The Horrible Truth About Ranked

Mannny··12 votes·1,692 views

I have created multiple posts about the ranked system but I just recently found out this horrible thing about ranked that Riot can't get rid of no matter how hard they try.

Your teammates have brains.

No matter who Riot tries to match you up with, who you end up playing against, your teammates have brains. They have feelings, and they are not robots. If any of the 9 teammates you play with feel sad or have something going on that screws their performance, that automatically screws that game and gives a slight advantage to a team. Nobody is feeling 100% and playing 100% all the time. People have feelings and this is what makes Ranked so hard to climb and so hard to keep a win streak and stop a lose streak. Riot can only do so much before human psychology steps in.

What are you guys thoughts???

it is worse than what is described above. You can have a great team get all the objectives, then over extend lose one fight and the other team that has no objectives or turrets can march right up mid lane and end the game. I am not sure when it tipped over, but the game play is a joke. You can be down so badly, but it if is late enough in the game where the death timers are 40 seconds or so, that is all the time you need to take the game. 30 minutes or so down the toilet for one team loss.

I think that this just goes to show that when you have an advantage you need to press it. You can't just rest on your laurels and wait for the game to be handed to you when you are up. That allows the other team back in and after 40 minutes or so, they should have every right to end the game your team wouldn't.

Its the other side of the snowball coin

bloated damage and increasing death timers as well as weaker objectives all to make it soooo much more easy to snowball out of control

however if you dont close out and lose a fight past 25 minutes you probably just lost the game

it does make for shitty gameplay either way

often times minor mistakes even if they are plenty dont matter in the face of the snowball onslaught however a big mistake later makes you autolose because of the same lame mechanics which let you snowball so stupidly hard

In past seasons this wasn't an issue

lose 2 kills or a tower before 5 minutes no big deal you can claw your way back by setting up your own plays and taking objectives though harder due to the enemy being ahead it wasn't that hard to do if you had good strategy and skill you clawed your way back and then you gain the upper hand by making more plays and using strategy to take extra objectives over your opponent. They try to stall to limit your gold advantage which eventually doesn't matter. this led to boring game play as the behind team would usually try to stall 20 minutes. riot tried to get rid of it, but they did it the wrong way though if you lost a fight late game it wasn't auto lose they would get baron or maybe an inhib. These were kinda big advantages but not the end of the game, usually a team would need a few such wins and with each win it made the next one easier or harder to defend against due to pressure Only the best teams were capable of closing out the game after a late game team fight win. they would grab baron and use that to end the game. Nowadays anyone can close out the game, and if you are the adc you can singlehandedly end it if you win a late game team fight.

Honestly drake change and first blood tower was all the game needed. as one gave more agency to early game comps and drakes allowed you to gain stat advantages which could not be nullified by stalling the game. herald could use some of the same treatment and everything would have been fine. Instead, in addition to those things Riot did a lot more They also bloated damage heavily making snowballing champs oneshot everyone including objectives They made death timers scale harder to give snowballing team more time to take advantage of kills during mid to lategame They made objectives a lot weaker trough several ways, more ap damage and less hp and resists and made penetration apply to towers They gave pushing minions to the team with an advantage, giving them even more map pressure They removed bot tower fortification And there is a lot of movement creep in items further cementing map pressure, the ooc movement on lethality items being the latest example

thats because at that point in the game none of that matters since they caught up at that point all that matters is one good team fight before that the team thats ahead needs to stay ahead by taking as much as possible and stopping the enemy team from getting any sort of adv, while the team behind needs to farm up so that kda no longer happens while giving up as little as possible but understanding that they're going to have to sacrifice some things

It just makes logical sense that the more people you have on the team the less influence you have on the game. This doesn't prevent you from climbing but it does increase the number of games it takes for you to reach your correct rank.

This was very evident to me when I used to play Starcraft 2. I reached Diamond in 1v1s without any problem. Reaching Diamond in 2v2s took a bit longer. Reaching Diamond in 3v3s took even longer than that. And reaching Diamond in 4v4s took an extremely long time (probably more games than 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 combined.)

And in league we have 5v5s. That means that no matter how good "the system" is it still is going to take a long time to climb due to factors like player psychology that are beyond Riot's control.

Oh yea that's absolutely true. The more people you have on your team, the more communication that has to be done and the higher percentage there is for someone to be bad.

My teammates sure do have emotions that consume them in a game of league of legends. But brains? lol idk about that.

"Your teammates have brains."

You MIGHT be right, but most of the times I'm fairly certain they just have dog brains or something, because all they know how to do is chase people around barking at them. Maybe a cow brain, since half the time they don't know how to do anything but graze around in lane and feed.

Human brains though? Not sure about that one.

Don't give me some kid who's on a 9 loss streak just because I'm on a 6 win streak.

That's why I believe that, in Yolo-Queue, it's not so much the ten champions on the rift that you have to worry about, but rather the 10 brains contending behind the champions.

A game can be won simply by convincing enough members of the enemy team that they have lost.

lol, that is awesome if you can figure out how to do it plz let me know :)

It would be cool for league to have a 1v1 ranked mode using the howling abyss map or something. Please do it riot :)

Using the butchers bridge map.

Umm...no. You can't keep a long win streak cause the more you win....the more are your chance to get a bad player in team. I've seen this happen over and over again, its not just luck.

I pride myself in my ability to ruin other people's soloqueue experience while keeping everyone on my team in a good mood. :^)

If its hard to keep a win streak and stop a lose streak, then shouldn't you also win because the enemy can't keep a win streak as well?

Paradox

TNHA Baritone1 votes

We need to be more sensitive to people. Emotion and mindset is a big part of winning. You are a smurf? Be too cocky and you'll blow your lead. Care too much about your KDA? You die and go into full tilt. Your mom screaming at you? Your focus is scrambled and you mess up and flame someone when you really want to flame your mom. All of these are examples that can happen to just about any body. Conversely, you feel resolute and determined? You turn around your gameplay completely. If you can control/manipulate your own and teammates' emotions, you can turn the game around. This game is not just mechanics. There's a psychological aspect to it too. However, you cannot win every game. That perhaps is the first thing to understand about this game.

TLDR Cheer them up rather than tear them down...even if you're bullshitting it all. It is easier to play with a tilted teammate and cheer them up than make them even more tilted.

My thought is - stop matching me with retards

I disagree,

players that have feelings will feel remorse and remorse is a key factor that drives players to improving. Hence why 80% of the server is bronze+ silver because they are remorseless players with no feelings or emotions.

i played 800 bronze games during season 6 and I can conclusively say that many bronze players don't feel pain, remorse or any emotion that defines a person's humanity. I'm not even sure if these players dream when they sleep.

That's kind of the definition of a team game. If you're not happy with it then you need to just go play solo games where you and only you can control the outcome of a match.
