Yet another Taliyah worked ground rant

Who is Taliyah··93 votes·4,758 views

Riot we have asked for this a couple months ago and we haven't gotten an answer to it yet. We need that indicator on Taliyah's worked ground that shows us it is disappearing soon. This is important!

I've gotta be honest, I forgot about it for a while too, but after playing Xayah, I noticed that her Feathers slowly lose color and start disappearing. This way Xayah can lay down the max. number of feathers before pressing E if she pays attention to the first feather.

And yet, Taliyah doesn't get to know when her worked ground ends. The only way would be to look at your Q skill how long the worked ground will be active and then watch the time when it will disappear and keep it in mind.

I'm starting to get angry at this. It happens often enough that I use my Q to shoot one rock and end up shooting five rocks because the worked ground disappeard in the same split second I used my Q. This is unacceptable. Anivia's wall slowly decays. Azir's soldier show signs of disappearing. Xayah's feathers like I stated above. Shaco boxes have a white bar and more.

Why do you keep ignoring that problem.

They could add a ring that slowly receeds around patches of worked ground. Think Yasuo's E cooldown rings.

Or even just a tiered color change like Talons Parkour would be nice.

Morgan le Fey4 votes

Please no color changes. Color blindness makes everything harder. >.>

Here's an idea, though. The circle-on-the-ground timer indicators are getting really good, with the best examples being the countdown to capturing a Skarner spire and the countdown for Redemption. Something like that, with a clear, slow "progress bar" scaling on time remaining - that'd be perfect.

There is color blind mode. Does that help at all?

Morgan le Fey1 votes

There's a handful of things it helps with, but not many. There's not only different types of colorblindness, but vast differences between individuals. If each color could specifically be picked alone, that might be viable, but even with something that requires that much work, we simply don't have as many colors available to differentiate between as everyone else does. I've only seen a couple of colorblind modes that are widely functional. League's is getting better - much better - but it's still not among the small handful of ones that work well for most people. Overall, in terms of accommodating us, it's just easier to set things up so they're measured more directly rather than using graduated color shifts. Shapes are pretty hard to mistake, bar a couple of really rare shape-distinguishment issues that would make it incredibly difficult to play League in the first place.

Thank you for explaining that. There ARE potential options, as I know there are a lot of custom skins you can download. Perhaps you can try to find some colorblind friendly skins that will allow you to better see the partical effects. Check some Kshaway videos, as he uses custom skins all the time.

Morgan le Fey1 votes

If those are actually allowed and won't somehow get me banned that'd be amazing. I'll definitely look into that. Thanks so much. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Sp33d Zer04 votes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GggFXVQmcL8 One example. And don't worry, the skins are ONLY viewable by you, as you actually change your computer's game files, so it isn't like you can use it to turn certain particles invisible to the enemy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqCXIjPJVlI you can even make them very different from the base model.

Morgan le Fey1 votes

Yeah, my concern would be that that cheat detector would see changes to my local game files and think I might be trying to cheat. I don't know how it works.

Sp33d Zer01 votes

AS Kshaway has a high number of videos like this, and other high notoriety streamers have as well, such as Keyori and Box Box, I would imagine it is fairly safe.

If you are concerned, you could try it on alt account for awhile, see if it gets flagged, and if not, you should be good to go.

The Real Mugatu1 votes

Really like this idea, think it would be clear and likely not too hard to implement or see.

hallfro9 votes

I agree! It's small improvements like this that need to happen often to keep League updated. However, it is a little weird that they didn't include this on her from the start, considering how important her Q ground is, and how new of a champion she is.

ShadowParker6 votes

As a Taliyah main I agree with this.

I would also like more visibility on her worked ground around Baron pit. It can be really hard to see with the colors presented there.

I will always want my old W back. ;~;

Who is Taliyah7 votes

Taliyah with old W was in her prime. Really sad they changed it back then, but She is still lots of fun :)

The Real Mugatu1 votes

I think the biggest problem is when they changed it, people complained a few times when she was first released then a few weeks later (when those who liked Taliyah had gotten very comfortable with it) they changed the cast paradigm and nerfed her damages.

Placentas1 votes

How did they change it? Apparently I played a ton of Taliyah the first few weeks (Mastery 3 apparently, lulwut?) but haven't touched her outside of a few arams since.

Who is Taliyah3 votes

Before patch 6.14, there was a lockout on W. Basically, when you casted W, you couldn't use another spell (not even flash) during the casting. This made it impossible to W > E so we had to use E > W to get the combo damage.

People complained that it feels too clunky and is too hard to use, but the players that got used to her during this time really enjoyed playing her.

When they changed it, most Taliyah mains back then stopped playing her or tried to get used to the new playstyle, but it was very hard because they spent over a month before getting used to the weird mechanic.

On top of that, riot took away much of Taliyah's E damage, because they were afraid the W > E combo would be op if they didn't.

Old Taliyah countered dashing enemies with her E. Yasou for example had to think about counterplaying her E before dashing through the entire wave and kill you in 3 hits. Now it barely deals any damage to dashing enemies, unless they have no mr at all.

*Edit The old W casting was different too. Now it is vector cast, before you had to press it to choose were you cast and press it against so it actually comes out. You could even just knock enemies UP, now you can ONLY knock them BACK or FORTH

Placentas1 votes

Aw that's pretty shitty.

I'm sorry they did that to your favorite champ =(

Old Taliyah sounds more fun and more impressive to play. Like I don't see having higher skill champions as an issue, yeah maybe less people play them, but those who do are masters and that's pretty cool.

Who is Taliyah2 votes

The saddest thing is that the creator of Taliyah tried everything he could to not change her W, but rito wanted it. She is still lots of fun. But it feels like 8 cherry cake pieces with 1 piece without the cherry.

Morgan le Fey1 votes

Basically, at first, her W 1) silenced her from cast until it went off and 2) was cast via a 1-2 method where you cast it initially, and could recast it again before it went off to direct which way people were thrown. The rule of thumb was that you didn't cast it unless you were pretty sure you could land her full combo, because you had to cast E-W before you saw if W would land. Now, it's cast via a single vector cast, and it no longer silences on cast, making it possible to cast W first and then only cast E if the W lands successfully. As a result, Riot was able to lower the damage, dramatically reducing her burst to boot. It was a pretty radical change to her foremost core combo, and it wasn't changed until after people had spent weeks mastering it in its original form.

Placentas1 votes

I kinda see why they did it, but I personally wouldn't agree. Seems really shitty to those who actually bothered to learn her since she seems (or at least was) to be a pretty high skill cap champ.

Morgan le Fey1 votes

Yeah, the huge problem was how long they waited. A lot of us put a fair deal of time and effort into mastering the old cast method, then it was turned on its head. Suddenly our hard-earned instincts actually made us worse than someone who'd never played her before, because they were totally wrong and we had to unlearn everything we learned. It was very frustrating.

LyingOnLine4 votes

I'd rather have the ability to see where her worked ground is as an enemy.

Who is Taliyah64 votes

Humm? Am I missing something there? I remember that you can clearly see where the worked ground is.

It's really hard to see, atleast for me. Maybe i have minor color blindness

Sp33d Zer02 votes

It is pretty difficult to see if she isn't using the freljord skin.

Not gonna lie, I completely forgot about this champion.

Wtf that champ2 votes

Talon have his timers (indicators) on walls, so why Taliyah can't have such on ground? ++

Envoy of Melody1 votes

It would become irritating when every worked up ground has a red outline attached to it.

Khadaver2 votes

You'd think that this happening is rare but it really isn't

Fairyfleur2 votes

Taliyah Even rocks can be unpredictable

AuraCreed2 votes

I see a Taliyah post, I upvote.

In addition to this could the circle that was on the old better W be put on this vector W? Seeing the range of the whole circle would be nice for new and old players to her alike.

Bisaknosp1 votes

ah you are that biatch that flamed and ragequit in one of my games xddddd

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

I kinda disagree, though I understand why people would want it.

For one, all your examples are very short, or are duration based traps. Taliyah's is different because it's meant to be a blind spot for her. If you want to go aggro, go ahead, but you'll use up your lane. If you want to go extreme aggro again, you'll need to be passive for the land to restore. Now the main argument for that is "Well I want to know when I can go aggro again", and to that I'll respond with "That's the point". You're not supposed to know, just like how Taliyah doesn't know the extent of her powers.

If we use that idea in a real game example, you'd have people who rotate their worked grounds in a way to get them refreshed mid combat to surprise an enemy. For someone who wouldn't get that infomation, that's not exactly fair, nor does it help with clarity. Not to mention, the amount of worked grounds you can have in a lane, those lines are gonna get messy.

For your in-game example, I've never had that problem personally. I normally keep to a single patch of land when using Single Q's, possibly two, so that may just be me.

Maybe the circle could be a red line that as the worked ground was there slowly turned black. With an effect similar to an Ivern camp. Maybe only be viewable for Taliyah. It isnt TOO obvious on the screen, but also easy to see when exactly it would expire.

Hige1 votes

in all honesty this is very easy to resolve since worked ground is but a particle that stays lit while active and dissappears instantaneously as it ends... lower opacity when there's 15 seconds left and when there's 5 seconds left make it barely visible.

This is a double edged sword though, the enemy will know it's about to end but considering they can't do much about it I don't think it's not that bad

procrastinasian1 votes

an inhibitor-esque indicator where a ring slowly decays around the circle would look really cool

Who is Taliyah1 votes

That's a good idea.

The Yetii Rider1 votes

As time passes the cracks in the ground should slowly move together to form a sketch of Yasuo's face. Right before the ground disappears it yells "Face the wind!"

She calls him sensei? Nooo i thought they were senpai and kohai my ship is RUINED now!

What about her W range indicator. That thing doesn't even show its AoE range.

Who is Taliyah1 votes

This is another problem.

I probably played her too much already so I don't even notice it anymore.

But I agree, that should be changed.
