Top Lane has such little impact, my friend actually decided to quit League.
I didn't want to believe it. I know this game isn't exactly balanced at the moment, but that usually happens during every season + meta with changes. However, I have never seen it this awful before. While it doesn't affect me too hard since i'm a Support Main, my good friend is a Top Laner and ... well ... he was having the hardest time of his life.
You see, he's a
main, an excellent one. Played her religiously, knowing animation cancels and even beating opponents that counters Riven. We'd always hop onto Discord with our other friends to play normals / ranked together and he would always carry with Riven. Hell, even if we lost games- he wouldn't fret because he knew he did his job as a Top Laner. But for this Season? ... .. .. Holy christ it's sad.
He can't trade almost anyone now (
), he has so little impact on the map because the game is decided within the first 10 - 15 minutes (being a Support Main, I cannot stress how true this is when Bot Lane seems to always be the deciding factor) and even if he does a perfect backline / flank attack, champions like
ect. exist so he either cannot kill a single person or he gets cc'd so hard it ends up making him worthless in later teamfights. The way he described it, was that Riven was not rewarding in the slightest ... top lane, unless you abused certain meta champions, have zero impact on the map. That isn't even mentioning how he gets camped by the Jungler and if you don't have a good Jungler, you get zero assistance top lane throughout the entire game on top of not having any impact on the game itself.
Last night, feeling defeated, he decided to finally uninstall the game. It really hurt me to see him go, since I know he loves League of Legends. This meta broke his spirit, as he couldn't play his favorite champion because of how poorly the meta treated Riven. I'm aware there are ways to play Riven and possibly do well ... but the number of games you can pull her off is slim to none at this point. A whole lot of champions suffer Top Lane, and I didn't know how bad it was for them until I got to see how it impacted my friend who mained Riven. It was, tragic ... and the worst part is Riot hasn't done anything to address how horrible it is playing top lane.
But it doesn't stop there.
My other friend, a
main, doesn't want to play anymore because of the huge nerfs towards his items. He decided to leave League alone because his champion doesn't have any place right now in the game, no matter what he does. My other Support Main friend doesn't want to play because he feels forced into playing certain champions to even have a slim chance of winning (
ect) that are busted, rather than what's fun. I feel like League is in the worst state it's ever been in, and I too am feeling dreadful about it. Luckily my champion pool isn't hurting as badly as the others, but man ... i'm losing my friends because of this meta, and the changes have such a negative impact on most champions, it's not even remotely funny ...
I'm still friends with them, but now I won't have many friends to play League with .. ... . this is getting bad, fast.
support. Is it the best support champion? Not at all, but I adore it a lot. Being forced to play meta champions just to have an impact or win is ... .. not great.
meta was not fun, at all. It was horrible and I am still feeling it to this day ...
