@Riot balance team, can we reboot our talk about balancing Evelynn?

Lately I’ve been keeping a close look at how community (including me) shared their feedback about Evelynn and how Riot reacted both on boards and by making certain changes to her kit. I think that our talk about what is wrong (if there anything) with Evelynn started on the wrong foot and it lead to the situation we are now in, which I’d to call a vicious circle.

By that I mean that community keeps being vocal about something that they want to be changed in Evelynn’s kit. It gets Riot’s attention, but balance team seemingly thinks that what we ask for is too much and therefore they add something just for the sake of adding something. I strongly disagree with that way of doing things. And let me explain why.

Right now Evelynn’s playerbase mostly consists of 2 groups: first, people who stick to her (exclusively or not) and they have a general idea of how to play this champion. And then there is a casual group who wants to try Evelynn or go back to her after a long break and they seem to fall under the impression that she’s “unplayable”. This is a popular opinion on these boards it’s mostly tied up to the fact that new jungle is very tricky and they generally take her to the jungle where it is very easy to mess things up if you don’t plan your actions ahead.

Both of these 2 groups express their feelings that something needs to be changed about Evelynn. But while casual group usually goes all creative and proposes different kinds of reworks and rather big changes, her dedicated players use their experience to give feedback on how you can actually tweak her numbers. Obviously, when you (Riot) see so much people being vocal about Evelynn, you will feel like you should respond with something. But the problem is that while you are trying keep Evelynn toned down due to the unlimited potential of her stealth, most of the recent changes do not make any sense. None of the things you have done to Evelynn so far had served to the “casual” group who mostly can’t get into playing Evelynn just because it’s not obvious how to perform the first clear and play out the early game. On the other hand your changes, for example the rework of her W, hurt experienced players because you just added a second reset to a skill, but effectively slowed Evelynn for 16-80 MS in combat. I have a feeling that these kind of changes came just for the sake of making changes just as a response to community.

But this is wrong. Please, Riot balance team, if you feel like you don’t like the things that we propose, do not tweak random parts of Evelynn’s kit just so we see that you’re doing something. This feels like an endless circle – we demand buffs, you want to give us something, but not what we wanted and it’s resulting in ruining Evelynn as a champion.

In conclusion: We don’t want to lose things that defined her kit for the longest time like her stacking MS boost in combat just for the sake of seeing that you care for what we say. If you feel like there is nothing you can buff in Evelynn’s kit, just don’t do anything. All you have to do it explain it to us. There's no need to rehash random parts of her kit just "to spice" things up without actually making her stronger. This does not help neither casual Evelynn players, nor her mains.

Part of the frustration comes from this exchange:

When evelynn is considered for buffs: "We can't be risky with buffs because of her ability to be oppressive and her identity."

when evelynn is considered for nerfs: "Well this didn't really fit her identity and we really want to keep her from being oppressive."

meanwhile evelynn hasn't been oppressive since the ANCIENT TIMES when 100% of the playerbase was noobs because the game was BRAND NEW...

Evelynn only has an "identity" when it prevents her from being cool.
