how long now. Let's briefly look over his kit: his passive grants free crit, Q heals him and gives bonus AD per missing health (but who really cares about that or notices), W is very situation based for the slow and otherwise useless if you don't land it greatly (but does reduce AD of targets), E is his only damaging ability and also his annoying dash away to safty/ free kill card, and ult makes you unkillable for # of seconds AND can be used during CC because if not you'd probably be the absolute worst champ in the game.

He can't really do anything in team fights so all he's left to do is just hang around in split-push city and just do that for the whole game. He's basically a non-stop split push bot with nothing really else to do. To best describe him, he's like that one annoying fly in your room that continually keeps bugging you. If you ignore him, it'll just get worse. But if you try to kill him, he just runs away from you around the whole place and you can't kill him. And when you do manage to kill him, somehow, he just pops up again and the cycle repeats!

On top of that how he plays just isn't satisfying. He's a barbarian king, wielding a giant ass sword, one-handed, reading to take on anyone threatening his people or challenge him. Yet gameplay wise, he plays cowardly with just attacking towers and running away when the first sign of danger shows up. At this point, I just view him as a one trick or just a pick to be an annoyance to the enemy team while the rest of your team gets shit done. I feel he is in desperate need of a rework. And I mean a rework, not some class update that he's chosen to be a candidate in.

He is extremely toxic and prob the most cancer champion when ahead in the game. he can tower dive soon as he hits lvl 6 on pretty much any squishy. if he gets shit on in lane then he just split pushes keeps knocking down your towers while unkillable. the only counter to his broken ass is exhaust but soon that wont remove his attack speed so he will just keep on right click your towers then spin off when one is nearly dead or his ult is about to expire.

Knowing he is really squishy, remove his ult and he'll be unplayable unless he is made into a tank and still he needs a passive change since he gets his peak damage when he is at low health and without his actual ult there is no point to play him anymore.

The only people who are going insane because of his ult are in low elo, because in higher elo he is easily counterable, i think actually he is the champion that has the most counters in game but people dont just realise this.

every match up isn't anymore about, i hope i dont get countered but more like, i hope there is still a champion that doesn't counter me that much ... lol

no more invincibility ? fine , but that will have to make huge changes

-More HP/tanky like

-no more passive depending on his health %

-solve the fact that makes him easily peeled (like his mocking shout wold give him 2 sec of mobility immune problems)

-more viable at 100% health, less rng dependant.

and only with this, removing his actual unlt would be acceptable.

any champion when ahead are a pain for the whole game, take nasus, he carries the game alone when fed and ignored, poppy, rammus, riven and a lot more. what u forget to mention are chamions that are toxic from level 1, like teemo, heimer, kennen harrassements are their speciality.

Trynda ? if he loses his lane, he pretty much useless the whole game because he wont have enough damage for an effective split push, minions get stronger by time it's easily noticable when ur behind everyone, a come back is extremely hard and needs the game to be able to get late for him to be viable again. split pushing? easily countrable, just dont go as 5 to 1 lane like tards and u'll be fine. Ninja Tabi + Thornmail -> you've already won your matchup against trynda.

just check his pick/ban rate and u'll notice that's abnormally low. why ? i dont think i need to reply to the obvious.

I have made a thread about it and Meddler replied, that according to him Trynda can use a full VGU in the future. Let's hope it will be sooner

There's a lot that need it, but I think Trynd is probably a good bet soon.

I bet he'll be in one of the next two cycles (the two after urgot/eve cycle).

WyattB571 votes

Unless they do morg qnd kayle after eve and urgit, the cycles seem to be getting closer together

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

Yeah. Of course, the speculation is pretty thick on our part. Not only because Riot is pretty tight-lipped about these projects, but also because the designers seem to have a lot of say. Even if Trynd (or Morg and Kayle) were at the top of the priority list, they would work on someone else if a designer had a great idea for them.

Riot has explained that other places before. I don't have the link saved on this computer, but if you reply to me and remind me, I'll post it for you later tonight or this weekend.

He's named after a rioter and founder of the game, they won't ever nerf or change his broken ass.

Fucking thank you. It's the pet champion of the league CEO! I bet there is this silent rule in Riot HQ concerning tryndameryl where no one dares to even suggest a rework lol Unless you don't mind getting fired or something... :P But salt aside, the most broken thing is the R. It lasts waaaay too long. Kayle also has something similar and it only lasts two seconds and its enough some times to make a difference. 5 seconds on tryndamere is just perfect to kill 2 champions and get out scott free. The second thing would be his spinning slash: When you crit it reduces the CD, that shouldn't happen. Taking away the CD reduction when you crit will force you to actually think about using it, and if you miss it you get punished. But... then again... If i'm the CEO of a gaming companny and i have a champion named after me, that shit better be a God.

He is on the list, I'm pretty sure he's actually really high on the list. But the reason champions go from "need a rework" to "being reworked" is because the rework team gets some really good ideas and mechanics that appear to be bearing fruit for a proper rework direction. If they try to force a rework without good ideas about what they're going to do then the result is not going to be worth the effort.

This is also the reason Riot doesn't release certain champions. I remember about a year back Riot said they wouldn't want to make the Ruined King (yeah, the one from item 3153) a champion unless they had a good idea for him.

Agreed. If you'll forgive my quoting one of my own posts:

I actually think Tryndamere should be one of the highest-priority reworks (by Riot's own criteria) and am amazed that he's never even mentioned.

He basically has all of the problems that they rework champions for:

  • Gameplay does not match thematic (the barbarian hero who kills defenceless minions and runs away if anyone goes near him)
  • Binary matchups (either wrecks or is useless depending on champion picks)
  • Uninteractive gameplay (tends to just splitpush and run away)
  • Kit based on RNG (free crit chance)
  • Low skill expression (he does require positioning, but his actual kit has nothing complicated and he's fairly hard to punish for his mistakes due to high move speed, escapes, ultimate.)
  • Counterplay issues (see binary matchups, above. Either the enemy team has enough CC to keep him locked up and he is useless, or they have limited counterplay since they can't actually fight back due to reduced AD and him being immortal, and can't really run away due to his high movement speed and strong slow.)
  • Old, outdated model and very few voice lines

i agree with you

he is a statcheck champion clearly design around nothing but damage that is useless when building tank and is unable to present a split push treat, that being said his design problems are clear, i dont see why wouldnt he get a rework before morgana and kayle that are rather ok and playable

I say just change his ult then we're good

What PBE Icon because there is non-that looks like Galio at all

Forhonor3211 votes

You know the Demacia Icon?

Ralanr1 votes

I'm just assuming that they don't really have any ideas for how to tackle that project and just keep it on the shelf until they do.

Kyunsei1 votes

But what should be his new identity ? If they remove ult or crit, he'll become some sort of uninteresting bruiser,

he's very unique in his playstyle, build and abilities.

All his power budget goes into sick melee damage coupled with invulnerability and high mobility, the three together makes him a great split pusher, people split push with Tryndamere cause it's the best way to use his kit.

Meep Man1 votes

I think he could be salvaged temporarily in a class update, unlike Urgot, Evelynn, and all the others.

Ryanhks1 votes

Down here in bronze I have a 61% win rate with 50 games as trynd. What would you propose for his rework?

Head Connoisseur1 votes

A big thing riot considers when looking at full vgu candidates is how well their kit functions together, and how well it works with the champion's lore.

Galio's kit is a weird mix of tank and mage, with no truly defining playstyle other than "press r".

Urgot is just an amalgamation of a ton of interesting individual abilities, none of which really make sense together (except the q target from landing e).

While tryndamere has a fairly toxic kit when ahead, his kit also makes sense based on his lore, and works decently well to create a cohesive character design compared to others on the list.

HollowMimic1 votes

Not to mention that his Legendary skin needs to be reworked as well

Oleandervine1 votes

Tryndamere has at least had fairly decently modern visual and kit work, in like 2012 or something along those lines. Yeah, he's shit now because of how binary his kit is, but it doesn't compare to the ugliness of champs like Mordekaiser, Pantheon, Nunu, Kayle, Morgana, or how completely bizarre and antiquated most of their kits are. Tryndamere at least has a functional flow to his kit, and he can be fixed with a minor GPU like what was done in class update. His visuals are pretty acceptable, whereas the other leading reworks are not.

Dr Yasuuo1 votes

For me, he needs only Visual Update and E cooldown buff so he can be useful in the higher ELOs. I dont see nothing broken in him. If you are a very good tryndamere player you can win EVERY lane (even the Quinn one lmao). But if you f*ck up you gonna be a splitpush machine. For teamfight, ye, he is a little bit useless there, but you can just E in the backline before u get CC'd and 2 shot adc and get out alive with your ult.. i play him very often and play vs him often.. nothing broken

ExcusemeFellows1 votes

Uhm, because you have two threads with the same posts??

crazyweapon1 votes

Personally I don't think he needs a full rework. I think his personality matches his kit you are a barbarian that if let to farm becomes unstoppable and 2 hits anyone that isn't a tank. Imo he has too much sustain with his q, that could be adjusted and his passive is a little too much 35% crit for free, but we have yasuo that can just get 50%crit and his passive makes it 100 so if trynd's passive gets nerfed yasuo's should too

LadyRenly1 votes

i dont feel like hes really high priority, other champs need more immediate attention

Throz1 votes

Fuck off. Leave the champions alone. Reworks has been the worst thing to ever happen to league.
