Why is nobody talking about Rek'Sai?
On release, she was kind of strong given her massive true damage and healing numbers, but she was still a bit clunky to work with given her odd Q animations and burrow/unburrow initiation.
Her ultimate was changed from a weird TP with her tunnels, into an execute that has no real control or strong tell on what can and can't be used to dodge it. While the change made her stronger, she became even more clunky and awkward to play.
Come season 8, she's kind of in a strange limbo of viability:
-
Her numbers are fine. She can scale well and really gets ahead when she starts picking up kills.
-
Her jungle clear isn't good. Unless she gets a hard leash on buff and skips raptors, she won't be able to clear the next buff, if not finishing it with sub 200 HP.
-
Her ultimate can be dodged as a point and click ability without any real consistency. Blinks like Leblanc' s and Flash dodge it outright, while things like Ahri dashes and Vayne's invisibility can't.
Jumps are inconsistent with what hits or misses, and Kayne's wall walk is a grab bag of fun interactions with Rek'Sai's ultimate.
She's a fun and interesting champion from both an artistic and game design standpoint. I hate to see her standing in such an awkward position for 2 seasons without having her awkward feeling ironed out.
