The Truth Behind Off-Meta Supports ...
Ever since that topic came up about the
Support going with
and getting banned for grieving his team- a lot of people I have come to play with (even some friends) are hesitant about any champions going into the support role whom aren't considered supports. A few good examples are
and so on. But ever since that 'incident', people immediately assume i'm going to troll or feed when I go
Support. I tell them as to why I do so, and promise them that I am not going to do anything outside of my job (stealing kills, leaving my ADC in the first 5 minutes, screwing around, ect.) but people don't believe me. Truth be told, I can't blame them for their concern because off-meta picks tend to lack the kits in helping the team with set up kills / surviving / securing objectives with champions such as
, ect.
While this is true, do know there are players like myself who take their role seriously and play wisely. If you need proof, feel free to look at my match history.

There's also the fact people may also have this fear of Off-Meta Supports because certain people want to play their champion so badly, they'll bring them into Support (A good example is
players will sometimes do this because they want to carry despite being a Support). I get it, I truly do ... it sucks when someone picks a champion not meant for Support and then they ruin your game by doing things outside what a Support should do. But that's the thing- It's how they play that champion, not the champion itself being chosen.
It's like when someone goes
Support and instead of building support items (
) they go full AP (
) and play like they're a Mid Laner / Carry. Hell a
can do the same and go full AP with no items in benefiting the team just to achieve kills. Even if they build a
, it's how they play that influences the game overall. I don't go
because I didn't get Top / Jungle, rather I pick her because her kit + tankiness is really good in protecting the carry along with the fact I know how to play her in the Support role. If a
comes to gank us, I just W as he's diving towards my ADC. If my ADC is about to die, I use R to send the enemy team flying back to base. Her E is useful in securing a kill, and I certainly make sure to get items like
so it helps my team get out of team fights in the later stages of the game.
- Too Long; Didn't Read: It's not the champion that you pick, it's how / what you plan on doing with that champion that matters. When in Worlds we saw a
Support, it wasn't because he wanted to carry the team or play his way. It was a direct counter to
and it worked. He played accordingly on what will help the team, without the result of grieving them. I even believe a
Support can work WITHIN REASON and not having to leave your ADC by themselves all game. Off-Meta champions can work wonders but it has to be done in a logical manner and within reason. I continue to see people assuming the worst when people pick odd Support champions, and I am aware of troll picks / people's intention on playing the champion they want despite the likely outcome ... but there are people like me who truly value their role and want to provide the best outcome for their team even if it may seem unlikely at first. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope it does something for the community to think back on.
