Is starting corrupting pot really that much better than dorans?
I've observed a lot pro players and koreans that take only a corrupting pot for their first buy. I know about the extra 15 damage but is it really worth it over dorans?

Dorans what?
Shield or ring?
Ring. A lot of players have been taking it on champs like Ekko and Aurelion Sol
depends on the champion tbh. someone like ekko needs it just for the sustain because more likely than not you're going to get poked out hard while trying to cs, and that refillable sustain will save so much time.
the benefits of starting
over
is you get more hp and mana from it early on and they usually are taking the biscuit mastery with it which increases the duration of heal/mana . so its more gold efficient and it refills every time they base... and if you will watch depending on the lane is going on their 1st back they will often get dorans ring or dark seal which dark seal passive
+25% healing from potions with the ap boost (and stacking ) and the flat mana +100 with the biscuit mastery gives them more for the gold then a dorans ring.
the sustain and never having to buy pots again is a good reason. you don't always start with it but it's certainly a good start for some champions.
You'll see a little of early aggressive dualists take it because it really helps their trade potential. Pre-potting was a bit of an undervalued mechanic before Corrupting Potion was introduced. Now popping CorrPot before a trade will almost certainly give you superior effective health, mana sustain, and damage to win your lane.
I buy it on
top. I could see
top using it also.
i think dorans shield is really under rated, the pros do a lot of things that arent recommended at lower elos, for example forgiven going attack speed blues instead of cdr or mr because he is confident in his abilities to juke skill shots
if you are against a skill shot heavy matchup and can juke well i see the value in corrupting pot, however i like to leave myself room to make mistakes. As mentioned by a few others I think most value is in lane bullies who run ignite who really want that early kill to snowball
