You guys took Akali, a champ who right now is the stat check version of an assassin, with very limited ability to "outplay" anyone, and have attempted to address these issues so as to reduce how stat-checky she was and give her tools to make plays when behind.
Bravo. Seriously, after 8+ years it is great to have the problems of older champs addressed and to remove the stat-check elements that still exist in this game (looking at you
)
The problem is, you asked "how can we give this champ more outplay potential" and stopped your design team at that phase. Cry OP and let loose the CertainlyT of design balance.
Akali is now ALL outplay potential, so much so that her opponents have no real way to counter her play. Her old problem of being immobile?? She now has 2 target-less dash skills, both of which have a double cast mechanic. TRUE MUTHA FUCKEN STEALTH. Stealth has always been a polarizing and hard to balance issue, with items and mechanics brought in to balance stealth it, and has only been passed in number of reworks and overhauls by Ryze. Now akali can literally sit under a tower for 5 seconds and the tower will not attack her as long as she remains in her shroud. How are immobile mages/ADC/tanks/juggs/bruisers supposed to play against this new akali? Her entire kit is "muh outplay" with her constantly dashing in and out of combat with her opponents to trigger large burst damage. Her dash speeds are quick, and she has multiple casts of these.
Try again Riot. You can stick to the skeleton of what you have already created, but having a champ dash in and out of combat constantly is going to be another case of something that is exceedingly hard to balance properly, especially at lower elos. True stealth? Dumpster it. In fact, dumpster the word "True" from your balance and design teams. True damage, true stealth, CertainlyTrue BS. An "uncounterable mechanic" has no place in a multiplayer game. Limit her dashes, for instance only giving her the second cast of her ult if she lands the first.
Just before you release this champ, take about 5 business days to playtest AGAINST her with a multitude of champions and see how "fun and enjoyable" it is to play against a champ whose entire kit is based around outplaying whatever her opponent is trying to do
