Nocturne seems messy as a champion

Don't get me wrong. I love Nocturne, and he is one of my favorite champion to play, but it feels like Nocturne wants to do what so many champions can already do. He wants rapid, sustained damage when he fights, just like Master Yi. He wants to create presence from long-range, like Pantheon. He wants to be able to kill someone from the fog of war, like Vi, Kha'zix, and Rengar. He wants to fight like a bruiser, but he also wants to be an assassin.

Consequentially, Nocturne seems confused on what he wants to do. He wants be almost like a Jack of All Trades, but his abilities seem to be outclassed. If you want to have sustained damage, Yi outclasses Nocturne. For a long-range ability, there is Pantheon, who has a larger range of impact. For jumping out of nowhere, you have Vi, Kha'zix, or Rengar, who insta-gibs whereas Noct takes a few seconds. For bruisers, we have Jarvan or Trundle, who have natural tankiness. For assassins, we have Vi, Kha'zix, and Rengar, who can assassinate much better.

I just feel like Nocturne should have a defined strength OR a few tweaks to his kit, like maybe a bit more damage, better reliability on his CC, improved Spell Shield, or longer range or lower CD on his Ult. He's just outclassed in several ways, and I think it'd be nice to show a little bit of love fear for our nightmare.

He's a weaker version of Rek'Sai basically. Weaker Utility, Weaker Global Map Pressure, Weaker CC, Weaker DPS.

The only thing Nocturne has on Rek'Sai is slightly stronger chase potential.

In S4 feral flare meta Nocturne was actually a top tier jungler in LCS, being the only flare jungler that could keep up with unnerfed Kha'Zix, Elise and Evelyn, while beating Xin Zhao easily. The problem is the jungle changes, since now his sustain and AOE is no longer enough to farm fast and the respawn times means that he can't stack devourer early game that well. Also, devourer has NO stats other than the on-hit damage, while Wriggles at least had AS, AD and some sustain, meaning that Nocturne now has to buy a vamp scepter to sustain rather than just sit on wriggles. The loss of Feral Flare ward also badly hurts him, as now he can no longer solo-kill squishies in their own jungle by warding from far away then ulting onto them.

He needs to interact more with his Q trails and kit in general

  • Give E a bonus effect on his trail
  • Q losing the increased AD for WAY more MS would be interesting
  • Have his passive reduce faster with autos on his trails and make the damage, heal and aoe larger and scale in effect based on number of units hit
  • Have trails attach themselves to monsters
  • Have trails give true sight of the target if he is standing on their respective trail
  • Remove a lot of his R damage but have it so he attaches an E to everyone near his landing destination and casting his R creates a trail behind everyone
  • Make his E Total AD physical damage and have it apply an on-hit effect each .5-1 second instead of just boring magic damage

More thematic stuff is always better

any champ that requires you hug your enemies to death is weak in this mobility meta

its cuz he was nerfed to high heaven due to the feral jungler era

which was nerfed anyway cause warwick. Noc hasn't seen much play or an average win rate since flare got nerfed, and before that, he was in the same boat. The buffs they've given him are incredibly minor. The buff to his shield is extremely matchup dependent. There's not a ton of champs that not only have on hit effect spells, but also have no form of cc you'd rather block. The thing with feared enemies was necessary since noc got screwed by the fear changes. Fear is still awful for ganks since most enemies just flash out of it, meaning you have to gank twice to get a kill, and even if you do get the fear, they still move toward their tower.

He already recently received a reliability buff on his fear. His spell shield already both passively and actively increases his attack speed what more do you want one spell to do? Nocturne already has enough damage, he doesn't need more either. His ult definitely could use a buff. The reach is so short that he can't even outrange the typical trinket ward, it's cooldown is also way too long for it's current effect. They need to increase the range so he can start being a threat to the enemy team at level 6.

Noc's problem is that he doesn't have a way out. A lot of champs have good aspects on their kits. Hell, urgot is a stupid strong lane bully. It doesn't mean he's not eclipsed most of the way across the board by champs like panth, yi, and rek sai.

What Nocturne has that's relatively unique is that he's not an assassin, and he's not a walking bruiser either. He's a surprise fighter- he can jump in from anywhere and take that person out, while dealing plenty of damage within a team. He's more unstoppable than most mobile guys, due to his quick ult from literally any direction, making it really hard to interrupt (If it's even possible, I've never seen it happen). Even after, he's hard to stop because of his spell shield, and so can just eat whatever CC you throw at him in addition to his speed buff from q.

The only thing Nocturne needs is less CD on his ultimate. 3 minutes CD for a ''global'' ultimate on such a low range at level one is FUNNY AS HECK. Not to mention that his ultimate is still bugged as damn...Sometimes it clearly deals NO damage at all and even if it does, damage is so low.

Just compare his ult with a summoners teleport. Teleport is also on a 3 minute CD but id doesen't have a range and you can teleport everywhere if your team places a ward but as Nocturne, it's just LoL.....Range is so low at 1st 2 levels of R, + same CD as teleport. I don't really think it's fair.

Either increase the range or reduce the CD by A LOT.

Maybe they could add more vision denial mechanics to his kit to make him more interesting? Like maybe whoever gets feared by his E will be temporarily blinded (Like Teemo and Quinn's blinds) when it ends and if someone is hit by his Q then their vision range gets reduced while it's attached to them?

Noc has a couple of big problems atm, but to name a few:

His jungle sustain is awful. Riot really shit in his oatmeal on this one.

He has no way out of a fight aside from killing everything. This is unlikely.

His ability to stick to anything is invalidated by every form of mobility in the game.

It's extremely hard to justify him as a pick because he needs primary initiation support which normally comes from the jungle. He can perform this role, however, if an orianna is prepared to follow up with a shock wave.

His level 1 ult his gimped in both range and cd. They could have nerfed one, but having a global ult cooldown on an ability with 2000 range at rank 1 is fucking stupid. Panth gets 5500 range from rank 1 with a lower cd, and trust me, the vision passive is barely relevant. A pick is still a pick, and the enemy team can usually guess at who noc is going for if they're in range to peel him.
