Guests Characters in LoL

Since league is currently "The biggest online game ever", Riot could be in a good position to reach out and try to get some Guest Characters for their game. Other big-name devs are grabbing guest characters and it helps drive interest in the games or create bridges between communities (Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and Namco).

So what's stopping us from seeing Cloud or Mega Man in League of Legends? Or even Riot's iteration of a DotA 2 character, or a Smite god?

Copyright would be a huge thing. same with skins, having a guess character wouldnt really work with this game. When you have a guest like that, usually a contract needs to be made. When that happens there is usually a time limit so to have a champion that will only be in the game for maybe a year or two wouldnt really work, especially when the character goes away whether the contract gets renewed or not. With the copyright it might not be own by just one company, so they would need to come to an agreement (like cost) which might not fair well with riot especially with their current price on champions. Im sure there are much more that goes into getting a Guest character and it would be too much of a hassle. i would rather Riot just stick to their game, champions, skins, etc.

I would genuinely and permanently quit this game if characters from other works of fiction were added to the game.

I almost stopped playing entirely upon seeing Volibear. There is literally nothing about that champion that is not stolen directly from the Golden Compass.

Uhh... why?

If Riot works with another company and gets the right to use a character, what's wrong with that

Pretty sure Riot can already use any god in Smite, since they're actual pantheon gods.

I like this idea.....Nothing permanent though.

If riot WERE to do this, it behoove them to just make skins for indie games that reach out to THEM. Like.... step 1) Riot makes an announcement saying that game developers can contact them and collab to create special skins. step 2) Skins are 400RP a pop, regardless of quality (as quality would be, mostly dictated by the collab) Step 3) Collab skins go off the market after a few weeks. Step 4) Buying the collab game also gets you the skin at all times. Step 5) Riot gets good PR for helping out indie game devs and new people come to try the game. Also riot collabs would gain the ability to put league character into cameo positions (like Zed, Shen, Akali, and Kennen showing up as an easter egg in a coffee shop eating schwarma).

That woould be neat, but do you think RIot is big enough to land Freddy Kreuger-tier deals ?

Yeah. Largest free to play MOBA on the market with millions of players world wide; if riot were t offer such a... thing they would make shit tons of money. and because you get the skin when you buy the game, riot could easily add in a small % of game sales goes to them.
