I never liked that they made cho damage scale with health

Big Lincoln··92 votes·4,470 views

and now we see that when he's finally playable he's OP, because instead of the AP bruiser days of old he can go full tank and still have immense kill pressure with stoneplate with no trade-off

infinitely scaling % damage was a terrible idea too.

remove %hp damage from ult increase AP ratio

that's all he needs to be back at 50% win rate from 58%

stoneplate ult is the most broken interaction i ever saw in this game "hahahha but just don't get catch by cho"

yeah, i love how as a melee i can't get to the fight because being near cho will make me taking 2400 true damage, which is just like nearly 60% of my hp

AirKingNeo5 votes

Change stoneplate to count as "Base HP" instead of "Bonus HP" so Locket Stoneplate 500-1000 shield dies.

Ahristocats2 votes

except that even without stoneplate, cho ult scaling with HP is still a problem but you can try to fixe stoneplate first i guess

AirKingNeo1 votes

Maybe? But it is a good first step.

its far more than 1k health. ive seen the tooltip show 1600 shield on a 16 stack chogath.

and thats without stoneplate activation.

AirKingNeo1 votes

First steps man.

Fefnil1 votes

Or simply make the damage reduction count for true damage, since that's the most logical solution. Why should I use Gargoyle's offensively if it's entire point is to halve the damage I take and more than halve the damage I deal to deter carries from buying it?

AirKingNeo1 votes

How does that remove bullshit 1k Locket shields?

Fefnil1 votes

How is that bullshit? The first true form of defensive "fuck you" after 2 seasons of damage creep and snowballing can only be welcomed.

AirKingNeo1 votes

Damage has been equally creeped up and much as tankiness. Only bruisers are left in the dust.

sutora37 votes

which mele champion that isnt a tank has 4400 hp?

Ahristocats4 votes

any juggernaut in this game

and Vladimir who's basically an AP juggernaut with 500 range, but he wants to be in the middle of the fight

and btw, if you have 3000 hp that's more than 60% of your hp

Can you tell me were he has a 58% winrate I dont know what site you all are using.

Profirix2 votes

He has got close to a 55% win rate on lolalytics.com but never a 58%

Shablagoo4 votes

Whats the playrate because on op.gg it says he has a .79% playrate in jg and 5% on lolgraphs? If so he is similar to skarner the best cho plays are playing him

Megagon2 votes

57.1% winrate Jungle cho'gath, nobody gives a fuck about top lane cho gath, actually they do but not enough fucks

Shablagoo2 votes

Plz show me the page and also tell me the playrate man you cant just spit out stuff without showing where u got it.

Megagon1 votes

I'm sorry if i sound rude when i say this, but please use your god damned eyes and look at the same page you linked http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/chogath/diamond

Look at "ROLES" AND BELOW THAT you see the jungle cho'gath winrate.

http://champion.gg/champion/Maokai/Jungle Is Mao also op? http://champion.gg/champion/Zilean/Middle Zilean too? You need to understand that playrate is a huge factor, if a champion has a small playerbase it means the best of the best cho's are playing him and succeeding. If his playrate was 10-20% then it would make sense to complain but the mains are the ones doing the best so it makes sense also the top DIAMOND Cho players too. If it jumps to 10% then u can complain on the boards dont jsut come and complain without puttting the playrate because its really misleading and leads to ppl just riding a bandwagon for a champion they probably didnt like regardless of his winrate.

Megagon1 votes

But the thing is cho'gath really is op cho'gath is a monster rn

Shablagoo1 votes

Ok sure man but dont use statistics to mislead ppl, its just not right

Megagon1 votes

I'm not though cho'gath jungle has a 1.98% pick rate lol

You trolling? Champion.gg shows Cho having under a 48 percent win rate in top and mid, while http://lolalytics.com/champion/Chogath/ shows that the top Cho players in the world have a 41.67 percent win rate over the past 7 days. It only has 12 games to analyze which means even Cho mains aren't playing him.

Big Lincoln3 votes

lolalytics is bugged and showing a lot of champ 'mains' having very low winrates

Arc Atlas3 votes

Lol, that coupled with champion.gg stats still complately counter that guys claim that Cho is sitting at a 58 percent win rate. He can't even get past 50 percent in lane.

Big Lincoln4 votes

look at jungle

Arc Atlas2 votes

Win Rate 43.33% 43 / 43 0

So you clearly didn't look at the stats, otherwise you'd know he's the worst jungler in the game currently.

Escheton25 votes

He was always like this. Able to go full Tank or AP or a mix of it. And his ult has always been scary. But the meta moved forward and Cho didn't (he's quite slow). So they updated him. That really all there is to it.

Those that complain simply forgot Cho existed because he wasn't very viable or fun.

Profirix7 votes

Sad part is, with all these people complaining, Riot will likely over-nerf him and then he will go back to being fodder.

Pale Pirate1 votes

But cho was viable wasn't he? item 3030 Was enough to make him a threat. And he has an instant silence.

Sexy Jack Rabbit5 votes

The silence used to be when it proc'd the silence upon pressing the button. Like Annie W.

Now it procs after the spell has casted.

I think making stoneplate reduce true damage might be enough to balance him.

Oh shit, you're right. That thing is supposed to reduce 60% of damage but Cho's an exception for some reason. That'd take off a big chunk of burst before even touching the ratio.

RavenMagus6 votes

He's an exception because true damage is an exception. True damage is never supposed to be reduced by anything in the game (that's why it's 'true damage').

Honestly the stoneplate should just give a shield. Giving actual HP just leads to stupid absurd combos like Cho'gath or Locket.

There are some things that reduce true damage though, its weird but ninja tabi reduces on hit spells, so it'll reduce something like Irelia's W true damage. So I wouldn't be surprised if Gargoyle took priority over true damage. Even if it doesn't, Cho prob should have his R reduced by it at least, its not like Olaf's E where its neglibable whether its debuffed or not, Cho's R is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge nuke.

RavenMagus1 votes

Are you sure about that?

Nothing on the wiki mentions that Ninja Tabi's damage reduction works on Irelia, and no other form of damage reduction works on true damage at all. Alistar ult doesn't work, Exhaust doesn't work, Braum's shield doesn't work. It also can't be amplified by masteries (like Assassin or Double-edged Sword) or abilities (like Swain's thingie or Vlad's ult).

The only thing you can do against true damage typically is block the attack completely (spell shields or Pantheon shields).

...I'd go test it but I can't put boots on the target dummies...

I know it reduces magic damage on hits and a couple youtubers did breakdowns on stuff ninja tabi reduces, so unless it was misinformation or Riot turned that off, anything that applies on a basic attack that is flagged by the game as a basic attack is reduced by the passive, to my knowledge.

Edit: Here's one video that mentions it https://youtu.be/Q0K1TjELxfs?t=2m35s

Having trouble finding it anywhere else. Might be worth a test at some point, might be misinformed.

RavenMagus2 votes

The video sounds unsure about it, but assumes it does because it's an auto attack modifier.

I would, on the other hand, assume it doesn't because it's true damage. Riot has been systematically removing any sort of ability that modifies true damage dealt or taken in any way.

LiteUpSketchers2 votes

I could not agree with this more. As a Cho main I feel like nerfing his E is the wrong way to go, because it really restricts the items Cho can buy. I don't really understand why it doesn't do this already.

Salson12 votes

Buffing a outdated champ is always a great idea.

Not like Nunu jumped to over 55% winrate, not like Singed had to be hotfixed in 2 days, not like Malza has 55% and no one gives a fuck.

Maybe it's Rito's way of reminding us that there are worse things than Yasuo out there.

LeBlanc Rose1 votes

Malzahar actually had a recent rework. 2 in fact.

TeemoXNidalee8 votes

That's not what makes him OP, he is OP because his ult always outdamages smite. It was balanced due to the fact that his clear used to be shit, but now his E deals %hp damage, making him super fast at killing monsters/dragon/baron and securing with his ult.

ChaosThief2 votes

I mean, his clear would be pretty bad if you didn't max E. Personally I found that the way to go.

With his new E I imagine it would be faster though since it does more damage at a burst.

BobaFlautist7 votes

It's only a huge threat if you're a squishy melee, and if you're a squishy melee you really should have the tools to avoid him.

Squishy ranged champions shouldn't let a champ like cho get on them anyway, if they do they would've died to any juggernaut basically.

Tanky melees get fucked over even more by Garen deciding they're an enemy of demacia, which I always thought was a dumb interaction.

Jackom15 votes

Darius Garen

If rito wants to make him an AP juggernaut, they should at least lower the range of his Q and the slow.

My Heartshaker5 votes

His Q is already hard enough to hit as it is (delay, self-cc), removing part of the reward for hitting his Q is a bad idea.

Jackom15 votes

Point is, rito said they want cho to become another juggernaut, so a champion who has high damage despite building almost full tank. But it's just too much to give a single champion high tankiness, high damage, and ranged cc (his Q). Sooner or later they'll have to take away something. Or, for now, they could lower his base stats (they are quite high at the moment), so that he's weaker in early game so that he has a harder time scaling into the monster he is now.

Meep Man4 votes

Cho's OP? I'm confused. When did this happen? What position? Why? Where? When? I haven't experienced this sudden eruption of Cho'Gath being OP.

Everywhere I check, I see anywhere from a 52-54% win rate, but with a 4% or below play rate, meaning very few players are playing Cho that aren't experienced with him. Where is your evidence that he is OP?

Big Lincoln2 votes

60% winrate in the jungle atm
