It's one thing to not be able to move through minions.

It's another thing entirely for your champion to have a seizure in the creep wave because they're constantly recalculating their pathing. This has been going on since forever, people have been asking for this to be addressed since forever, and it's still a thing.

Minion block really needs to be removed or modified.

Say, just apply a speed reduction for wading through dense drifts of creeps. No RNG, no buggy flailing..

At this point I have assumed Riot is completely fine with minion block and doesn't see it as a large issue. They can hotfix champions in a day but can't fix minion block over 8 seasons? Ya don't hold your breath my friends

I'd be fine with body blocking existing if Riot would go all-out with it.

Let us block our creeps, and let us block champions. If we can't do that, why even have the mechanic?

RenownedWheat421 votes

Probably not even the reason, but I imagine we can't hard block our creeps to prevent freezing lane at 1:45~ and cheesing an early gank once your jg hits two.

I agree with you though, for the record.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

That makes sense and all, but why can't Riot just make it so that it triggers when the minions enter combat? That way when minions are traveling you can't stall them by body blocking them, but you can block / bump them when they're already fighting in the lane.

I agree with this. Typically, the only reason body-blocking of any sort exists in strategy games or MOBAs is because it is meant to be a baseline form of crowd control tanks can apply via their larger hitboxes. Dota 2 and HotS capitalize on this by making body-blocking a core component to tanking, while also making pathing around creeps so smooth that they never feel like an encumbrance. By contrast, League doesn't really put any significant emphasis on body-blocking between champions (which could be a much sounder way of giving tanks baseline usefulness than to give them raw damage), but creep block is nonetheless a real problem in top lane, whereas the game's occasional pathing problems sometimes feel like there's still some legacy code that needs to be updated. This I think is also why a lot of champions have been given either mobility or the ability to ghost through units (or both), as maneuvering in lane would otherwise feel bad.

Personally, I'd be in favor of a reversal of unit block, where champions could block each other much more clearly in proportion to their hitboxes, but where there would be no creep block at all, at least not allied creep block, and not with the game's current pathing. Features are only good to a game insofar as they enable good gameplay, and so far creep block feels like it has done more harm than good. If it is there to balance certain champions, then it would be better to address those champion directly than to have them rely on a dysfunctional mechanic.

I would be completely down for the removal of allied creep block. It's beyond dumb when your minions bunch up to help you because a champion attacked you, and end up blocking you and getting you killed.

Doozku5 votes

The problem is that the game is balanced around creep block, riot have said so themselves. Removing allied creep block would be a big buff to ranged toplaners who can hide behind their minions, poke you down, then run behind their casters to drop aggro. What needs to be done is that the code of minion pathings needed to be fixed because it's so bad that its embarrassing. Also minion pinning, which I'm counting as when minions pin you to a wall where you can't move, needs to be completely removed.

They had minion blocking in the game before, Heimerdinger could block his minions until they formed an unstoppable tsunami that would roll all the way to the Nexus. Here's an old video showing that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvugzSQwaso I don't think anyone wants that back. Instead of removing minion block (which would cause a ton of balance issues) they could make it so you slowly push allied minions out of the way.

Bârd3 votes

This was back in the days when Heimerdinger could have six turrets. It wouldn't be possible anymore.

ninjaroxas1 votes

You can also use Zz

Leetri1 votes

You could use blue trinkets, Zz'roth's Portal, Zyra plants and so on to block off whatever Heimer can't do on his own.

Bârd1 votes

Blue trinkets don't have unit collision. Plants might, but their hitboxes are tiny and they don't last very long. Zz'rot portals have significant collision, but you need a lot of item CDR to actually block a lane. Hell, I don't even know if Heim turrets could be used to block anymore.

Starcraft243ver1 votes

These turrets were dying so slowly ...

HalcyonDweller1 votes

I agree, being able to move through minions but making it slow you would be a perfect trade-off.

Give us the ability to shove allied minions aside when we try to move through the wave. Boom, problem solved.

Yeah because Skarner really loves ganking knowing that a failed gank equals death...

Literally played a game yesterday where my first couple of ganks led to death, because Skarner couldn't figure out a way around 3 caster minions for a trundle to simply walk up and kill me without his ice pillar.

Add this to the laundry list of significant problems that seem to stick around season after season after season after season after season.

You know what REALLY needs attention? Support items. Those things are just too damn enjoyable for the players. We can't have that. No, can't have that at all. Better remove them entirely and make everything a fucking sight stone.

Molotov Coqtiz2 votes

I feel like it would be beneficial for enemy creeps to block, but not your own... It's aggravating getting screwed over by your own little guys when the enemy is diving you.

You know there is problem when red buff gets stuck between wall and azir's soldiers and can't get out or when your champion completely changes pathing because thresh threw his lantern. This is only getting worse.

Riot has 2 things they can do with minion block: 1.Enchance and rework it. Make it matter to the game, and focus some decision making skills to it. (For example in Dota you can stand behind your minions and block their path a bit. If you do it good first wave starts a lot closer to your tower and gives you a push advantage.) While this would be hard to do, it would increase skill ceiling and provide a lot more strategic depth to the game and passives that remove minion block would actualy become important (Kassadin, Fizz). I personaly think this is a better one.

2.Complete removal or significant reduction. Still a better solution then this one, where its just an outdated system that is not fun for anybody.

DeadUnborn1 votes

champions should rubberband push minions if the game detects they are pushing the champs path

Pinkaj1 votes

Had to flash out of a minion wave because I was under a turret while getting minion blocked. I hate it. Minions also get stuck in Illaoi's tentacles. Minion block should be okay, but not to the point where you're just stuck.

JarodDempsey1 votes

Pshh Yesterday i got stuck on nothing trying to path from one side of a tower to another and it repeatedly ocurred until i clicked north of the tower (i was clicking south), if pathing is that bad on immovable structures immagine how shitty the code must be for minions. Also, bodyblocking on champs would be terrible.

Longtowel1 votes

I think its a technical issue that's hard to deal with, since in many games, pathing and collision has been a problem.

I don't know what it is, I'm not tech savvy, but its just an observation.

But I think part of it makes sense. Sure, its a bit annoying when you are stuck in a creepwave and you're having a spasm. But say in a movie, there's a chase scene, you won't see the guys run through a huge crowd of people when there's a much emptier space next to them.

Minions do act as a bit of a block as is, since attacking champions when you are next to a massive creepwave will get you aggro.

If there are ways to make the mechanism cleaner then by all means, but I think its not too much of a problem.

Besides, why else would we have Fizz passive?
