Riot's Gameplay "Trigger" Terms

I feel like Riot is afraid of certain gameplay terms when adding or reworking characters. Specifically:

  1. Micromanagement (see Meepo, The Lost Vikings, True Minionmancers)
  2. Global Effects (other than damage and CC)
  3. False Information (see Dota's Illusions and other similar gameplay mechanics)
  4. Gold Manipulation

Many other MOBAs are experimenting with such mechanics, but I feel like Riot has been afraid of putting such mechanics in their game. Is there particular reasons why these aren't added yet?

  1. Riot doesn't want to make things too complex. They've stated this as their reasoning before, and its going to hold them back from a lot of things.

  2. They actually won't even add global damage anymore, I'm pretty sure. They're too afraid of global effects in general now, outside of movement.

  3. Riot is obsessed with clarity at this point. Notice how they still haven't tried to make a healthy stealth champion, despite having the ability now. Its because there's no clarity among illusions/stealth.

  4. Riot can't enable gold manipulation (as far as transfers, like in other MOBAs) because ranged champions are so much stronger than melee late game (safety, kiting, damage, etc) that people would just pick CC/buff bots who can farm safely to dump all of their gold on the 2 main carries. If you meant something else, you'll have to explain a bit more.

  1. I wonder what they are going to try and tell people who want something complex.

  2. Yeah, global just doesn't seem to be something they like anymore and it's disappointing.

  3. I feel like Riot wants a different kind of clarity than what you speak. They want you to know what just happened once it has completely happened. There is definitely clarity in illusions and stealth, it's just after it has already happened.

  4. I mean ways to boost gold income or use gold as a resource. They are typically really afraid of gold income on anyone other than Supports (see Heart of Gold and Philosopher's Stone).

As far as gold income...

Because ranged and safety mechanics/fall-backs in League are honestly too strong/viable. Champions don't have any downside to being safe/mobile/CC-loaded.

Look at competitive play. They play so safe that its a snooze-fest. You add gold income back to other lanes, same thing, just more items. It encourages even more passive play. They are the items I somewhat agree with removing.

Honestly though, gold income items might not be a bad idea with how fast games are now. Might give late-game champs a chance to be viable again with Riot's directions...everyone knows champions select is far too stale for the gameplay to ever end up interesting now.

Gangplank kept his gold income passive, and now GP mains are hoping Riot will finally get rid of it...

  • global mobility does exist. Shen global heals exist. Soraka
and just like global damage its a bitch to balance because in effect it can make every fight with a lane opponent a 1v2. and makes equal skirmishes and fights automatic losses for the team that doesnt have a global ult. this deters people from taking risks and fighting their opponent unless they have a massive advantage. global damage like karthus ult is easier to balance because damage can be dodged and mitigated. but you cant prevent shen from suddenly shielding your enemy, or soraka from healing him.

  • riot actually experimented with the tricksters glass effect for leblanc for the upcoming assassin rework. only, that leblanc actually swapped appearances with an ally. for some reason it didnt work out well. i think the ability wasnt good on high level paly or something. not sure if its entirely off the table or if theyre still experimenting with it.
