Unpopular opinion : Janna changes are GOOD

I have seen many threads of people saying that Janna will have to play even more passively after the changes, because "her trading potential gets nerfed".

This is absolutely not true, and here is the proof.

Let's see the buffs to her trades :

-q CD decreased -q mana cost decreased (90 to 60 (!!!)) -q range increased when double tap -attack range increased by 75 (!!!) -auto attack animation made smoother -damage buff to her auto attacks, by adding a bonus MS ratio on it -move speed buffed by 5% (due to passive changes) -base HP buffed (487 to 525 (!!!))

Now let's see the nerfs to her trades :

-base AD nerfed by 6 -AD/lvl nerfed (from ~3 to 1,5) -HP/lvl nerfed (from 78 to 70) -her shield now has a 18/16/14s cooldown in laning phase (assuming you are maxing it)

So now let's see some points to her damage and her HP :

-damage : she loses 6 AD and 1.5 AD/level, but her passive gives her 12 damage with 1 point in W : --> that is a raw buff till level 4.

-HP : she gets 40 HP but -8HP/level : --> raw buff till level 5.

Janna now has the tools to effectively fight early game.

When I say fight, I am talking about base damage stats, base HP, and ability to do damage ( I am not sure if you guys realize how good a +75 range buff is).

To compensate these buffs, Janna has her current main trading ability CD going up to 18s. This nerf is huge, because Janna won't be able to shield every damage incoming.

This actually means Janna will have to pull off some damage if she wants to win 2v2.

Being able to poke and kite with auto attacks is now required to win lane. How does this make Janna more passive ?? I am glad about these changes, because a good Janna will carry the lane by poking the best she can, while a bad one will only pull off a shield every 18s. Which is NOT enough to stay in lane.

Now let's talk about mid-late game : Janna is almost the same, except :

-she loses 3% on the MS she gives to her allies -she has a better Q (mana cost, range, and possibly CD if you are under level 15) -W has less CD -she loses a lot of AD (that no one cares about, given that she is not made for that anyways) -she loses a lot of base health, which makes her more easily punishable (not that much though)

Which does not solve her passivity later on (that also is what defines the most the character - and what people love when playing her), because her E CD goes back to 10 after level 9, just as live. The only difference is that Janna can now get hard bullied in lane with such a long CD on her shield, which definitely impacts her late game.

TL;DR : Janna can't win 2v2 fights with only E anymore. She now has to do damage through auto attacks and spells to win them, which makes her less passive - which is what every player wanted. Janna has much more skill expression, at least in early game. Does not change that much in late game though.

Tbh as a Janna player, Im not completely sure that these changes will be exactly like her old playstyle (what riot intended to change) but make her more like Sona or Nami. We will just have to see though because putting most of her damage on autos is a bit weird but it's interesting. I kinda like the direction she's going in.

Yeah she will be pretty different early game, while being pretty much the same later on. I love the idea of the change tho!
