jungle garen looks actually really good. his spin deals slightly less damage early but has 4 seconds shorter cooldown. so overall, clear improved.
the villain system gives him a "who do i gank next?" kindof feel. and if its on the enemy jungler, its a good time for an invade and to shut him down.
dead mans plate is actually amazing for a jungler. it really helps him get across the map where hes needed.
plate can also help add that extra bit of ganking power at 100 stacks
plate can also help add that extra bit of ganking power at 100 stacks
im gonna love playing with this thing. i mean this makes roams from top lane much more feasable, as you switch quicker between lanes.
those hecarim ganks are gonna be painful though. i never understood why they didnt build the thing in my brawlers games.
Charge in with dead mans plate, and q.
Now THATS demacian justice.

demacianSHADOW ISLES justice.
Bilgewater Justice.
WHICH ONE IS IT
I loved it on braum and blitzcrank for support. Make's the roams that much better lol. For the jungle my personal favourite is building it on
;D
It's absolute murder on Vi, too.
Nah.
I'd rather keep the x10 damage proc in 4 seconds :3
I suspect the reduction in tankiness and increase in damage output will stay.
But I'm k with that too.

It only just occurred to me that if his no crit E went live, you'd have to change your name.
I actually don't like the crit re-introduction honestly. They had to nerf E's ratio to do it, and before this, it was sitting at a pretty 440% AD at level 18. Damage potential goes up if you build crit, but honestly Garen's best build is probably just going to be Sunfire/Dead Man's Plate with BC and Titanic Hydra if he wants more damage, so this just feels like a nerf to E for me.

They didn't nerf E's ratio to do it - they nerfed E's ratio because he was too strong late. The guy in charge of the rework said they aren't expecting crit to actually be a strong build on him, so they reintroduced it because some Garen players find it fun and it'll have very little impact on his strength.
There was no power removed from his kit in order to give him back crit, he would have had the AD ratio nerf regardless.

ghostblade is one of his most versatile items. the synergy with his kit is really strong. they reduced the scaling, not even the base damage by 10%. ghostblades crit alone should increase this damage by 15% on average and bring it back up to the previous value.
but if you also build i.e. on him the damage is gonna be gigantic. his spin already deals vastly more damage than on live. like between 2 and 3 times the value.
This all depends. Garen's E does not crit for double damage. It crits for 50% boosted damage, meaning its crit multiplier is not 200%, it's 150%, so 15% crit is closer to 7.5% average DPS.

its a 10% damage nerf on the scaling.
and critical strikes cause the scaling part of the spin to crit for 200% damage. meaning 15% crit increase the damage of the scaling part on average by 15%.
the base damage of the spin wasnt touched.

Where does it say this?
i put a link into one of my posts here. its in the op of the garen thread on the pbe boards. you have to scroll down to todays update.
No, Garen's E does not crit for 100% boosted damage. It does not have a 200% crit multiplier. As of this moment on Live, it has a 150% crit multipier. If you crit with his E, it does 50% more damage and even STATES this. Garen on the PBE does not specify if it's for normal crit multiplier or if it's the same 50%, it simply says that it can crit for bonus damage. I'd guess they're keeping it at 150%, not putting it up at 200%.
For some one who's named 'Critmaster Garen', you sure don't know much about how his E crits. 0.o

ah, crap i messed up. yes, you need an i.e. for the 100% damage boost.
its the ad scaling portion of the ability that can critically strike. however, according to the rioter working on him, the ad ratio is much higher than the live values. (also from the looks of the pbe games).
this means the stat does become better on him with the rework, if the formula stays the same. maybe theyre gonna use an entirely different formula, dont know.
even if just the ad ratio crits, a crit with an i.e. almost gives the spin an extra damage tick in value as the base damage is much lower than what your ad contributes.
I'm still not going to buy crit on Garen. No room in a build for it.
depends on what you want to build for. infinity edge is still one of his strongest items for raw damage.
i almost cant live without ghostblade anymore, since it allows me to work around a lot of his weak points. extra mobility on the active, and the problem that he cant do much when his spin is on cooldown.
in extrended fights, after i burned my spin i usually like to pop the ghostblade active to keep going with powerful auto attacks, until the spin is back up.
garen actually will have a lot of build diversity with the new update. there are a ton of items and build pathes to chose from. more than before.

it was sitting at a pretty 440% AD
Doesn't this remind us of something spin2win? :^)
please don't scare us like this again rito.
if you do please provide adequate context.
mh, i´d rather have it function like the ashe changes...15%crit->15%more dmg overall

well since the spin applies a lot of smaller damage ticks that can individually crit, thats actually how it works. the only problem with crit was ever in combination with his q. a crit or no crit made a gigantic difference but was unreliable.

And honestly? I couldn't be more happy about it.
there were some mechanics that were definitely improvements, but overall some of the stuff they added and removed to balance these improvements out, just made the improvements less good or fun than the drawbacks, and the whole thing sucked. (oh god, the self slow).
as it looks right now, the changes are definitely shaping up a lot better.
who cares about crits if you cant even hit anything to begin with.
who cares about crits if you cant even hit anything to begin with.
well, they removed the slow on the spin. basically the most painful part of the changes.
like im watching a garen with warriors, dead mans plate, cleaver, last whisper, and for some reason bloodthirster. but his spin deals a total of 2700 damage.
even losing 1 second on the silence isnt that bad, if you deal the same damage in 1.5 seconds that you deal with live garen over 3 seconds.
Wouldn't Garen just get blown to pieces in a team fight with that build?
Wouldn't Garen just get blown to pieces in a team fight with that build?
what, those 6 i.e.s? yea he probably would.
however a cleaver, ghostblade, i.e. a maw and a defensive item like dead mans plate are definitely possible. the beauty of his new (old) w passive is that he gains more resitances with a more damage oriented build like he would get now.
Where does it say this?
Why isn't anyone mentioning the Q ms nerf? That will kill him, the only form of mobility he has and they nerf the duration.
Why isn't anyone mentioning the Q ms nerf? That will kill him, the only form of mobility he has and they nerf the duration.
hes losing half a second. its not terrible.
Q - Decisive Strike Movement Speed Duration changed 1.5/2.25/3/3.75/4.5 >>> 2/2.5/3/3.5/4
He also jumps ahead 50 units once he's closed the gap, so all around it's looking good.
ty atmas impaler
Considering your name, I suppose you're the person in the picture? :^)
Good, now let him Crit in an AoE when auto attacking.
Just kidding, but that would be seriously awesome.
GAREN LIVES ON!!!!
I'm so happy it's back. If you want to dump 4k gold on pure damage there is nothing more satisfying than an IE.
I'm still not going to buy crit on Garen. No room in a build for it.
A glorious day for Demacia!
Now if only we could get his Q nuke back.

Now if only we could get his Q nuke back.
actually ive watched the replay of marinerevenges stream. and his q was still able to crit a couple of days ago before they readded it to the spin. if they havent changed that in the meantime, both spells should crit.
otherwise, dead mans plate can add some neat burst to the q.
