Frankly, as a Support main, I've just given up asking for a better role at this point. Riot isn't making any headway on "fixing" the role, but I feel the community is largely to blame for this. Just hear me out.
So, the Support role has been a hotly-debated role for a long time. On the one hand, it has low impact and doesn't have the power of other roles...Supposedly. On the other hand, a Support can literally make-or-break the laning phase for 3 people; bot lane, mid lane, AND your jungler, just with their presence. (A Support should be helping with counter-invades)
What Riot is going to do with it is up to them, but one thing is clear: The community doesn't know what they want with the role. I'm dead serious.
Riot buffed their items in an attempt to help increase their impact on the game, which is what the community wanted. What happened when they did this?
The community gets super angry that supports have good items with impact (cough Redemption cough) and demand the item(s) be gutted.
Conclusion: Give Riot a slap on the wrist when they need it, but stop acting like you people know what you're talking about.
I'm consistently the person who finishes my build first, who gets the most praise and who gets the S on our team. Support is NOT in a bad state right now, what the hell guys. Riot has done mental gymnastics to make Supports as relevant as possible, and in my opinion it's really worked. Last season, I actually felt like there was no point in picking enchanter supports. That's actually completely 180'd this season.
Carrying as a support hasn't felt easier for me since I installed this game.
so true. and i dont even play support. but amazing plays i reconize and if im fed when i adc/mid. most the time its because of my awesome plays by my support.
My grips with supports;
1; No or few scaling stats when those are needed for EVERY champion to transit into a good lategame.
2; No AD support itemization whatsoever in spite of the fact that it would greatly enhance the playable support pool.
3; No recognition, amounts for ally healed or damage shielded absent from endgame menu.
4; Weakest item pool of all champions, meaning supports can never stand up to non-supports.
Solutions;
1; Add more items like Ardent Censer which gives everything a support can possibly need. Less budget spent on actives or conditional stats (Locket/Knights's Vow), more constant stats. Increase support income, increase support item costs, increase support item efficiency. Bring them back to par with other classes.
2; Create a host of new AD items designed around supporting, my suggestion would be to transit every on-hit item with a shredding or incapacitating effect (Black Cleaver/Wit's End/Frozen Mallet) into that role, or at least create more support-y variants of these items.
3; Improve endgame screen with all the stats required, highlight high performance stats for every class (Damage for carries, damage taken for tanks, damage to turrets for pushers, damage prevented/healed, buffs and debuffs given for supports)
4; See 1.
My logic for this is simple. My two go-to supports are Leona and Sona. Sona with AP is a known powerhouse. Leona with actual tankiness can perform her diver job far more efficiently with items like Iceborn/Sunfire/Warmogs/Thornmail/Visage than with items such as Knight's Vow which won't give you it's full value unless a prerequisite is met, or an item like Redemption who lets you cast the active when dead, inherently implying that supports should spend a lot of grey screen time in fights. Supports are the only one who are given self-gimping items.
Boy do I feel ya.. I did get revenge on 1 person. I was playing Tahm (worst support to irritate and you'll see why), my team had a Veigar mid. The foolish Veigar thought he would call me retarded and a useless support because I wasn't going in with him into a fight that was a clear lose (2v4 with a fed Yi). So, I swallowed him and spat him right in front of the enemy. And told him why I did it too. Made him so mad..but I feel I was justified.
Did I forget to mention I have been playing support since joining LoL almost 2 years ago? I enjoy the role but the community is lacking (quite toxic).
this is why i start
if i play support :^)
if you are having this problem why do you claim to be a support main?
There's a reason I'm trying to learn Taric for Season 7. He can dish out some major 1v1 damage against squishies even with a support build - I was able to 1v2 a Camille and AP Zac the other day with the DPS he can dish out.
Stop acting entitled cuz you "main support". Srsly the adc gets all the fame and support all the flame? i've had enough supports that run in die and then start bitching at me for not facetanking the adc, supp and jungler.
You either get someone who occasionally plays support (like myself), an entitled support main, someone who thinks he can't supp cuz hurrdurr toplaner/midlaner (srsly half your champs CAN work as support) or rarely you get that one guy/gal who mains a certain support, and understands (s)he's worth just as much as the other people in her team.
You picked support, you picked soraka, you know she isn't very flashy, you know she's pretty bad in a 1v1 (if you go ap you can do something but most go tank anyway). So WHY do you expect people to suck your dick for healing them? You want recognition?
play 1of the 3 hook champs we have (
),
play an ap caster support (

...),
play a flashy support with very visible abilities (
)µ
You want to play an enhancer(it's what i personally call them idk what name riot gave em)?
then feel free to do so but understand it's not as visually impressive (though lulu is pretty noticeable and janna ult get's recognized when it's done great) and might slip under the radar for recognition.
Anyone in there right mind knows assists are important too, hell some people only look at that when talking about a support. I haven't had one botlane where we both said GJ after a kill/won fight. If you're doing as well as you said in your example i'm sure you're not trying to kill each other in lane and your adc will appreciate you saving his ass. just don't expect a thank you for every time you do your job. Or do you go to your teacher and tell him "hey man thanks for another great day of teaching, Thank You."? I don't think so. if you do tho, well that's very nice.
your only source of income is the assissts on the kills your adc got, THAT YOU MADE HAPPEN. remember when i was talking about Entitled support mains?
this comes from a guy with 220k points on jinx, 100k on Leona (though i also jungle her in normals), 60k on support naut. so i've spent atleast some time in either botlane role. all in all i think support is fine, if you main it you know you're not gonna be the star. if you want to play support champs and be the star of the game. well i'm sorry but i'll have to disappoint you, you don't wanna be a support main. Make the champ work in another lane if you really love them, it's not impossible hell i got lvl 6 Leona playing jungle. Though the new one isn't very friendly to her. [zombie-nunu-bummed]
tldr: stop acting like a spoiled brat cuz you main support. anyone can support, you're just as unimportant as the others on your team.
My problem with support is how fucking easy it is to fall behind and then stay behind. Supports are ridiculously XP starved, it's disgusting. I shouldn't be three levels behind the enemy mid laner starting from nine minutes and continuing to 30.
This is especially problematic for Sona, whose kit hits a huge spike at level 16.
Pretty exaggerated I NEVER see stuff like this.
tldr: compilation of support "mains" on Boards.
If I were that adc, first words out of my mouth would've been "Oh my god I love this support!". I used to play support a lot which is why I know the impact they had in skirmishes and I believe everyone should a bit just so they can see and appreciate their involvement.
This is really only relevant between Bronze III and Bronze XXVII
the typical "everybody blames the support" BS.
Support mains are the worst mains imo. they just think that they are perfect and make no mistakes.
in my games, i never see people flaming the support for their fed opponent. When Mid feeds, the whole team blames Mid for the loss. When Top feeds, the whole team blames Top for the loss.
I have never seen anybody just rage about their Sup randomly. usually Support mains are the worst flamers themselves from what i've experienced.
recently i see more Supports thrashtalking their ADC than the other way around.
why does every support player expect special treatment only because he plays support?
