The third Morde rework suggestion

So a lot of Morde mains are concerned about his future. I believe that Morde is in a shitty spot just because:

  1. He runs on gimmicks, without a gimmick Morde is just useless.
  2. He is DEPENDENT on one item, item 3116
  3. He is easy to kite, but he needs to be able to do damage; he struggles to play the role of a tank DPS/burst or whatever it is that, you know, he does.

This "rework" aims to make Morde a tank.

P: Mordekaiser receives 5% less damage for each enemy champion around him and deals an additional 5% more damage for each enemy champion around him. Q: Mordekaiser empowers his weapon and hits an enemy champion 3 times, each time the enmy champion is struck- they are pushed away based on his maximum HP and armor. (This ability does double damage to minions and monster.) WP: Mordekaiser shield in it's current state. (Remove the decay) W: Mordekaiser empowers his armor, making his shield twice as durable. E: Mordekaiser slams his hammer on the ground, dragging it from one side to another; enemy champions will be displaced and if pressed up against a wall, stunned for 1 second- (1.5 - 2.0 at max rank.) (This ability does double damage to jungle monsters.) R: Remains the same, however the damage is based on how much armor he has and how much HP he has. If the person fighting is cursed and dies, Morde controls him; however, if the person takes enough damage- Mordekaiser can trigger his ultimate to try and execute the enemy champion. The execution is based on missing HP.

The changes: This little idea makes Mordekaiser so that he is tanky, VERY hard to kill- and his only realistic threat should be that he is literally the definition of CC and peel. Even if Mordekaiser is being built to do damage, he shouldn't be doing very much damage at all. His abilities should have very low ratios however enough base damage so that he can farm or jungle. (I took in consideration that he should also be able to jungle!)

What would then be good items on him: item 3075 item 3025 item 3022 item 3742 item 3143 item 3047 / item 3111 item 1401 item 3632 < Insert MR item > Insert MR item < item 3190

What he would then excel at: Keeping his carries and back line safe by literally shoving his opponents back What he would struggle with: Laning against a duelist, heavy mobility champions that are back-liners and champions that can nullify his ability to push champions back

Champions he is weak against: Riven Fiora Aatrox Illaoi Jhin Lucian Quinn Kled Kennen Varus Jax Pantheon and other relative champions

Champions he is strong against: Poppy Shyvana Shen Garen JarvanIV Darius DrMundo Maokai Nasus Volibear Warwick Yorick and other relative champions

Tank or AP juggernaut? Braum/Leona damage or damage with survivability like Vlad or Mundo?

I am not sure what you mean. What I did catch was that you are asking how much damage he will if he got this treatment, he should be doing about the same damage as Braum/Leona and perhaps a little more. His ultimate though will be an execution so it depends on how low, it could be fatal and do extreme damage.

I'm asking because a huge part of the backlash to the juggernaut attempt was that he became team-dependent (early especially).

From what I've observed, Mord players care for their team deeply, but they are still numero-uno.
They want to be a constant threat, at the front of the enemies' minds, an imposing and inevitable unwavering wall. To feel powerful and able to kill.
Solo kill if the opportunity comes even.

They don't want to be tied at the hip to their allies' damage, which is what Braum/Leona level damage is.

The issue with that is Morde needs an entirely new identity if he is going to be both healthy and a threat at the same time. Why?

Every champion that is a SIGNIFICANT threat will have a gapcloser or a way to get around not having a gapcloser. Garen Speed boost that removes slows Darius Pulls Riven Mobility Fiora Mobility

Just about every champion that isn't a significant threat on their own however, don't have mobility nor a way to bypass that mobility without blowing their load. When they have blown their load, they aren't a threat anymore- they do what they are suppose to do . . . tank.

Amumu Alistar Nautilus Alistar Sejuani Poppy Shyvana Volibear

Morde on the other hand, the people that main him right now . . . they want the best of ALL worlds. That just isn't going to happen without him being put down in an overall shitty position:

People that say Morde is in a good spot right now are just delusional, he just isn't. He needs one item to even exist in the game as it is, and he is cut in between trying to do damage while at the same time trying to soak up damage. Instead of trying to do everything, why not focus on just one thing? He is after all, a man with a large set of armor. So why not make him into a tank that can slam somebody away and protect his allies? If you are worried about it not making sense because he is the 'king' of the shadow isles . . . well, there are plenty of champions that cross that boundary already. Look at thresh,

Thresh Do you really think this guy wants to throw his lantern to save his adc? If I was Thresh, I would throw it only a few feet away from Warwick saying "Fetch" and let him die like the dog he is.

Good, we both understand it then. He's not ok. The core though is that he needs to feel powerful and imposing on his own. He also has a super unhealthy relationship with item 3116 which is holding him back.

But he has to be a constant threat, not necessarily a burst threat. He wants to sit there and wail on people. Traditionally that has been done through damage, which is why I mentioned it.

I'll narrow it down even more actually, the feel near him for the enemy should be akin to an ulted Volibear or Shyvana when she goes berserk. Not Leona or Braum.

To be clear: That's feel. Not saying he should have perma-ulted Voli damage.

Morde will feel super strong when he is throwing people around like they are rag dolls, it is like a kind of psuedo strength that is very intimidating and enables him to have a larger power budget than what he currently has. His threat is the fact that he has obscene amounts of CC, if the enemy is caught long enough in his CC chain, they will be pushed under tower or they will be ganked. Volibear and Shyvana are very low threats or at least if they build to be useful in the mid game, they are countered hard by CC and especially slows:

item 3022 item 3025 item 3116

If somebody doesn't have a gap closer or a way to apply damage through incredible amounts of range- they won't become a very large threat without being obscenely fed. But every champion in the game is a threat if they are fed, so it isn't anything special.

Can't just take the definition of a champ and flip it on its head. Best way to check for sure would be to directly ask some of the Mord mains on the boards how they feel about your changelist tbh.

The above makes Mord into a Nautilus that kites himself (knockback on the Q)

Mord needs tenacity and/or a haste, not hard cc.

Sion Poppy These champions were flipped on their head successfully. All of Mordes 'forms' or kits were toxic and unhealthy for the game or he struggled to fit into the met; if his abilities change but his identity remains the same then there should be a problem. Morde kites himself, yeah, but that is what one of his weaknesses are and he should be picked into a melee lane or the jungle to avoid that problem.

I'm saying he'd feel really bad with such a mechanic. The 'better' the Mord would be doing the more he would punish himself with the knockback. There's a difference between getting kited and kiting yourself resulting in a free flash's worth of movement for the enemy.

The key is what the main post focuses on as his identity,

I didn't play old Sion/know any old Sion players so I can't comment on his resonance with his previous players and how they felt about the rework. I know a few old Poppy players very well though and while they can't go IE anymore to instaQ the enemies, they still murder stuff easily while never dying like they used to, and stick to anything they please like glue (which is what they liked about her 'cannot be peeled' style). I don't think Poppy was as flipped on her head as it may seem.
