@Riot Stop giving damage to tanks!

I think we've all noticed the trend of Riot giving every single bruiser some form of True Damage/Armor Shred/% max HP damage/% HP True Damage built into their kits on top of sustaining mechanics plus low cooldown gap closers. I also think we've all noticed that bruisers are becoming increasingly more and more powerful. My question is why do these champions get super high base damages with their kit as well? It doesn't make sense for all these champions to build one offensive item then build pure tank and still output more damage than an AP or AD carry. The whole point of a tank is to absorb damage while outputting utility for their team. Not to deal tons of damage while being impossible to kill. Why do bruisers get the best of both worlds?

I'm actually surprised that the ADC role hasn't been completely replaced by another bruiser in the bot lane. What is the purpose of an ADC now? Bruisers get to build tanky while outputting as much damage as a squishy ADC. Add this to the fact that defensive items are cheaper to itemize and you get left with a more or less obsolete role. Pretty much the only thing the ADC role is best at is for right clicking on towers from a safer distance. When it comes to team fights it comes down to which bruisers blow the other back line up quicker. ADCs aren't even the best class for taking down tanks anymore. Every bruiser and their mother get some sort of free armor shred or true damage now. The problem is so great that a complete rework of ADCs and itemization is coming in the post season. Why don't ADC's get some of these things? Why does a bruiser get free armor shred when ADCs don't? Wouldn't it make more sense for an ADC to get things like these? Your only option is to play Vayne ADC because she is the only one who has a chance of competing with the true damage of these bruisers. This is the very reason Vayne is so popular again

So why does this trend keep continuing? Why does every bruiser get to dish out a metric ton of % true damage while building tank? Why do these champions get crazy high base damages? How does it make any sense?

bruisers arent tanks.

and while theyre strong in direct fights and should win 1v1's, adc have other advantages. theyre still the best class at sieging turrets, theyre safe with proper positioning, they have an easier time chosing and switching targets due to their range, and theyre make a gigantic difference when it comes to taking drake or nash.

the reason why theyre not obsolete is, because theyre needed to push an advantage after you win a fight.

its almost impossible to take a tower against 1 or 2 guys with decent waveclear as melee bruiser.

Oh my bad. So if they build a item 3078 or item 3071 before the item 3143 item 3065 item 3111 item 3075 item 3742 they aren't a tank. Got it

high defense doesnt make a champion a tank.

tanks also need the ability to initiate a fight, peel for their allies or lock a priority target down and keep him from moving and dealing damage.

Nautilus tank

Garen not a tank.

garen cant peel for shit if an ally is threatened. he can deal damage, and survive long enough to get in range of someone to start spinning, IF someone initiates for him. but thats it.

if you take that damage away, then whats left? hes nothing but a huge chunk of hp who does nothing.

I think building 5 HP/armor/MR items plus merc treads may classify as a tank

there is more to being a tank, than being able to soak damage.

Yeah, just watch them initiate teamfights and lockdown the enemy team...

You realize the whole point of the game is taking down turrets right? not kills no teamfights but taking down turrets... how come the role that is the best at it is becoming obsolete?

Eedat2 votes

because the role thats best at it keeps getting obliterated by the enemy Irelia before they have a chance to get anywhere near a tower

Fighters or Assassins?

because its not as simple as "walk to enemy tower and take it. Nobody will ever try to stop you and nobody on your team will ever get caught out"

It also doesn't help that items like Titanic Hydra scale damage off of defensive stats. I think that's a huge cause of making all of the tanky champions seem really strong right now.

Bruisers can't replace ADCs bot lane because farming is too hard against a ranged advantage. Even champions that typically can survive the ranged disadvantage in mid lane suffer in bot lane. E.g. I've played against Talon bot lane, and he must have arguably been a good player because his team was winning the other lanes pretty hard which kept them in it and once he got to start roaming he was solo killing all of my allies. In lane though, I was 7-0 before 15 minutes (unfortunately, my mid was 0-9 at that point).

Any ADC who knows what they're doing will wreck a melee champion if that champion isn't built to survive in that matchup (i.e. if that champion isn't Morde).

Thread entitled 'stop giving tanks damage.' Complains about bruisers instead.

Bruisers are supposed to be tanky dps, that's their identity. They are entirely separate from tanks and are generally less tanky than vanilla tanks

I will assume that we are talking True tanks and Not Juggernauts.

Even though tanks primary purpose is to Initiate fights, Soak Damage, peel enemies, and cause disruption. They still need some level of damage. With the exception of Supports. Tanks need to be competitive with their counterparts in lane farm if top lane, or in the Jungle, as a Jungler. The latter case was significantly improved with the Introduction of Cinderhulk, Which has been tuned multiple times now.

But compared to their Juggernaut counterparts. Tank Damage comes mostly in the form of Burst. (paired with their CC usually) As Sion, I can typically cast 2 or 3 basic spells in my rotation to wave clear. Were this may actually be a problem however. I can easily push the enemy into their tower. And they typically can't retaliate because they would draw minion aggro.

But that said and done. Even if the Purpose is waveclear, That isn't that much damage. A Full Combo may only do 500-800 health, And that would only be a problem against a glass cannon. But the real trick you got to remember with both Tanks and Juggernauts, It's AoE damage. If your using damage dealt as a measurement of power, then that power would be reduced if your weren't clumped up.

those stats actually belong on tanks why should people who build pure damage need also need to negate the build of the other teams fighters and tanks and by themselves no less. also most adcs have their own utility built in and or have dashes in addition to other people on their team providing utility for and protecting them. also most adcs have high bases and scaling damages on damaging skills out side their ults. this is all on the side that 550 range which everyone seems to complain about forgetting that there are champions with 125 range. or a champion being 'immobile' when they have 600 range permaslow perma crit and built in long as fuk stun and the fact that adcs build crit attack speed items that have free % movement speed on them
