"As the power of their keystones has converged"

From Riot: "Initially, we'd conceived of Domination as the “stronger keystone with weaker stats” tree and Sorcery as the “stronger stats with weaker keystone” tree. As the power of their keystones has converged, we're removing that stat distinction."

exactly

Riot's internal data probably shows them that the sorcery keystones are better.

Why is Arcane Comet the only rune that can miss its target? It was made for mages, but you can't even land it without a cc.

FutureCreator12 votes

Well to be fair you can miss Aftershock too.

SweedishGunner11 votes

You still get the bonus stats even if you miss the damage proc. You don't get squat if you miss Comet.

Mordepool10 votes

You can control where u are when it procs. Comets might as well be RNG

No, Kleptomancy is RNG, Comet is based on the position they were when you dealt spell dmg to them. Learn what RNG is pls.

Mordepool6 votes

It's unrealiable ASF might as well be Random Number Generated
With regards to if it hit or not.

lol, wiccan, the "joke"/point went over ur head xD. It's hyperbolic to emphasize the unreliability of comet

Wtf Sorcery Keystones are shit

dom keystones arent crazy either.

dark harvest takes a really long time to stack up, with most games not lasting very long.

predator is kindof good but incredibly easy deactivated even by random minion damage. the cooldown is also really long, and you dont have a keystone at least until your first back, when you pick up boots.

electrocute is really strong, but on a 50 second cooldown. you can fire 10 arcane comets in that time and probably still deal the same damage when 80% of them are missing.

hail of blades is kindof weird and very specialized. im finding it difficult to find applications for this.

id say out of all trees, sorcery and domination have the weakest keystones. though "weak" isnt entirely true either. theyre just very specialized towards specific champions (like arcane comet is good on morgana or zyra and trash on malzahar).

Ęsdeath4 votes

I agree with your points except for electrocute. You forget to mention it is not relatively easy to bring up 10 arcane comets in 50 seconds. And since 1 second or 2 can make all the difference in this game, I wouldn't talk about Electrocute's power around level 1 (except for Swain: He can proc it with one E + Passive + AA; and a few others) but more around level 3 when it is 47.1 (v.s 19) seconds cooldown and deals 70 damage (ignoring base stats coming from the rune path - Which has just gotten stronger).

Electrocute is kind of broken, it is not balanced in most aspects and "50" seconds are not going to fix any of this; what I think is worse, is the fact you can just put an ignite and get one stack into Electrocute ... that's simply stupid and probably the worst because you literally get even more damage (true, in this case). Electrocute is quite overpowered compared to Dark Harvest, Hail of Blades (shouldn't even be a keystone) and Predator, plus I believe its power should get tuned down a little bit - Not to mention the slight delay it has when you hit 3 abilities, is even worse.

Hail of blades is pretty good on champions that need to stack up something like rageblade or a ramping steroid like jax's/tahm's passive.

It's pretty good on yi too as you get 5 autoattacks off in the effective span of two. It makes his gank much more deadly, though late game conquerer's is better.

The awkward thing is that it's mostly sustained damage dealers that want it and it's in the dom tree

kindof?

but lethal tempo is even better. it takes a while to ramp up, but allows you to maintain the attack speed much longer, and break attack speed cap when you already have rageblade stacked up. so you get the most value out of it.

the only time id take hail of blades is with champions like Mordekaiser to get his q off super fast. or other champions with 3 hit abilities that are on a very long cooldown. there arent many of those around.

Wrong Electrocute exists. Phase rush is the exact reason I hate Sorcery Keystones. It's weak asf the speed it supposed to give Is weaker than FF at every point of the game. Comet a keystone that can miss YAY! Also comet dmg is meh Aery the I guess I have to pick something keystone

4th Sorcery Keystones. 404 Error keystone not found

Don't know why im getting downvoted for a fact, read the patch notes...

Domination users are stealing our Sorc culture. First ult hat and now our stats too. They love to take our things and claim it as their own, but they still hate us. And people say we are in a post-meta world.

most peopel didn't take Ult Hat in sorcery anyways

big boi edri1 votes

Apparently most of the boards did, because they threw a fit when it got moved.

I've tried running it on Wukong, but it just doesn't feel like it outweighs the movement speed boost from the same branch. In the sorcery tree, it didn't outweigh mana flow band or the magic shield (depending on matchup), much less any of the other runes in the tree.

Honestly, save for a few champs, ultimate hat has never really seemed great to begin with. Don't know why all the fuss.

Mordepool2 votes

I can't speak for anyone else But I ran it on Morde every game

Tormentula3 votes

There was a number of things that took ult hat.

Evelynn Nocturne Skarner Karthus Leblanc Kassadin

+more but I'm not sure if they exclusively took ult hat like they did.

Evelynn is even taking ultimate hunter atm to make up for it.

Well, think that way: You are no longer reliant on casting your ult to stack it. You can now stack it off kills.

I say that because it is especially relevant for Karthus, because the base cooldown of his ultimate is incredibly high, by the time he could fully stack Ultimate Hat, the game was probably over. Now you can potentially fully stack if even before you get the ultimate.

Tormentula2 votes

Yea, in one way it was good, in another it was bad.

You can stack it up before you gets your ult now atleast, but for junglers like Evelynn it did cut into their map presence a little bit by forcing them to pick between ultimate and relentless.

It also limits options in the sorcery secondary tree (celerity and waterwalking, if you're playing against nid or elise go null.)

Granted eve is pretty bullshit so she doesn't see to be struggling from the change either way.

AirKingNeo1 votes

Eve, Nocturn, Skarner, and Leblanc already went Domination anyways.

Karthus didn't take it. Kassadin is pretty much the only loser.

Teridax6823 votes

I have a hard time understanding that design logic: was Sorcery intentionally designed to offer crap keystones? Why would one ever even want to create that kind of power distribution between runes and stats? Even if the keystones from both sets were at equal power levels, they certainly don't feel that way at the moment, so why even aim for runes with unequal power in the first place?

NahDogSolRahn21 votes

because RITO's poor little assassins can't kill fast enough and those mean immobile mages are hogging mid-lane.

La Bello30 votes

as someone who LOVEs playing assassin being forced into getting this same damn Keystone on literally EVERYONE pisses me off actually.

you have no idea how badly I wanna try Predator Zed, Hail of Blades Diana, or Conq Fizz and Phase Rush Ekko. but guess what I have to take instead.

every

single

time

Its just sickening tbh that Riot allows such a rune to exist... more damage for the sake of more damage..... Riot shouldve took a lesson from Call of Duty and the whole Stopping Power problem. I dont think the design team sat up and made a bunch of different cool perks just to instead have everyone default to stopping power yet Riot fell into the same trap.

do not EVER give players the choice between a interesting utility that requires imaginative though or just a braindead damage increase. People will choose the damage increase 8/10 times I swear to god.

ImGodlyatYasuo1 votes

Would you rather one shot someone or have them slowed by 50% so you can get off your second rotation for a two shot? Predator isn't much different from electrocute either (just ms and instant proc with higher cd and active period(so planning)) conq is for extended trades so it working on assassins is a huge problem, hail of blades is just really bad, and phase rush isn't effective on someone like ekko simply because why would i need ms when i can one shot them before they can run away

TyroneWatermelon17 votes

Honestly imo Electrocute is the most overpowered and uninteractive keystone in the game and is the reason why assassins and gank junglers dominate.

SweedishGunner8 votes

Yeah somehow they managed to make TLD version 2 and made it more overpowered.

It's like they almost forgot last year's League of Thunderlords when making Electrocute.

Madsin2515 votes

Dam son that nerf on aery and +10% MS buff on phase rush level 1 sure did close that gap.

If anything sorcery has gotten weaker.

Also they nerfed scorch and buffed cheap shot.

Pika Fox4 votes

So i take it electrocute is the new thunderlords? Everyone thinks its OP when the reality is its not even remotely OP and just average?

Nuparu2 votes

It does damage and it's taken on Assassins, and this is boards, so yeah.

Auz the Ripper6 votes

The problem is that there's no trade off or required set-up. It's just a hunk of damage for something everyone does anyway.

Its not op... but i think this Keystone sucks. As assassins/divers your forced to pick it.

Xurreal3 votes

Keystone just change how you play and what you do to secure victory. They are all effects in some way that enhance your performance. You can switch up the style based on your matchup and throw your opponent off after the first wave because your alternate style might be a first time for them to see.

Aside from the ones that require Crowd Control effects, everyone can use every Keystone effectively if they play into the keystone, and aren't trolling.

Madsin259 votes

Yea sure you can use whatever keystone you want and go fulfill that fantasy. Go fizz kelptomancy and show the world what your made of.

You will have a whole 15 seconds to ponder what your next wildest dream will be when the insert electrocute abuser here sends you home packing.

BIFF6 votes

I agree. Not all runes/jeystones are created equal.

The statement "Everyone can use every keystone effectively" is false. Example: Zilean with lethal tempo, nami with dark harvest, heimerdinger with hail of blades etc.

all of the Keystones fit niche roles as was laid out in the design (hence the different trees) the issue here is that some trees have recieved well thought out buffs and reworks ( precision, resolve to a lesser extent domination) while others have been neglected or nerfed due to poor scaling ( sorcery and inspiration [is this tree even still in the game?]).

I think the better question is: does the overall neglect of certain trees reflect riots desire to push the meta and the game in a certain direction?

SanKakU1 votes

Kleptomancy is just a bad keystone. Not anything a champ pick can change.
