When exactly do we fight Gnar?

His mega form has: a gap closer that can proc again 2 stuns, one being wide enough to cover the lane, which increases upon hitting a wall,gg and a slow, damn thats quite a kit

but his mini form will kite you to death. thing has a slow, speed boost and gap closer, which can also be activated again. its literally the #1 weakness of the top lane. Its ranged,so if you want to do damage you gotta burn your gap closer, with which he should respond to with his. not to mention that it deals % health damage. i imagine since you are essentially waiting for the mega form to fight, you would think the mini is some hyper defensive form with low chance of damage, like how Diana ,Chogath and Akali are and Nidalee was,yet , you can kill with mini if you play aggressively.

Bait the Mega form. Leave the fight. As He begins to transform back into mini. Destroy him. Especially if he attempts to leap onto you and misses. That is when Gnar is at his absolute weakest.

Favourable situation to fight Gnar:

  • After he uses his E. Remember that it have 18 seconds cooldown at rank 1 (and he will probably keep it at rank 1 till level 14), which is way more than most other gapclosers top laners have (For example - Irelia have her on 8 seconds cooldown and Pantheon have his on 13s cd). He can't really kite effectively without his E, considering that most melee top laners can stick to him once they get close.

  • After he fails to grab his Q. If he does that then it have 20-10s cooldown, which is also pretty long.

  • Just before he transforms into Mini-Gnar. His mobility is limited severly on Mega Gnar form and if it's already ending then he won't be able to benefit from increased stats for long (or at all if you hard-CC him). This can also force him to abandon his rock (especially if you play it well) and as such he won't have his boomerang either. Just keep in mind that he gets the ms boost once he's out of Mega Gnar.

  • Try to hide in bushes as often as you can. He can't autoattack you there and if he tries to facecheck - he's dead.

  • Avoid trading single hits with him. Either go all-in or try to not get hit at all.

  • The stacks on his W have a rather low duration (3 seconds I believe). Sometimes just going into bush may be enough to get rid of them before he gets vision of you again (though, he can still hit you with his Q in the bushes, so be ready to dodge).

  • Just after he transformed. Mini-Gnar is incredibly squishy (he is roughly as squishy as Teemo on level 1 and is more and more squishy as the levels progress) and you can burst him out rather quickly. Also, his movement speed is rather crap even in mini form. To reach 340 that most bruisers have (well, actually most have 345) he needs level 12.

  • If you are playing a great dueler that lacks skills to catch him (for example Trundle or Olaf) - play a bit different and engage when he's in Mega Gnar form (preferably after he uses some of his skills to farm minions). You should be able to kill him.

  • After 6 try to fight him in the very middle of the lane when he is in Mega Form. Chances are he won't be able to stun you with ultimate.

Do not:

  • Go all in on him when he is about to transform or just transformed (unless you are confident you can take him out).

  • Do not underestimate his engage potential when he is transforming (Bouncy E into Mega Gnar W or R can break you).

  • Do not underestimate his health gain when he is transforming (so if you see that level 4 Mini-Gnar at 100 health (and effective physical health of around 130) - keep in mind that on Mega Gnar he will have a bit over 300 health (and effective physical health of around 408)). It's enough to turn the tides of battle.

  • Remember that Gnar can transform into Mega Gnar at will once he have full rage bar - even if both his Q and E are on CD, as he can use W or R to transform too (and neither of those have an active in Mini-Gnar, so they can't go on CD on Mini Gnar).

  • His W is magic damage, so if you see him maxing it - consider buying some magic resist.

u should make a vote for never. the second he gets out of his melee he can spam q and kite u because riot decided its time to give ms boosts to ranged cunts who know how to just aa u over and over.
