Ryze needs some base damage nerfs. Isn't he supposed to be a late game scaling mage?

Unlucky47··38 votes·1,724 views

His e q without any ap items takes half my health. The only way to dodge it is to flash or use a movement ability after he roots me. I did well in lane and everything and I fight him when he has tear and he wins solely off the raw fucking damage and shielding he gets.

Ok sure but why12 votes

he also scales with mana but yea

Unlucky477 votes

WAIT like he gets more damage with mana? That's ridiculous

Ok sure but why6 votes

Only 3% bonus mana at least, but item 3043 item 3040 item 3027 item 3165 item 3089 item 3135 is like a lot of mana

NineTailedMystic5 votes

He also just has straight Mana scalings on his abilities which is straight horseshit.

50000000000000001 votes

I think on its own, mana scaling is fine. It gives him another factor to scale off of, which makes him a great late game hypercarry.

What isn't fine is how he's also strong early.

NineTailedMystic3 votes

He also gets 5% of his maximum Mana as bonus Mana per 100 AP, on top of his spells scaling with bonus Mana. Not to mention of doesn't have to itemize for CDR at all, so he can go Tear and Catalyst and do fuck ton of damage still while he stacks up his Tear effortlessly and not require any aiming because of WEQ and then speeds off while shrugging off any retaliation because of his MS and shield respectively.

Except good ryze players always get cdr in runes and through items. CDR makes ryze completely busted since it reduces his E cd to even more spammable levels.

Idk about adding Manamune. That's 3 items that needs time to stack up, and one item that's most effective when bought early. It's nigh impossible to build all of those items and remain relevant throughout the game. He'll be strong with that build, I'm sure, but until he stacks both tears and RoA, he's gonna be pretty weak.

We just got to stack up two tears, built from the cries of our enemies. Who needs resistances and movement speed?

Ok sure but why1 votes

Ryze has built-in resistance and movement speed

Of course not I just didn't realize he got damage for mana because that sounds like an overloaded mechanic

Ok sure but why2 votes

Yes, Ryze has quite a few Overload mechanics

So you didnt even know this. After that i consider you not to be a really good player, so it propably has a lot to do with why did you lost to him.

Pros lose to him, too. This is a poor argument as he's currently a top competitive pick. As he always is the 10,000 times he's been overtuned.

ModJango Mage1 votes

I think hes kinda like Azir, exept harder to counterplay and easier. Since i really like him i hope he wont get "Azired".

ModAcademy Kayn6 votes

That's a complete lie. Unless you have 400 base health, and no MR, you're not going to take half your health. Without accounting MR, E-Q would do 150-ish total damage, give or take runes.

42 Magic resist, got killed at level 2. I was Lux and in the time I took to bind him, auto, E, auto ( which usually is a big burst ) he just killed me.. We were in my own wave of minions

Blackstone011 votes

Sounds like you were soaking quite a bit of damage all through level 1. Ryze shouldn't be able to burst level 2 nearly as much as you are claiming.

ModAcademy Kayn4 votes

Yeah that's a lie. It's literally mathematically impossible.

You're either lying or you let ryze auto you like 5 times while weaving his spells in between for free... Also standing inside the minion wave doesn't help

Danjeng3 votes

Why was Ryze even within range of you at level 2? His E has a range of 615, or 550 autoattack range. You should safely harrass with Q and E.

For some reason, a lot of the lux's I see decide to walk up to Ryze and autoattack Ryze, to get the illumination damage. Probably the dumbest thing you could do against THE battle mage.

Shhhhh this is how i win midlane in bronze against longer ranged mages.

Danjeng2 votes

Oops, sorry!

Do NOT read my earlier comment. To maximize damage as Lux, you should try to get closer to Ryze. That way, it will be harder for him to dodge your skill shots, and you can easily weave autos in between spells.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

And then he just runs at you cause of 340 base MS, Ghost, and passive MS boost.

Danjeng1 votes

At level 2?

NineTailedMystic1 votes

340 base MS and Ghost apply at level 2. Probably force a Flash.

LightIsMyPath1 votes

That is exactly what I did. I very rarely see ryze in bronze, I had no idea he could do that much damage! I just classified him as "late champion", wrongly implying he should have been weak early.. Instead he destroyed me

Danjeng1 votes

Well it's nice that you admit it. Real talk, poke him down with E. Save Q as leverage to use if he decides to trade. Even he needs to sidestep it if he wants to dodge it, slowing down his pursuit. A general tip is that if you stay 850 range away from Ryze, you would be safe, unless he blows a flash to get you.

Cassiopeia is also a similar case, and same thing applies to her.

Requiemsfire1 votes

You're implying that Ryze's AA E AA dealt more damage than Lux's Q AA E AA. I can tell you from experience that his AA E AA doesn't do a lot of damage especially compared to Lux's rotation.

HIS Q E Q on the other hand should drop you about 1/3 or maybe even half health if he took thunder lords however that still wouldn't kill you in 1 go. Even if he did take his Q and E, he wouldn't have his W to root you in place which by the way makes his Q fairly hard to land against competent opponents. Rather it's more likely you misplayed and overstayed when you were already at the risk of being picked off.

I'm not going to speak to the balance of Ryze, but a Champion can be balanced as moderate early game bully and a late game monster if his or her middle game is terrible. It's pretty easy to forget about a Champion's middle game, but it's still a factor that you need to address.

Golden Tager X5 votes

The one problem with that is the issue of them being able to bully around so much early they just rampage straight into the lategame with no issue whatsoever, this means that they have an ability to completely do away with a bad midgame by getting themselves and their team ahead to a point of it doesn't matter that my mid game isn't too great I am so far ahead by the time you catch up I will have fully outscaled you.

I never said my hypothetical Champion was able to bully around so much that it has the ability to almost always transition to lategame well. I said my hypothetical Champion was a moderate early game bully.

Ryze isn't a "moderate" early game bully.

One E Q in early game did half your hp?

Well, that's officially the biggest load of bullshit I have heard so far this year

sobi9992 votes

ryze does burst hard early game, wtf is wrong with people. Although i do believe his ult is straight up garbage until level 11. I do believe ryze got a nerf in the last patch or not?

hhaavviikk1 votes

I just want them to remove the point & click snare, there is no outplaying that shit, his E being necessary to make the snare last longer seems like a nifty idea except his E is also a point & click so no missing involved

Riot has determined that his W is a necessary evil to counter mobility creep. Targeted CC needs to exist in the game to play against the amount of mobility in the game. It's actually not that strong. His W used to be a lot stronger in his previous iterations. The cd is very long and the damage is mediocre.

KiritoErenMikasa1 votes

What are you talking about late game, the ability alone is a struggle to have an even trading of gold and towers to even get to late game, now most games are stomps at 15 minutes and its already decided.

Unlucky472 votes

That's my point. Mages like Cass, Syndra, and Ryze are meant to be strong late game champions. I don't think that I should be losing two thirds of my health from a level 2 ryze because he pressed two buttons on his keyboard. And then when he hits level 3 you lose the ability to dodge it.

h5LYF41Lam1 votes

beat the 44% winrate champion more.Is faker gonna visit gold and shit on people with ryze anytime soon?

Unlucky471 votes

Ekko also has a below 50% winrate. You willing to argue that he's not broken in the slightest way? Anyone that's good with ryze at all has more than a 50% winrate on him and people that one trick him probably have upwards of 60% or so.

Requiemsfire1 votes

Ekko has a 50% winrate, Hell Lux has 50% winrate in general on top of a 65% winrate on her mains.

AidenJacobs1 votes

raze has a short range counters simply have more range. Also half your hp is a load of horse shit.
