New ap armor item

So this remains a problem. You can't make the item because it will break tanks buy what if the item had a high amount of armor that decreases armor while in combat and increased ap and regenerated armor and lost ap while out of combat or vice versa.

Moonflair Spellblade, and older item, remains the highest candidate to return to SR and become a new AP armor and magic resistance item.

new AP/ARMOR item.

80 AP. 60 Armor. 10% CDR, price around 2.8k gold.

and some defensive passive.

Good idea. Let's give mages 140 extra armor in their builds without needing to sacrifice AP. I can't see anything wrong with that.

Meanwhile AD's have 85 extra MR in their builds without needing to sacrifice AD along with a passive shield and a cleanse active through item 3156 item 3139. Not to mention item 3748 which lets them gain damage by building item 3102 item 3065 .

lets give AD champs armor pen and a lot of ad with defensive stats. and a shield

Papa Slothy1 votes

well, there isn't anything wrong with it considering how assassins can build both MR and tank items without losing too much damage

Nearly every mage fits Void into their core build, so enemies having MR isn't nearly that big of a deal. Almost no one builds LW outside of adcs, and good luck killing mages with 200+ Armor without one. Besides, you guys already have several AP+HP items available in addition to Zhonyas. If you can't make mages work with 3k health and 130 Armor, that's your problem.

Papa Slothy1 votes

well by MR i really mean hexdrinker and maw, the MR is nice BUT the shield is crazy

about the armor pen, HAVE YOU SEEN THE ASSASSIN BUILDPATHS, I main Zed and I play yasuo and I can safely say tanks are squishies until they get health

I understand that whole thing but when I play a Mage into an assassin, no matter how far ahead I am I have to outplay instead of just killing them brainlessly

Slamurai Jack1 votes

As you should because their class fundamentally counters yours. You shouldn't be 1v1ing assassins as a mage by that point anyway.

Hell, how do you think melee carries and bruisers feel against tanks? You're playing Riven against Malphite? You autolose the moment he has sunfire cape even if you were shitting on him before. That's literally exactly the same but I don't see any threads complaining about threads because these boards hate champs like Riven and Yasuo and love braindead tanks like Malphite and Rammus.

Papa Slothy1 votes

by what point?

Slamurai Jack1 votes

For the purposes of the conversation, let's say 1 & 1/2 items.

Papa Slothy1 votes

well yea I would have to outplay because the lead isn't so big that I could even have the damage to 1 shot

I was talking more about 2.5 items to 1.5

Slamurai Jack1 votes

Laning phase is definitely over by 2.5 items m8. At that point, expecting to still be able to 1v1 assassins just ins't reasonable.

Papa Slothy1 votes

I didn't say it was laning phase and being several levels up and an entire item should be enough to merit a successful 1v1

Slamurai Jack1 votes

And if you're not a teamfight oriented mage, it will be enough. Any mage with decent 1v1's will still easily beat an assassin with that much of a lead. But I have a feeling you aren't talking about those kinds of mages. Annie Diana Lulu Malzahar Swain Syndra Vladimir I have a feeling you're talking about these kind of mages.Ziggs Xerath Velkoz Veigar TwistedFate Lux Cassiopeia Azir Brand. If you want to pick those kinds of mages with strong poke and teamfighting, then expect to lose to more 1v1 oriented champs as the game goes on even with a significant gold lead. Yes, the Zed that's has 10k gold should be able to kill the Xerath with 12k gold 1v1 because the Xerath should not be getting caught in 1v1 situations at that point.

Papa Slothy1 votes

I was specifically talking about Ahri vs Talon, he survived my burst with the maw shield and managed to lifesteal during his lifeline for most of his health back

yea I get the Zed situation with 10 vs 12 because Xerath isn't a duelist, Ahri generally can duel fairly well

I understand your arguement that we don't want a weird tank mage hybrid, but late game a lot of assassins can 100-0 mages almost no matter what (unless it's a crippling loss or the mages have some form of cc to counter the mobility, I just want 1 item that can slightly extend my life in a teamfight beyond a talon or yi diving the backline while our cc is down

Slamurai Jack1 votes

How fast do you think those champions should be able to kill you in the event that they correctly go in when CC is down? Because you already have Zhonyas which gives you 2.5 seconds of invulnerability. These are still squishy melee champions we're talking about here; asking them to stick around for an extended period isn't really reasonable. And yes, they're still squishy even with the items they build now. A Master Yi with Steraks, Maw, and Dead Mans is still very squishy compared to real tanks or even real bruisers.

Papa Slothy1 votes

I agree with you that having a tanky mage is VERY toxic, but in it's current state AP itemization is just worse than AD in almost every way

Having some sort of battle mage item focused around helping immobile mages fight back against highly mobile assassins that can build slightly tankier or have some form or reposition, Master yi with rageblade and full tank can generally dive a mage and take them out or die with them, having an AP version of maw (gives a small shield and slightly increased armor+ap) would help immobile mages survive in a harsh environment, it could even have a longer cooldown than maw

I probably won't leave any more responses but I feel that mages could use an AP version of maw that gives SITUATIONAL tankiness instead of actual permanent armor and health, thx for debating and sharing your opinion [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

How about something that is good for that AP bruiser within us that allows us to be a little bit safer while sacrificing a little bit of AP? About 50 AP, 50 Armor, heck even some 50 MR just to feel safer...and maybe even a defensive passive like tenacity!

Oh, I even found an icon for it!~

item 3170
