Satire - TV Tropes

They remove one of the biggest and bestest game maps because they only care about money anymore and not players its alla bout thebig tournaments and money and skins and champions and not dominion

Riots worse company aver and our trying to disfrangize pple to maek monyes i spen 4030 Ritobux on Leugae of Legonds nd i wan thm bacck so i cna go spend m on ohter geems tht dont suk Rito made my lief hel an I want to die.

OR...

They laid out their point very clearly in the journal. Nobody really plays Dominion, they haven't been thinking about Dominion when making changes and additions to the game, and there isn't much point to keeping it around as a permanent fixture.

Yes, everything in the first half of this post was brutal satire. Just to see how many people ACTUALLY played Dominion, I looked at the match histories of several summoners on the announcement thread. None of the ones I looked at played Dominion. I wonder how many people are going to upvote this thread simply for bashing Riot for the dumbest and basest reason (I could have done a lot worse; I could have brought out the profanity and references to Hitler), and I wonder how many people are going to downvote it because I defended Riot for once.

By the way, not all of it is satire. I really do want to die after butchering the English language intentionally like that. It's a discipline that was EXTREMELY difficult to break (I had to actually put in a conscious effort to misspell everything) even for a brief moment. I might end up going all Chara on my monitor later on.

"Sir what are your views on Dominion?" "Meh. I never really cared I just play SR."

2 Weeks later

"Dominion is being removed." "WTF IS THIS THIS IS BS WHY."

You know, people don't worry about things until they are gone for good. Dominion is just one of those.

It's sad to see it go, but then again, I haven't really ever played Dominion, and in the current atmosphere and theme of League, it doesn't really fit at all, so... there's no real loss for me. It's an artifact of an older generation of Riot; one that ended shortly after I started playing (about 2013).

I think dominion is more used for botting accounts to lvl 30 than ppl actually playing it.

Lost R1 votes

I figured they were botting it for IP farming.

Bot to 30 with some IP, then sell it to people.

It doesn't matter how many people play Dominion. The fact is that a lot more people would have if Riot had supported the map. They are completely to blame for the decline.

Lost R1 votes

I'm pretty certain that even in the golden age of Dominion (if there ever was such a time), the rate that people played it was pretty dismal even then. Besides, the mechanics and nature of Dominion is vastly different from the Rift. Even Twisted Treeline is just a smaller version of the Rift, including even its own jungle and an epic Baron-esque monster. ARAM is just the Rift's mid lane and nothing else.

I'd say EA is oh-so-much worse.

Athenes Lulu1 votes

I thought we are not supposed to compare EA to anything decent...

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

I was giving a counter-argument to the title lol. Though I'm inclined to agree.

Lost R1 votes

Did you read anything past that?

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

Between the numbers in the title & the link; it seemed more of a rage/joke post.

Lost R1 votes

It was a satirical post. Obviously Riot is not the worst company, but people like to call them so anyways because bitchers gonna bitch.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

Indeed, and it's why I didn't go into any detail or anything overly serious.

If change is wanted, then the community must change. Everyone leave in protest and they get the message. That is about the only way. People stop playing, people stop watching LOL, then they will look at why. We have the power, we must only do it. But if .05% is all that plays the mode, and that number leaves, there will be obviously no real care for it. Everyone stay off League for a Day or maybe two. No one watch the league streams, give it no attention, then they will see. All peaceful protests that have made a difference are massive. It can be done. You just must do it.

The 22nd is the day it all goes away.

The 21st, 22nd, 23rd, we should all simply not do anything league. No logons, no stream watching, nothing to do with LOL. Send the message that you want sent.

It is peaceful, simple, blatant.

Lost R7 votes

Yeah, that's not going to happen. Whoever does boycott Riot won't appear even so much as a blip on the radar. We're talking millions of players internationally. TENS of millions. You'd need to get at least a million to boycott, AT LEAST, and they'd need to boycott long enough for Riot to take wind of it and respond to it.

If I can not play Riots game for 5 months and come back and feel nothing from it, then just leaving all together doesn't feel like it'll hurt at all. You act like this because you may not care, but honestly Summoner's Rift is a boring, go through the motions, game mode. Where Riot can't even allow players to do what they want, and forces solo (or duo) players to go through motions or find 4-9 friends who want to do what you were wanting to do.

If Riot keeps this up:

  • Bad (poor) champion changes
  • Removal of popular game modes

Then things are probably not going to go so well. The LC$ seems to lost its spark as I find people on here complain about how boring it is. Riot Obviously favors SR because CS, TT, and HA never got champion mastery. And a simple game mode per month wouldn't be so bad. I'd love to have a month of URF, then back to Dominion, then some Doom Bots, and then on and on.

Lost R1 votes

Poor champion changes like Poppy's rework, which made her suddenly HEAPS more popular? How about Shen or Sion? Gangplank sees a lot more play now, too. And let's not get started on Taric; everyone is holding their breath with anticipation. And what popular game modes did they remove? Dominion's the only one so far, and it wasn't very popular. Again, only 0.5% were actually playing it (1 in 200 people), and how many of that .5% were actually playing it regularly? Of that number, how many weren't bots?

The other game modes they "removed" they even said explicitly, multiple times, that they weren't permanent game modes. So no, they didn't really remove ANY game modes until now, much less any popular ones.

Rew7112 votes

How is it I say "poor champion changes" and you think of "reworks". Besides, its obvious that you must have missed the nerfs GP is going to get and the fact you left out the changes they made to other champions that really didn't need anything drastic.

Lost R1 votes

Large changes are the only things people have reason to care about (entire changes to skills or added/removed effects and mechanics), unless you're a person who just likes to bitch. I remember the shitstorm more than a few people raised because Vayne a few patches ago got three less AD starting off. Or perhaps the nerf to Yasuo a few years ago that gave him 50 less shield and made at least one guy demand a refund for his Yasuo skins.

Hello I am Bird1 votes

Or get a couple of pros to boycott it.

blkh11 votes

Oh I agree, it would have to be a boycott of everyday players (literally millions of us) and pros. This boycott would have to be for awhile as well, not just a few days. I realize it will never happen, but this is in the end what it would take.

What if I don't actually disagree with Riot's choice (I know, hate me for it)? Do I still protest or...?

blkh11 votes

I don't honestly care if dominion stays or goes. If you want it to stay then you must have a large peaceful response to get them to change it. If you are like myself and don't really care whether they keep it or not then you are under no circumstances obligated to show support to the dissenters. I hate how people will be guilted into joining the dissenting group just because of their so called principles. Do what you feel is right, don't feel pressured to believe anything you don't. Be willing to listen though.

There are a few of us who actually play it.

I've got nearly 4k games. There are some folks with even more. High MMR is a pretty tight-knit community. Everyone knows each other.

If anything, the game still needs a 15-25 minute game mode. But chances are it would get just as neglected.

That's kind of the point. Believe it or not, the language of the League community is so much worse.

Jacobofcourse1 votes

Overall, it is kind of crazy that is going away. I personally don't play it all anymore since they have put in so much work into SR to make it better. However, the initial lunch of Dominion was insane. There was so much time put in to the release and everyone thought it would take over SR. It was a great game mode for a short time but once a meta began to form, it began to lose a lot of people's interest. This also goes with the fact there wasn't ranked queue. More people seem to be made about the map itself going away than the game mode. I hope RIOT sticks with updating Dominion and adds it in the specialty game mode rotation.

Lost R1 votes

They implied that might actually be the case.

Dominion proven to be a failed concept. Sorry guys, that's the fact.

I'm surprised that Riot did nothing to fix glaring issues Dominion had for 4 years of its existence.

And I'm quite worried, as TTL map will be second to be retired. And you don't have to be a genius to connect the dots:

  • Bots
  • No balance team or anything
  • Bugs not fixed (turrets with 0 armor) for pretty LONG time

Also how the f#ck have they decided that " after years of learning, it’s clear today that alternative game modes work better in short cycles rather than as standalone queues."

How can they say something, when they have not tried even checking results of long-term alternative game modes. How they suddenly came up with the idea that we, players, favor short-term silly modes 5 times a year? And on top of that Dominion was the most boring and lame game mode of them all..

Lost R1 votes

I'm going to guess Riot has more access to information than the community likes to think they do.

Saianna1 votes

But where would they get that information if there were no test of long-term game modes other than Dominion/ARAM?

What made them choose that 7 to 14 days is enough of a game mode PER YEAR?

Riot is way too greedy when it comes to enabling game modes. They are supposed to feel new and fresh. For me waiting whole 351 days just to find that I cannot play much in the game mode I like due to RL is the saddest bullshit ever.

That's what happen to me on last URF. From all the fun event I had only half a day to play. Yep, I'm smiling like total retard while waiting for aprils fools and only pray silently that nothing will come up in RL this time.

ƒoes1 votes

I understand this is satirical and all, but in all honesty (I'm speaking for other people like myself), it's most likely not Riot that made the decision. They were putting time and effort into making sure Dominion still worked every patch, and time is money. They were blowing money on a map that is below average in Riot's terms, and not to mention that it was rarely played. It could have been a marketing flaw with Riot, but in the end, it was more than likely that Tencent made the decision to remove it, not Riot.

Also, "ritobux" is what I'm calling RP now.
