picking open spellbook doesnt unlock jungle items when you switch to smite mid game.

is this intended? if so, thats kindof dumb.

because you can pick smite in champ select and then switch summoners at 2 minutes (and even use the new summoner) and still pick up the jungle items, despite not having smite equipped.

you can literally lane with smite until 2 minutes, recall, swap to tp and tp back to lane.

seems pretty weird and counterintuitive. id have thought jungle items would either be locked or unlocked dependent if you have smite at the time, or unlocked for the entire game no matter which summoner you start with.

Unsealed spellbook:

Gain a Summoner Shard at 2 min and another every 6 min after (Max 2 shards).

Smite: Buying Smite won't grant access to Smite items You cannot have two of the same Summoner Spell

why the heck not? thats what open spellbook is supposed to be for.

you trade direct power for versatility. you dont gain any combat stats like from the other keystone. being able to willy nilly change what youre doing in your game is the entire purpose of the keystone.

besides. you can actually just lane 2 minutes with smite, and then swap to tp and get back into lane, and buy jungle items later. so its already possible to do, but you just have to jump through an insignificant hoop to do it. because laning with smite for the first couple minutes isnt a challenge.

Why would you need a jungle item mid game? By then taking camps is not detrimental to your health or mana.

i wanted to try picking up cinderhulk in top lane, soley for the health % bonus as a cheaper warmogs (that also grants more health). start the lane with ignite, swap to smite to buy the item, swap to tp by midgame for map pressure.

i can see other champs doing something similar just to get access to the cheap jungle items. some of their passives also have effects that you dont get on other items. like there isnt another item that grants a 20% health boost.

the thing is, it is still possible to do. you just have to go into the game with smite and lane with it for 2 minutes, which isnt a problem at all. then you can swap summoners and buy jungle items even when you dont have smite at the time.

its just counterintuitive that accessability to jungle items is decided by what summoners you take into the game instead of the summoners you have equipped at the time.
