Sona always seemed like she was in a good spot, but just kept getting nerfed out of nowhere

Even with hardly anyone complaining about her, maybe she was too popular at some points but I have never really seen QQ about it, specially to the same caliber as Thresh/Blitz/Vayne/Riven ect...

We just kept getting bogus excuses as to why she needed nerfing (she's oppressive, she is elbowing out other options...when Thresh existed, INVISIBLE POWEEEEEEER) what coined her to be Irelia 2.0

Once this champion was good with no glaring strengths about her that made her a chore to play against beside her being a easy champion to play Poke supports are pretty much out of favor now, but have been for over 2 years (A FUCKING LONG ASS TIME) she used to be the goto all-rounder safepick, now she has got to be one of the most riskiest supports in the game and the reward for that risk is litterally nothing...

Sona changes when?

Well, earlier, perhaps in pre-season 5, late season 4 -- I never really enjoyed being chunked out of lane as an ADC early game out of range of a Sona who expends very little mana to do so.

And then when she chunked me out of fights before they start mid and late game.

I did see this complaint a lot, but every fucking time it was exadurated, I believe a level 1 pre rework Sona could do something like 140 damage max with a powerchord charged Q, but everyone complained that she was doing over half their health, after the 500 powerchord nerfs I don't think anyone gives a fuck about that now 550 range harassment is easy to trade with too...

Also I never really enjoyed being effortlessly zoned out of lane by a Leona/Thresh/Blitz who sits in a bush all day and shits on me whenever i get 700 units in range of them

Swing the meaning of every champion and what they do best, can make anyone sound OP

Omg Sona Op better nerf her or Vayne yeah lets nerf vayne...... OH wait nvm lets nerf Evelynn .

The difference between Sona and the champions you mentioned is that Sona's trading ability isn't easily mitigated by standing behind your minions and not piss-poor laning.

Sona wasn't quite doing half health trades, but the combination of a Q -> Empowered AA with/without a sheen proc would be near constant with very low mana costs. Accompanied by her bringing 2-3 mana potions to the lane, it made for a truly miserable experience.

Trading back with Sona was really unsafe due to her relatively long range as she too had an ADC. That being said, she's a high damage, low utility support early. But that utility isn't always necessary when you can't get near her. It's just something you need to coordinate with your jungler if they push. There's a counter to everything.

Hitting Sona is a counter to Sona the more you wound her, the more she has to heal with her crazy costing tiny heal, she has 2 choices recall and fall behind a little or stay and be useless Is every champion who has a 550 range targetable skill with spammablility crazy op?

There is a problem with a champion being THE all around safe pick. If you can pick a single champion because they can do well versus anything there is a problem with that. She got nerfed down because she did everything as good as people who specialized.

What is why Thresh has maintained a 40% pickrate for over 2 years...

WarlockLaw1 votes

A good portion of the time he has had sub 50% win rates. Also he has had nothing but nerfs since release

RedCyclone2 votes

and? His winrate is low because everyone spam picks him at every elo

IcyPepper1 votes

If he's not so great, then why is he the #1 picked?

He's not even that fun, imo >.>

WarlockLaw2 votes

I'm pretty sure that Sona maintained an above 50% winrate when she was the catch all safe pick. Now that Thresh has become said pick he isn't holding that high of a winrate. For what it's worth Sona has a higher winrate in Plat + then Thresh right now

Edit: more specifically with 125+ games played they are the same

RedCyclone1 votes

Thresh is naturally harder to play then Sona This is a known fact, probably why Sona has a higher winrate

WarlockLaw1 votes

The edit compares mains on both, they are the same eight now as far as mains are concerned

Thresh isn't nerfed because he has counterplay, he could use some nerfs but what stops Riot from nerfing him is that he has counterplay.

RedCyclone1 votes

And Sona, the support with no hard CC on her non ult kit as well as being made of glass, certainly has no counterplay

Everything in her kit is targeted and requires 0 effort to use, if you really believe sona has counterplay im glad riot doesnt listen to the boards

actually to anyone that isn't bronze 5 all you have to do is flash cc her then she is a free kill or is too low hp to poke safely anymore I literally was running 0-0-0 masteries that game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXyGSJijOYs

you do realize if you flash cc her and go flash for flash sona can no longer safely poke without flash because she instantly dies right? learn to play please

sona died from a 1 second root meaning blitz/thresh/morg/any support with a decent stun/root early game can easily kill sona at level 1-3 if they run ignite

there are so many lame tricks like adc/support hiding in their bush and pretending you dc'd til sona walks in bush then you don't even need to flash for it

if sona goes 3 potions she will not have the mana to poke if sona goes 2-3 mana potions she has to spend 400 mana to heal for 150hp of damage

right clicking on sona = sonas counter at level 1 she is less tanky than the melee minions in lane

People bitched to hell and back about Sona's poke (which SHOULD be good for a POKE champ) but never stopped to think 'hey, maybe I should try to retaliate against one of the most fragile champs in the game because she needs to get into AA range to do most of her damage'

Unless youre a melee champ. Which is blatantly obvious that you either stay out of range or try to make a play out of it.

RedCyclone1 votes

Also not unlike every melee support champion has a way to gate that 550 unit gap
