They Do Listen

Riot has reached out and showed that they are at least listening to us with this blog-thing that I didn't know existed: First Blog: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/riot-games/announcements/riot-pls Second Blog: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/riot-games/announcements/riot-pls-dynamic-queue-sandbox-and-league-2016

Anyways, it's not an official announcements kind of thing but more of an update "here's what we are trying to do and why" kind of blog. Nothing in it is guaranteed but I feel as though they've done an excellent job in covering the issues and giving us reassurances that they are at least trying.

Even if you disagree with their priorities or intentions or anything, please at least recognize how much they are trying and changing. They hear us, but they can't do it all right away and these things take time. I'm not asking for people to give up on things like Solo Q or Sandbox or any of that, but can we at least stop with the "FCK RITO THEY WON'T GIVE US ANYTHING AND DON'T EVEN LISTEN TO THE COMMUNITY" threads?

Anyways, thanks for at least listening to us Riot. While I may not agree with your prioritization when it comes to Dynamic Q fitting better in the competitive scene than Solo Q, or while I don't like how Sandbox Mode isn't being worked on atm and was instead set aside for another project, I can still say Thank you for always trying to change and improve the game for the benefit of the players.

Thanks again, and please keep up with this blog (and also promote it more please, I didn't know it existed until like 30mins ago)

{quoted} Thank you for always trying to change and improve the game for the benefit of the players.

Removing solo queue and team builder was not an attempt to improve the game for the benefit of the players.

They directly addressed this exact topic in the blog if you read it, here's the quote:

we do want to support a queue that levels up in competition like any other team sport: through leadership, cooperation, and, yes, raw skill. All athletes possess these attributes in different measures, but they understand and value them intrinsically. Prior to the launch of dynamic queue, we felt like we had a competitive ladder that over-indexed on the raw skill and individualism parts instead of naturally promoting all-around great teamplay

later going on to say:

we do want to be clear: we believe that dynamic queue is closer to representing a healthy, competitive landscape in League of Legends than solo/duo queue. We’re not saying this to present a binary ‘one or the other’ situation -- it’s a belief in the same way we know we’re under-serving those who want a way to measure (and communicate) their individual performance

and read both of the blogs entirely before arguing because there are a lot of topics that were covered that intaract and affect each other beyond a "one or the other" relationship.

That does not address the issue at all.

No one gives even the slightest fuck that dynamic queue exists. No one gives even the slightest fuck that it's Riot's "priority". No one gives even the slightest fuck that Riot thinks it's the best. None of those is a problem. The problem is they removed two features because of it.

You are blinded by rage and refuse to see the situation from another perspective.

First you need to understand that no matter how vocal Solo Q supporters are (myself being one of them) we do not make up the majority of players

Solo Q is not the priority for the majority of players, despite having large amount of supporters.

Many people support Dynamic Q, myself being one of them. It is better compatible for the majority of players, and we need to respect that.

You need to respect Riot's priorities as well, as Solo Q is hardly the only thing they are working on. It doesn't matter how much you care about the subject if you refuse to listen to anyone else's situation. I believe it's called empathy?

Anyways, try reviewing the situation with a more level head and create a stance on the topic that includes more than your personal opinion

I'm not trying to remove dynamic queue. Like I said, no one cares that it exists. The problem is solo queue and team builder got removed. YOU are the one who is an asshole. YOU are the one who lacks empathy. YOU are the one who gets mad that other people are happy with the things they have and don't want the things that you like.

I never called you an asshole...

anyways, I am confused what we are even debating about simply because I've never seen your standpoint on the topic before. I assumed you were one of the players who hated DQ and only wanted Solo Que, which is my mistake.

The blog doesn't state anything about TB, so I really don't have anything to say about that but like I said before, Solo Q issues have been acknowledged

You know dynamic queue didn't replace team builder right? That was the new champion select, which they are working to bring to other modes, including blind pick.

Cmon now, thats bullshit. They hardly said anything at all there except for "Dynamic que is better than Solo que because we say so"

I thought I stated in my OP that this blog was not for exact information, but to explain that they are hearing us and what they are prioritizing first (and the reasoning along with it).

You're statement of "Dynamic Que is better than Solo Que because we say so" is completely inaccurate as they specifically point out why they prefer Dynamic Que from a competitive aspect while admitting there are problems with it that must be fixed with Solo player's experience being one of the issues

Please don't try to twist things to better fit your bias, it's unfair and untrue. Acknowledge that Riot understands the issues and is trying to remedy them

I'll join you in being happy and praising riot that they're sort of communicating with us on this issue.

However, this still really, really grinds my gears:

"We know that for some players, dynamic queue undermines individual recognition of skill, and that’s not something we can solve with iterative improvements. It’s a philosophical difference."

To me, making this statement and prioritizing dynamic queue above all else signals that their vision for how skill in league should be recognized/rewarded does not involve a need for a solo queue, and, given that competitive integrity is the only really sound argument in favor of one, belies their intent to never make solo queue.

They say they aren't ruling it out because basically everyone who wanted it assumes it won't happen and is angry, so they might as well just fade quietly away with it to avoid backlash. It's cynical, but they really backed themselves into a corner when they said they would before they considered it carefully.

I'd respect them a lot more if they just straight up said no, but, given the vindictive ravenous nutballs running around these boards and in the game, I can understand why they won't.

Given how much they've listened to pro players in the back, and the universal sentiment of very high elo players is that dynamic queue interferes with competitive integrity, I wonder how much of it really boils down to a "philosophical difference" and how much a dedicated soloque would just screw with the current dynamic queue. It's clearly their pet project and I suspect that their shielding it from what a solo queue would do to it. That also really grinds my gears.

While I understand your reasoning, Riot said this:

we believe that dynamic queue is closer to representing a healthy, competitive landscape in League of Legends than solo/duo queue. We’re not saying this to present a binary ‘one or the other’ situation -- it’s a belief in the same way we know we’re under-serving those who want a way to measure (and communicate) their individual performance.

What I take from this is that they are favoring Dynamic Q due to how it puts more importance in the teamwork parts of the competition, but they have recognized that they went too far when taking away from the importance of individual skill. They've acknowledged that this is an issue that they are working to fix

Even if they decide to do away with Solo Q, at least they recognize that Dynamic Q is cancerous to Solo Players and are working to fix it. We can be happy about that, even if they are vague on the exact details

And before people argue about how upset they are about Riot's vagueness, please acknowledge that they are trying to learn from past mistakes of promising commitments that they can't follow up on. What they are saying is the most detailed they can without risking you guys another opportunity at ripping them apart on the boards (that so many love to do). I praise Riot for attempting to learn from their mistakes and finally giving us an upfront answer to our questions, even if their plans aren't finalized yet (which is an unfair expectation to have for them in the first place) at least they are being honest

I think they're wrong, but a little disagreement is healthy and I'm not so completely sure of it to lose my mind. While I think they're (more) clearly communicating their intentions than before, I really hope they are being as honest as you say when it comes to their motivations.

I'm not trying to take away from what you're saying at all; I think the attitude pendulum does need to swing back in a positive direction more frequently than it usually does around here, and I applaud you for helping make that happen. I just try to throw a little reason around where it looks like it'll be appreciated.

I completely understand where you're coming from and I'm actually trying to do the same man, thanks for understanding [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]
