I think Riot needs to put a lot of thinking one what they want supports to do.
Damage creep has NEVER been more present than the support role.
Used to be that supports didn't do damage, and instead provided CC to engage or peel for their carries, or heal/shielded their carries.
Then champions like
came around, which were annoying because they could do damage, but that is ok because their emphasis is on either healing allies or cc-ing enemies. They can do a lot of damage by Lux has to proc her passive and Karma has to use her ult+Q combo and they were relatively easy to play around once you got used to them
can do a surprising amount of damage with his E passive, but has to charge it up, has a telegraph, and can't one shot unless you build him as an ADC which is very unviable.
Was scary at first but his stun requires him to dive the enemy, his Q is one of the worst hooks in the game and his Ult is still supportive (the reset is stupidly programmed but whatever)
Deals way too much damage from too far away and can heal, cloak, shield+damage with global ult, can snare too. The one thing that was a "saving grace" is that to play her support you had to build
which gave her AP, which helped her healing but not her damage
Great. Now champions that would need to build AD to justify their existence get to do so.
It's a great AD item and the passive makes clearing wards super easy!
Which leads to the game I just had where I was against a
support who built both
and
while keeping his original
so he gets to spam the crap out of wards while one shot-ing our wards. It's complete bogus.
