If they want to bitch about it, THEY should be forced to be the support.

In this case, it looks like the OP built Deathcap and Luden's Echo on her.
Lost R1 votesI build Deathcap and Luden to max out her movement speed and AP. Her shield gives bonus attack damage, and THAT number scales off of AP, and more often than not, I'm in games full of AD melee assassins, where attack damage is the ONLY stat that matters to them. By the endgame, my shield gives about 90-100 bonus AD and upwards of 500-600 shields. And with my build, I can cast it almost as soon as it ends.
I don't build Harbinger anymore because people don't know what it does, and they squander the bonus on something stupid like a jungle camp or a minion when the enemy is RIGHT THERE.

Lost R1 votesI normally have to do things most supports would never be doing in a quintillion lifetimes, from pushing and defending every lane, sabotaging the enemy jungle, contesting baron AND dragon at the same time, destroying the enemy inhibitor, killing enemy champions, destroying enemy wards, warding every bush, and trying to stave off my entire team from committing suicide while they contend with soul-annihilating depression.
And those are just the GOOD games. I'm not going to play second banana to that.

Can supports carry games, yes, but not through damage (I recognize there are some viable counters to that like Vel'koz or Brand but Janna is not a damage support). Supports carry games through their utility. Landing skillshots to CC people, giving shields/heals at the right time that type of stuff. You sound to me like someone who wants to play mid but doesn't want to wait longer in queue so you put support and just play like a mid laner. Sure it can work in Bronze/Silver, but you'll never climb consistently doing that. Better players will just punish that style of play. But hey what do I know

Even with your full AP build pretty much, you still did the least amount of damage in the game, janna is not a damage dealing champ. Sure AP Janna might work for like bronze level of play, its no where near gold+.

the shield is 70% of her AP while the AD bonus is only 10% of her AP. The shield would be nice yes, but the damage isn't that great but you are pouring all these resources into 1 shield like a 1 trick pony, after that she is kinda useless if you go that route.

Well no, supports can be a huge variety of champions, ive seen shen, yasuo, veigar, practically any champ with one form of cc can pretty much support. The problem lies in the build and whats most effective. While a support your gold income is significantly less than everyone elses. So with janna while she does scale off of AP it hinders her more than not because you are focusing on the output of her abilities rather than the utility of her kit. If you want to go a more aggressive AP build for your support, I would recommend a different champion that relies more on "poke".

They tend to learn pretty quickly when I'm doing.

Not only are you building a terrible support, your actual AP build is even worse...the items you should be taking are not rabadons, or Ludens echo...at least get a 
or 
items that synergize with ap Janna...you already have plenty of run speed, and pure AP doesn't scale so well that you need to get a Rabadon for her...also, I don't see a defensive item in like 100 games of yours...instead of the deathcap, build a rod early...rod and angel staff are great for her.
