why does lucians ult exist when MFs ult exist?

lets be real here, lucians ult and MFs ult does the exact same thing, but MFs ult is AoE. AoE damage will ALWAYS be favored over single target damage, especially when the abilities are similar.

so in what situation is lucians ult better than MFs ult? especially when MFs ult does more damage even to single targets? the only scenario lucians ult is better is when chasing down a target, but how useful is that compared to the instant team winning fight ult that is MFs ult?

Oddly enough when Lucian got released, people asked that question backwards; what's the point of Bullet Time when The Culling exists?

Lucian can move while ulting which makes the skill better in duels, to chase, when you don't have an ally to lock down the enemy, or when used in a defensive manner (if you want to be doing dmg while kiting backwards). The skills may look similar but they serve different purposes.

MF can't move during her passive while Lucian can.

Lucian has mobility while MF only has an MS boost which deactivates while in combat.

Their kits are entirely different. You cannot compare any two abliities for balance purposes without factoring in the champion's entire kit.

Its better in the situation where someone walks out of mf ult lel

Lucian can attack the same target to deal lots of dps... Not juggle enemies...

Lucian ult can be used defensively better than mf because... As magickarpusedfly puts it, only use ult if your sure someone won't fuck you without buying you dinner. Mf ult is very strong and fast, but needs to be positiined right to succeed. Has no inate mobility other than strut which is lack luster...

"he can move" is not an argument. so can the enemy and infact he can have his shots blocked. MFs ult will always be valued over his.

But it is an argument. Just because it's an argument that means your complaining is pointless does not mean it holds no value.

MF's enemy can move too, either to step out of the AoE or to walk to her and force her to either get burst down or cancel her own ultimate to get away - in both situations, Bullet Time stops being useful and can't be used to its full potential. Lucian's ability to move while The Culling is active prevents that.

And yet it's the reason why Lucian has a chance to be picked competitively over MF.

It's apples and oranges, they're both ults but they fill different roles in the champion kits.
