Ezreal has the second lowest win rate in Plat+ games

Tell me again that he doesn't need buffs. Please, I'd love to hear that "I'm bad", or the data comes from bronze players. I'll admit I used lolking a lot in the past, but now I know that it's not just bronze players who play him poorly. Apparently everyone (even high ELO games) is just bad with Ezreal.

Ezreal's an interesting champion because of how diverse he can be. Want to play ADC? Go for it. Want to go APC? Go for it. You can build almost any damage item and have it work with him.

Consequently, it's harder to balance him. If you change his W to make it more useful for AD Ezreal, you risk buffing AP Ezreal into crazy OP status or nerfing it horribly. I know AD Ezreal is the way most people prefer to play him, but I'm one of those AP Ezreal fans, and would be very sad if his viability got destroyed.

There is only one good way to build ezreal, and that's AD ezreal. AP ezreal will ALWAYS be inferior to AD ezreal, even in urf mode. You forget that auto attacks are half your damage, and that he has 550 range. AP ezreal is just a waste of his potential. It's a troll build at best.

To each their own. I feel like ignoring the 80% AP scaling on your W, the 75% scaling on your E, and the higher damage potential on your Ultimate via AP scaling is a waste. Then again I have a hard time sitting still and auto attacking people to death, preferring to sling spells around every chance I get. I might also be biased by the games I get ahead, E-W-Q into a squishy and have them deleted instantly.

For the record, I played AP Ezreal maybe once on URF, have just over 100 games on him, and have a win rate of 52.94% over all, with a 60% win rate on my last 20 games with him (not counting the URF match). You can argue that AP Ezreal doesn't hold up at higher elos, but for where I am, it works fine.

Try another source.

That's still REALLY low. At least 100 other champs are doing better than him.

Using na.op.gg as the source:

  • 3rd lowest ADC in Plat (46.10% win rate) over the last 7 days
  • 3rd lowest ADC in Diamond (45.91% win rate) over the last 7 days
  • 3rd lowest ADC in Plat (46.63%) over the last Month
  • 4th lowest ADC in Diamond (47.03%) over the last Month

Compared to champion.gg as the source:

  • 2nd lowest ADC in Plat+ (46.38%) average on patch 5.7 (9 days ago)

Both sources imply that Ezreal's having a bit of trouble keeping up with the rest of the pack. Now, you can argue the reasons (current meta, needs buffs, fools keep playing him AD instead of AP), but at the end of the day this is where he's at right now.

I guarantee Ezreal's win rate would go up by at least 2-3% if people just stopped building tear on him.

Tell that to all the diamond+ players doing it. Are you saying that they're also building him wrong? You keep saying that I/we are bad with ezreal, but you're talking about stuff that very high ELO players are doing. Maybe if they're just give him some damn mana buffs people wouldn't be forced to build tear. People will still be able to dodge his skillshots, or hide behind a tank if that's too hard.

Diamond+ players are working with the exact same meta we are, and they conform to it just like we do, until someone innovates. Hecarim top? Basically trolling, until people showed it worked, and then it was suddenly OP. Nautilus support? Questionable pick to contested pick, all because Lemonation did it. Smite TP top lane with cinderhulk? Sounds retarded, until someone does it with Shyvana and carries his team.

So yes, I am saying that diamond+ players are wrong when they build tear, or rather, there are other better options. Building tear into manamune loads all of Ezreals power into his midgame, where he is already strongest, and dampens his late game, which is already his weakest. I personally find it much better to get Triforce, Essence Reaver, CDR boots, and then traditional adc items. It gives you all the mana you could possibly need, still gives very strong poke, and auto attacks that can actually do something late game. If you're on a team where you don't have to be the main damage source and don't have to compete in lane, I think Muramana and perhaps even full blue build can be fine. But if you need to really carry, and burn through the enemy tanks, Muramana is awful. Muramana isn't going to burn through that 5k hp Sejuani, but IE, PD, and LW might.

No they're not. The meta is different in high elo games. I'm not going to explain why they buy tear, but after watching several high ELO games I understand why it's done. Ezreal isn't as effective as other late game adc's, but it's what Ezreal needs in his current state. He shouldn't be so mana hungry all game.

Ezreal has 2 ways he can solve his mana issues. The first, and the most popular, is to build an early tear that eventually turns into a Muramana for a poke focused, mid game spiking build. The other is to build Essence Reaver for a more mobile, more auto attack based, mid-late game build. Most people prefer the first, and I've been known to go down that path from time to time. But I highly prefer the second build, because it means I actually have a late game while still having a solid mid game.

The idea that Ezreal is weak late game is a silly notion that exists only because people almost always build him around his poke rather than his auto attacks. Build Ezreal as a poke oriented AD caster with Manamune and you are going to feel the power drop off late game. Build Ezreal with a bunch of CDR, AS, and Crit, and you have an extremely shifty late game adc that still does tons of damage because you actually built like an adc.

I do plenty of damage with blue ezreal late game. Just get bortk + LW and I find that I immobilize and shred most tanks.

Ezreal is "bad" in terms that he can't actually just go in and hope to win, unless he is super fed, in which case it doesn't matter. He is different because he is one of the few ADC's with actual poke, allowing him to both do damage and farm from relative safety without endangering himself. This strength is also his weakness. If he doesn't poke down his opponents or misses his Q's in fights, his damage output drops significantly. He isn't as auto reliant for his damage output as other champions.
