Let's talk about the luck factor in League

People often state that the best way to improve is to carefully look at the mistakes you make and work to play better as a unit of the team. I don't agree with this notion. However, why do we never address the notion that there is indeed a luck factor in this game? This is a very skill-based game, I won't argue with that.

And when I say luck, I don't mean your team magically being better. I mean this; I've lost the last 8 games I've played and in those games I've watched what I've done very carefully. But there were many common factors in each of those losses that I observed. The last 2 games I lost had 1 or more of my teammates disconnect from the match. The last 6 losses were all due to 1 enemy lane or jungler snowballing out of control before I could do anything (i'm a jungle main). Most of these things weren't occurrences that I believe could be alleviated simply by skill or addressing my mistakes. These things were well out of my personal control, but I feel like these things have a lot to do with bad luck. I'm not on tilt, these losses were quite hilarious in how they happened hahaha. And the usual arguments among the team/flaming would usually broke out.

Just my 2 cents.

you can counterpick your laner, you can snowball your lane, but at the end of the day you arent going to penta the enemy team alone and you surely cant get your team into a ball of 5 and even aim their abilities at the enemy team just even in their general direction. then its just a lost game directly caused by 1 or 2 or in rare cases all 4 members who are all ignoring you and doing whatever else.

the ruling is you will eventually show your skill and climb, but thats just absurd playing upwards of 50 or more games at that rank because of luck or RNG of what team mates you get and whether or not they're playing to win.

i feel the struggle, its infuriating to play with people who make blatant mistakes which you would never do. but suck it up, we all go through it.

I actually agree. A part of this problem is that I play a lot blind pick (smaller queue times haha) but yeah.

Yes, it's much better to ignore what happened and do the exact same thing every time. I'M GONNA BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE LCS ANY DAY NOW WARWICK MID HERE I GO

That's not what I meant, I do think that can make you improve to a degree, but it's not the only thing when considering winning more. I personally focus on what I do and working with the team.

I don't think crying about bad luck makes you better at the game.

All I said is that I think there's a luck factor in the game, I wasn't crying?

You come in here and say there are other ways to improve at the game aside from examining how you play and looking for ways to improve it, then you talk about the bad string of luck you've had in your recent games. I can only assume that your method of improving involves venting about having leavers and such since you didn't ever seem to actually explain what your alternate method was.

Well I did say I emphasize being more of a team player. I focus on trying the bring out the strengths of my teams and snowball the game. Now does that count as crying or do I need to explain myself more?[slayer-jinx-wink]

You do because you still haven't explained anything. You've just described looking at your games and finding ways to improve how you play with your team, which was something you said you didn't agree with.

Ok I'll break this down literally the simplest way that I can.

People say the best way to improve is to look closely and the mistakes you make and your play style, and eventually those mistakes will stop occurring if you acknowledge them.

I partially disagree with this. League is a team based game, you win as a unit rather than 1 person changing the landscape of the game all the time. And honestly that advice is somewhat of a slippery slope. This game is to complicated for doing better to come from a solution like that.

My solution is to be a better team player.

The luck factor of league, in my personal opinion, comes in when you have 1 teammate disconnect for a whole game, or 1 lane snowballing out of control and that player not caring. A common trend i've seen in the last few games I played. That's the luck factor.

IS THAT GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU

TL;DR - My alternate method is to be a better team player.

It's because the things you can't control should happen for both sides. People act like this is a factor for them losing more games. It is a factor for both sides. Over a large sample size, toxicity is a constant that is equal for both sides.

So as far as climbing goes, it shouldn't matter. What should still matter is your skill. If you want to climb, carry harder. And if you want less toxicity on your side of the map, YOU be the catalyst for that by staying positive and playing your best. That's how you climb.

aye man I completely acknowledge that I'm not that good, hell i'm probably below average. I'm just saying that feel like theres more to my losses that being more positive and trying to carry. A lot of my losses felt more like the games were gone before I could make any impact xD

For sure! A lot of games are. And I think that Riot does everything they can to change it.

But... it's really hard to keep people honest and kind on the interwebs, especially in a competitive environment. The important thing to remember is that you also win lots of games because the other team had the whiny feeder.
