what if there was a rune, that allowed champions without mana to utilize mana from items as a resource?

they would gain an actual mana bar (with items as their only source) and mana costs on their abilities when equipping the rune. (would probably be quite the balancing act to assign every champion without mana reasonable costs to the individual abilities, but could be worth the effort).

the mechanic would function similar to Renekton rage bar where they can still cast abilities when theyre out of mana. but if they have the mana to cover an abilities cost, it gets empowered in some way. like, say 10% increased damage.

technically this could work for mana champions too, just by increasing their base mana cost by like 50% or something for the extra effect. theyd have to be more careful though, since they could actually run out of mana.

fear my 6 Rod of the Ages Mordekaiser.

that sounds pretty fun. visually it might be a bit tricky to give the player information about how much mana he has, when the resource bar is already used for something else, like mordes shield. but im sure they could come up with something.

also Mordekaiser item 3800 item 3025

this is adding nothing but some extra damage

not interesting enough. this is like item 3043 working for non mana champs..

technically yes, but it would also make mana items more accessable to such champions.

the entire idea is really to make mana an effective stat on champions who use other resources or no resources. champions who normally dont benefit from mana on items would get some sort of benefit from it with the rune equipped.

Balancing nightmare for little-to-no real gain. Especially on several manaless assassins - they don't need to cast a lot after their initial combo, so this rune just gives them another way to increase their burst. Balancing them both for mana-path and old build path seems impossible - they would end up taking it always or never.

Balance nightmare, but would finally at least mean that Akali doesn't waste the mana when she buys item 3100.

Funny but nah.

Oh the balance hell would be hella fun to see but it's a neat idea. Doubt we'd ever see it just due to the massive demand it has.

because it's not enough that manaless champions don't have to deal with mana costs?

please, lets not pretend that mana champs still have to deal with mana costs after 1 or 2 items with item 1056 item 2033 and item 3165 around.

plus, riot has been reducing mana costs in a lot of champion kits over the years and even added mana refund mechanics to certain champion kits. like the most recent example Brand

mana management is barely a thing in this game anymore, and the advantage of playing a resourceless champion is small at this point, and practically nonexistent at 10 minutes into the game.

You're the one pretending, not me.

Wonder how this would be on Ryze.

This rune would just be too niche, since there are few manaless champions and even fewer who would consider building an item with mana on it. Riot doesn't want to make runes that only a handful of champions can actually use.

the main reason champions without mana dont want to build items with mana on them is exactly because of the wasted gold on the stat.

there are a lot of good items out there with mana on them, that mana less champions would at least occationally like to pick up, if the items werent less gold efficient for them.

someone already mentioned item 3100 for ap assassins like akali with energy for example.

i could see Rumble or Mordekaiser picking up item 3027 if mana wasnt a wasted stat on them.

i most definitely would like to pick up items like item 3025 item 3110 or item 3800 item 3078 more easily on garen. etc.

someone like Shyvana or Renekton would probably love to pick up some of these items aswell.

the major point of a rune like this would be to make mana items more accessable to champions who dont normally utilize mana.

as far as such a rune being nieche goes, that didnt stop them from making aftershock as a keystone rune that is only useful on a couple of champions and entirely inaccessable for a lot of fighters.
