Why is there no "mana steal" ability or item!?

Counterplay being the chiefest of idols, we ought to have this option when being dominated by a caster.

I think an active item that would "remove 50% of max mana" or maybe even instantly deplete mana would be a great way to counter fed casters in team fights. Of course it would require careful balance, but i think it would add a fun element.

Everyone has Life - life steal is logical. Not everyone has mana - so mana stealing items would be a huge nerf to mana champs and a huge buff to resource / CD champs.

It once existed, but it oddly enough doesn't counter casters. Casters can build mana and mana regen. No one else does. As a result, damage to mana hurt everyone EXCEPT the mages so it was scrapped.

Not to mention the end-goal of burning mana is a very very long duration silence which is just not fun.

I can see a champion having a passive like "Spells cast by nearby enemy champions cost 15% more mana" being viable because it would slowly drain your enemy down during the laning phase, but that's about it. Personally, I think an anti-mage champion like that could actually be kinda cool.

No.

Depending on build, it will end being a 10+ seconds silence. How is_ that_ not broken.

If there is to be such a badly designed item, then there should be another one that negates energy recovery for 20s and makes manaless champions not being able to use abilities for 15s.

Haha, then even more people will complain about Kat :)

Becasue the old Wit's End was broken!!!!! Really, though, it was.

I think that would be more frustrating than fun, since it could easily be used to just shut down a losing teams snowballer.

Make it have AD and Armor Pen so that Zed can rush it as first item - lmao :D

All life steal does is make x% hp damage heal your hp. Mana steal would do the same, make x% hp damage heal your mp.

The way the old Wit's End worked was each auto attack stole an amount of Mana from that opponent and gave it to you up to a cap. I don't remember if it was a percent or a flat amount, but it was BROKEN.

It was not broken very few people used it back then for it to be 'broken'. It was always widely unpopular compared to other items.

Stealing 45 mana on hit for an item that only cost 600g was pretty insane on some fast AA's. I remember it getting abused a lot. It was, however, a lot weake rwhen they raised the price.

Because being the player stuck with just magically having no mana is so lame. Imagine how little there is for them to do about it. And it doesn't even work against a fed kat which is the biggest problem of all fed mages.

I don't know if anyone remembers but back in the days of Ezreal healing his allies, Kassadin used to be able to STEAL mana along with his silence. It was introduced as a new mechanic and Kass became one of the most infamous balance releases which has now caused this mechanic to be removed forever.
