Who else feels like Mini Gnar is not enough of a weak moment?

I'm not talking about the safety of the hop. I'm talking about hyper. It hurtselz. Can't dodge his autoattacks.

mini gnar may do a fair amount of damage while as baby gnar....but man he is one of the squishiest champs in the game in this form. he is on par with people like sona/zyra it feels like at times. maybe not quite to that extreme, but he blows up pretty fast even with tank items.

I mean if you build him full tank he won't feel too bad in mini gnar. but he is still squish. just try build mini gnar with one or two damage items. like i used to for fun build him sated gnar with sorc boots and then full tank. so I could proc his W passive every two hits and have insane attack speed. the pen helped it deal more dmg. But it was not practical as even with 4 full tank items he just explodes in mini gnar form. and with mostly bruiser/full tank items he will go down pretty fast anyway if hes even remotely focused. He is not a true tank in the sense maokai, rammus, sion, etc and this is why he is vulnerable.

he has to have some threat in this form, otherwise youd just constantly punish him when he's not in mega gnar form which he cannot really control when he gets that. at least not as well as youd like to.

How the hell am I supposed to lane against this guy?

Play Wukong, Yasuo, Fiora, or Irelia.

(Apparently Yorick and Akali both counter him due to lolghoulspam and lol jumponthesquishy, but nobody likes those characters)

IOW, in order to deal with Gnar and especially Mini Gnar you have to have a dash.

Dude, Gnar recks both Irelia and Fiora Yasuo and Wukong are pretty accurate though So 50/50

I did good once as Urgot. I just shielded every single one of his W procs. But in every other case, he was 5/0 by 8 minutes and we lost.

depends on the match up, who have you been trying to play as?

also keep in mind that gnar is considered a lane bully in top in most matchups. and he will generally win most lanes and go even in the skill level is equal of both opponents.

Swain, Quinn, Nasus, Malphite, maybe Garen and Sion. I only won once as Urgot, because I popped my shield each time he had 3 stacks on me. Now if I see him picked in draft imma pick Urgot again - but I'd like to not have an autoloss every time I get a Gnar in blind.

well it sounds like you are just inexperienced with a top lane match up in general. Gnar is kinda shifty and you tend to play more reactionary to the lil guy than pro-actively.

Even matchups are imo Riven, Jax, Kennen, Swain is actually not a bad pick if you abuse your good damage and can last till 6. id probably be pretty reserved until 6 though.

Riven is a skill match up, but she can punish him super duper hard for mistakes IF you know when he makes a mistake.

Jax can just jump on him and beat him down in mini gnar form and stun him as well if he tries to chase. As jax on squishy ranged what you do every single time is Jump, auto, W (resets auto), auto. so you get two autos and a Q instantly. and then as he's chasing you can pop E and avoid most of his return damage. if he chases you too close you can stun him and get even more damage. at 6, you do the exact same thing only you pop two autos to set up 3rd empowered auto before destroy him with an empowered, and W empowered auto reset with the Q. it does a shit ton of damage to mini gnar. and its honestly like close to half his life bar. do that twice and a mini gnar will just be zoned out. respect mega gnar though.

Kennen is ranged to match the harass of Gnar and is also resourceless. will be harder once he builds a hexdrinker, spectres, but you can still melt him with free harass. just get your passive set up on auto, then throw Q, if it lands auto, then W. he's stunned. get some more damage. get him low enough and ult him right as he comes out of mega gnar and has blown jump for a free kill or blown flash.

Swain just shits on short range people in general as his damage is all point and click, but very short range. he also outsustains gnar pretty hard once he hits 6. if you can land the root mini gnar is basically boned.

but IN general....ranged can punish him while he is in mega gnar so long as they respect his W and ult. aka, be prepared to dodge it when you go into harass mega gnar. and melee can punish mini gnar by jumping onto him at the right time and getting short burst trades. both mini and mega gnar have their strengths and weaknesses. mega gnar can absolutely crush you if you do not respect the ult and W though.

really its just about learning when to trade and when not to trade. gnar is good into most matchups because of his versatility as he will always have moments where he can go in on you, but he has weaknesses that be exploited. dodging the boomerangs is pretty essential to beating him as well. if he lands every boomerang on you, you are just gonna be eaten alive. also not chasing him once he has jumped and boomeranged away from you is also key as he will just kite you forever.

None of those are great matchups against Gnar. You need to try playing someone who can take advantage of his squishy mini-form and avoid fighting his mega-form when possible. Some options are:

Jax Irelia Vladimir Fizz Renekton MonkeyKing XinZhao Yasuo Yorick

Basically, anyone capable of poking him down or forcing an all-in early while he's squishy in mini-form who scales well.

Yasuo is particularly obnoxious because he can deny Gnar's Q and the reduced cooldown and block his autoattack while easily getting on to him. In addition, Mega-Gnar's abilities are so telegraphed that many Yasuo players can dodge them with E.

People gave me loads of matchups with champs I don't own, but I already know that I can beat him with Urgot. My problem is mainly not autolosing the entire game as soon as I face him in blind

Idk. When i play garen or malph against gnar i tend to win most of the time. I guess its a matter of opportunity. Wallop makes him a bit of a bully but if you engage him while his hop is on cooldown and hes too close to get away easily you can beat on him till he gets hop and runs or turns into mega which i find easier to deal with cus of lower mobility. I guess it just takes practice. Watch for patterns and wait for mistakes.
