Is Pantheon Good?

WinBoat··3 votes·2,334 views

Looking at the 4800 IP champions. I might pick one up, this would be my 12 mastered level 5 champion once I get to leveling them.

Anyhow, is Pantheon good? I have seen games where he went over 13+ kills (then again almost any champion can do that) but can he do it consistently?

Does he destroy people top? I been killing Pantheon's pretty easy for awhile now, but thought about getting him.

Options are Pantheon, Vayne, Yorick

Pantheon is more or less the strongest lane bully in top lane at the moment if played right, with only a few bad match ups in lane (like Shen or Malphite, and even then that's only because you can't effectively snowball off of them).

His poke and all-in leaves very little to no room for any counterplay, and he snowballs super hard. Due to his semi-global ult, you want to generally take Ignite on him instead of TP, to get the snowball rolling early on. This is because he doesn't have much of a dueling power spike at level 6 compared to, say, Darius, Garen, Riven, or Fiora, so you want to ideally either kill your opponent before six, or at least force some recalls so you can get a fat CS lead.

Pantheon's early game dominance is also reflected in him being one of the best turret divers in the game, able to absorb two turret shots if he dives smartly.

Be warned though, if you don't get the snowball rolling early on with Pantheon or don't close out the game through roaming like an absolute badass to snowball other lanes, you will feel pretty useless as the game goes on. Pantheon's build path means that he can still burst the enemy ADC or whatever down 1v1 and is a pretty good duelist, but he's a mediocre splitpusher and in team fights either often gets blown up if he tries to dive or is a stun bot.

And falling behind on Pantheon feels awful. You often have to build tanky (and thus do little damage), and are literally nothing but a stun bot in team fights. All you can do is hope someone else on your team can carry.

I'm not a Pantheon main, but I have played him. He's pretty high risk, high reward because of his squishiness and reliance on snowballing, but if you get ahead with him he's very strong.

Honestly I've been wondering if there is any point for his early game dominance anymore. If they ever reworked him I hope they'd make him scale better.

Pantheon is 3150 isn't he?

WinBoat1 votes

Yeah my bad lol, have you played him? What's he like?

I main him top normals. It's like Nemebro says. If you want early game dominance in top he's great. He's also really bad late game no matter what.

He's basically the logical extreme of early game power. That's his biggest fault. You can do well if fed mid game, but late game you should have done tanky items to be somewhat survivable.

Pantheon probably best top lane early champ in the game he can get fed easily and is pretty easy to play. No matter how fed you are though his damage falls off BAD late game. It's not that he doesn't do damage late game it's just that he is by no means a Late game champ unless you build him full tank.

I play him as a supportive jungler, and he is amazing in that role. Warrior enchant then 1 early damage item for great ganking and then buy sightstone transitioning into a full tank build late with auras to go around. in the super late game i sell warrior for another defensive item as he falls off hard in the late game.

Ralanr1 votes

Huh. Which damage item? I'm only asking cause I might do what you're doing. I end up warding so much anyway that I might as well have better wards.

It depends on the game. BotRK is good against tank comps, either hydra option is good for waveclear if your team is lacking, If someone on the enemy team starts getting ahead early instead of building one pure offensive item i get two bruiser items in something like black cleaver, maw, or steriks which each give good blends of offensive and defensive stats for the situation.

I usually end up building Maw second when fighting AP heavy teams. Aren't on hit effect items not very good with Pantheon since most of his damage comes from spells? If that's not really the case, would you recommend item 3172 on Pantheon?

On hit effects are fine, You certainly can do a lot of damage through his AA (especially early on) although an entire build around it wouldn't make much sense. You just have to break the weq combo habit and just w + AA until they start to run away and then q them. Its a different playstyle for sure and the BotRK in particular keeps his damage going longer than he would otherwise with its %HP damage. You do sacrifice the usefulness of your e though and that means its probably not optimal, but situational.

Zephyr, probably not. imo he works better with DMP + mobi boots for initiation. If you wanted to try a full AD pantheon then maybe but i think that would be hard to pull off successfully.

Can top lane or jungle effectively. Mechanically simple. Strong early game. Falls off incredibly hard.

Is one of the oldest champions that has had the least updating, might even be the oldest style champion in the game with Taric being a distant second.

Annie is older I believe.

Annie is older I believe.

Annie has been updated multiple times. Her spells are very different from what they used to be (Ex: Tibbers interaction with shield, shield itself (Duration/Damage), autoattack range nerf, stun scaling nerf/buff, etc.).

Pantheon has had some numbers shifted slightly, but his only significant change was making his ultimate not global.

Ralanr2 votes

Ahh. My apologies I misunderstood what you meant.

Annie is indeed older (original 40) though I think she's seen more changes than Panth has.

Pantheon is a great top laner to snowball with and get your other lanes fed. Lane till you hit 6, base, ult a lane and get a kill, base, and TP back your your tower with only missing a wave, maybe not even that. Also a really good jungler.

Panth is great early and mid game. He hard counters many tops right now and can snowball pretty well. The problem is that he is pretty weak late game.

Yorck is supposed to get a major rework soon, but that has been said for two years so far....

Vayne is going to be even stronger next season than she was this one.

Chaotic Sage1 votes

Agree with Panth entirely. Soon I think means around middle of next year sometime. Should probably see how the marksman rework actually plays out on live before making a judgement on Vayne me thinks.

one of the most, if not the most oppressive top laner right now.
