Would it be illegal to sell "Elo boosts" as a dynamic que 4 man?

KilljoyX··96 votes·5,598 views

? As far as riot is concerned dynamic que elo boosting is fine so why can't premades just make smurfs and sell elo boosts to people?

Is there something I'm missing about this or did riot just legalize elo boosting.

Basically 4 people who are gold/plat/dia/master could easily boost bronze and silver accounts up especially on smurfs and it's legal as far as I can tell.

Nope. Dynamic Boost is entirely legal.

Well, assuming that you leveled your smurfs manually, then yeah.

Elo Boosting is Legal now.

It's not boosting if the client is playing, he's still climbing up the ladder himself, just with the help of "friends"

Elo boosting is when you have a friend or booster play on your account for you to get the account a higher rating, and sharing accounts is against the rules.

The effect is the same. He gains an elo level he doesn't deserve because he paid for it.

I'm not saying it's ok I'm just saying it's not against the rules to my knowledge, it's not account sharing or the use of flagged 3rd party programs

Maybe the rules will get updated if this starts to become a problem, like they'll ban smurfs and do a wide account ban like they do with bots.

I dunno it doesn't seem fair but it's not against the rules if you wanna invest the time and money into getting help ranking up with mercenary's, riot atm has no qualms against it (to my knowledge)

So what you're saying is it is boosting in spirit but not within the summoners code.

The thing is: it's boosting when someone else plays on your account for you. It's not boosting if you're playing on your account with someone better than you and they help you getting a higher rank.

If that was considered boosting, the entire idea of dynamic Q (playing ranked games with friends) would have been against Riot's rules.

Vistha Kai2 votes

It is boosting, period.

Whenever it's aganist rules is a different thing.

XIII Vanitas2 votes

No, it's not. The term "boosting" according to Riot Games has a very specific meaning and it's the one that I described.

We don't make the rules and we don't choose the meaning of the words that are commonly used.

BIH Diamond2 votes

This was possible before as well with duo q nothing new

1011001110002 votes

But it's easier within a dynamic because you can control more teammate skill variable, in duo queue you still had to account for 3 strangers.

In Dynamic, you can boost in teams, which means consistency is more prevalent.

Doesn't mean much. Before a Diamond player could easily destroy silvers/golds alone and carry their friends. It really didn't change much at all

But a challenger couldn't easily destroy master tier players, a dia can't easily beat high plat and low diamond and so on. It's not extreme elo disparity that is the issue in all cases.

You act like 5 man boosters are a thing.

It is actually harder to boost as 5 man unless 4 people are smurfs

Wimbledofy1 votes

it IS BOOSTING. it is not bannable though. Just because riot wants to try to say boosting only means 1 thing, it doesn't, riot did not invent the term elo or boosting.

Veraska1 votes

this is really nit picky but it's just a fun fact. riot didn't actually invent the term. ELO is a really old rating system that was invented to rank chess players

Its when you mention the word sell. They cant stop people from smurfing and boosting a lower level player up even tho they are against boosting. But im pretty sure if they can prove money was involved then they have proof boosting was involved and they would probably do something about it.

But my thing about boosting is...whats the point?

  1. If you are bronze and someone boosts you up to gold or higher or even just silver. What is the point because once they hand back over the account and you have to play the games yourself against people you do not belong with....now you will be getting smashed every game. Which will not be fun...so for what? A silver or gold boarder next season?

  2. Again the fun....it takes the fun out of earning it yourself.

I was silver season 4.......gold bronze in season 5 promos and for some reason never made it back out.

Got B5 after going 7-2 in my promos this season (10th game was not counted because of Loss Prevention)

Im now starting my B2 promos and having a blast trying to move up.

Why let someone else have the fun for you just to suffer misery once they get you to a level you can not compete at?

Hyperiön1 votes

So people can have bragging rights and end of year rewards. They would rather pay for it now and get it, than having to go through hundreds of games for it in the long road in which they probably wouldn't get it on their own anyways.

Bobloser35554 votes

If you have a gold border and play like bronze people will expect more from you but you can never live up to it. Getting boosted to an elo that you do not belong in is a lose-lose situation.

DrCyanide3 votes

Getting to Gold or higher playing one role/champion and then playing a different one provides similar false expectations.

You can smurf and help someone out but:

  • You aren't doing them a favour since they will end up in a ELO they don't belong in and they will drop hard after. They will ruin a lot of games for other people when they start bombing.
  • You can't charge money on it since it's against the terms & conditions.

Riot can't prove or disprove this factor, so nobody will ever get banned for it unless Riot bans them based on advertising.

Also, nobody that's going to be okay with getting boosted cares about their ranked. They just want rewards and bragging rights.

If someone's in 'elo hell' and getting boosted due to that, they'll quickly realize it wasn't 'elo hell'. They were just bad.

I disagree with the last portion, elo hell does exist, it's perfectly possible to do well in a game, play near perfectly, secure objectives, get pentas, and not feed, but still lose because two of your lanes fed and won't gather for objectives. Part of the reason why boosting can occur isn't because you're bad, but rather that you don't have bad teammates.

WoonStruck2 votes

And I'd disagree with the entirety of what you said because the statistical averages of what your argument implies means that boosting should not be possible.

'elo hell' might keep you down ~100 MMR at most. A gold 1 will not be held back in silver due to 'elo hell'. Even if you are held back that 100 MMR, it will not be for long.

If your argument was "I was silver/gold/plat last year", and you can't reach the same the next year, its because A) You got lucky and actually don't belong there B) You got worse at the game relative to the average playerbase C)Your champions are worse and you refuse to play others and are not significantly ahead of your current MMR in skill.

Elo hell is a myth that only still exists because "STATISTICS SAY ITS POSSIBLE!! SEE ITS REAL1!!!1!"

You realize he was on the number 8 NA team and simply moved from number 8 to number 1 by getting on the number 1 team. The teams did not improved they just have him on it now.

His story pretty much proves elo hell exists and it's wherever your team is worse than you.

How does a team roster affect Elo Hell?

Elo Hell works under the entire premise that you are a solo player in a 5v5 game.

Which team he's on has nothing to do with it.

There are no solo 5v5s any more so it's pretty much the same. All really high elo games have a 5 man in it one way or the other. Don't believe me check out challenger streams. They're pretty much always 4 or 5 manned to get the top spots.

Here's another problem, and one way to help out.

If you're not playing someone like Zed and can't 1v5 carry with the champion, try something called not starving the rest of your team. The method you mention here actually starves your team because you keep taking the kills. Literally, I have a 13 kill brand get pissed about my 0 kill Jhin doing no damage while taking all of my kills (literally waiting until my next hit would kill them.)

You can still have a lot for yourself, but don't starve your teamates or they won't be able to survive ANYTHING without you. Give them a fighting chance at least and if they won't take the kills, then you can hog them.

I'm a support jungle main, I'm not taking that many kills. If anything, my ratio of assists to kills is usually 2:1 or so

Funny, it's as if the enemy team doesn't have that happen MORE often than your team, given only 4 people on your team have a chance to feed if you're as perfect as you say you are.

I'm not saying it's as likely to occur, nor am I saying I play perfectly, but overall in the vast majority of my games, I don't feed. That being said, in most of my games, my teammates don't feed, unless for some reason it's promos or series in which case for some reason I get a feeder or someone toxic. It's almost guaranteed for some reason. Last season I hit series for bronze to silver 5 times..

It's just as likely as for the enemy team, even moreso. There's not a magic algorithm that makes you get more feeders.

Not really. If you don't que as a premade there is a 100% chance you don't have a 5 man where there is ~2-4% chance at low elo ~6-7% chance at plat/dia/master elo of the opponents being a 4/1 or 5/0.

You have effectively no control over those games because its the premade vs the premade. Even if you win about half of them winning 3.5% and losing 3.5% keeps you where you are pretty much no matter what.

even disregarding premade teams, just not having someone I know can play that role adequately already increases the likelihood that someone on my team will do poorly because they don't usually take that role.
