So what's up with AP tank scaling?
For lack of eloquence and proper articulation, I'm just gonna give it to you straight. Here's the info which I trust most people can read and understand the problem.
Tanks are primarily designed to peel, cc, and generally tank against the opponents while contributing a bit of damage along the way. So what's the problem I'm talking about? Many tanks, namely AP tanks have high base damages and pretty high scalings to boot. This was likely designed so the little AP they build is meaningful, and really contributes to their damage. The problem here inlies when they build primarily or full damage.
Just to name a few, can dish out ludicrous damage when built primarily AP. Now before you say "But they're squishy when they do that" You're right! But let's stop comparing them to tanks, and instead compare to mages.
The majority of these champions have abilities that scale with 60-100% ability power. (Excluding amumu's cry, and cho's auto spikes.) Furthermore, their bases are on par with many of those usual to the mid lane.
Which have base damages from about 100-260 and 280 in rare cases. I don't know if there is any serious issue, but I have noticed with the release of
more people are building their junglers full AP. Now these guys can be eliminated by a bruiser/fighter in a 1v1, their large amounts of AOE and newfound burst will destroy squishies and carries.
Again, I could be overreacting and numbers aren't everything. But could this possibly warrant some deeper investigation into the subject? I think we're all done with tanks doing significant damage, and this has only exacerbated the existing problem. If you don't buy this, please take a look at the damages yourself, I'm interested in what everyone finds.
TL;DR AP Tanks, primarily junglers when built full AP do damage tantamount to that of midlaners in almost every aspect.
pre rework) Just to name a few melee AP midlaners
