PSA: op.gg is WRONG right now.

For everyone with these "but I won X number of games, lost Y number, but my MMR went down" and "op.gg said I would get placed at X division, but I got placed at Y!" just stop.

The MMR tool on op.gg is just flat out wrong right now. It never was 100% accurate to begin with, but it would get you into the right ballpark. However, with the soft reset its completely useless and almost always completely wrong. Maybe once things settle down in a month it'll be back to being a good guess, but not right now.

So please stop making threads about the op.gg MMR/Placement tool. Do you honestly think your MMR went down right after you won 5 games in a row? C'mon people.

Even if the MMR tool is wrong it doesn't tell you what you'll be placed.

OP.gg said I was likely to be placed in Plat 3. I played Flex, finished my 10 games and got thrown in Plat 4. Maybe it's pretty accurate for flex? I got a Gold 4 placement in Solo/duo

More likely it was just chance. If it normally has a 70% chance of being fairly accurate, and the change made it a 30% chance, then it is still going to be accurate on occasion.

(Numbers are entirely made up for the example above.)

it predicted s4 for me when i was at 9 games, i won the last one and got placed s3 seems accurate

Still, that's pretty anecdotal. We'd need an actual sample size, preferably from a non-biased poll (which is practically impossible to achieve, tbh) with multiple people to determine a trend and test OP's claim.

The prediction on placements seems fine, it's just after placements it seems to have no idea.

To be expected, it's still early season. Op.gg needs to have a sufficient, stable and reliable data pool to be accurate. It can't make predictions as long as we still have a fair sized number of players who are still getting through placements, where they will be placed in positions different than their final skill level.
