Maybe it's just me, but I feel like this item is way too good overall. 100 AP, cdr, mana AND mana regen (and the grievous wounds passive thing). This is without a doubt the most loaded AP item in the game right now. I mean, is there any reason to build anything else when this item exists?
Princess Emma2 votesMorellonomicon is definitely stronger than it once was, but the item has been a staple in many AP champions builds for quite a long time, both before and after it's changes.
Even if Riot did nerf down the numbers (or revert it to it's previous state), I doubt it would make the item any less desirable. Unless of course, it was nerfed down to hell and back.
Although I do agree that the item is strong and has quite a nice bundle of stats.

Redesignated1 votesAnivia, Cassiopeia, Fizz, Lissandra, and Ryze are the standouts that rarely get it. Taliyah also sometimes skips it in favor of other choices. It's not a universal buy; for the champions that do get it, they get it because it's a stable first item that gives them a baseline they can work from. If they didn't have that, they might gravitate toward other item choices, but they'd be demonstrably weaker as a result.
Also, Morellonomicon doesn't give flat mana regen — you get mana restoration on kills and assists.
