Fiddlesticks struggles as a laner, and is more suited as a jungler. His waveclear is atrocious with his birds costing so much, so playing him in the lane may have been mistake #1.

I've heard this a lot, everytime I pick him my team says 'Why would you pick fiddle?'.

Take him into the jungle then, you'll do much better there. His ultimate is more suited for surprise attacks from the jungle than one of the two lane bushes in mid, and there's more one on one combat with monsters where he can utilize his drain more so than his crows.

Here's a tip. Don't play fiddle. (Dont take my advice, I just really hate his crows.)

The trick to lane fiddlesticks is to take advantage of his passive when you can. You automatically stop to auto, and your animation makes you wait a bit anyway. Obviously, don't do this every time you auto (you don't want to be predictable) but every now and then (if you want to gapclose for fear/drain) just wait a moment after that attack animation, then zoon up and Q/E/W.

But I've always found fiddle to be best used against people who have to always be in close proximity to you for their full burst. Kat, Zed, and Talon are my top 3 mids to play the Middlesticks. With Zed and Talon, pop your ult the literal moment they pop theirs. (waste NO time or you die) then zhonyas immediately. This dodges their burst while getting heavy damage on them with your own, then you can clean up after stasis ends with Q/E/W. With Kat, just every time she tries to jump near you, Q/E/W. And the moment the fear ends, get out of range.

Kind of a niche situation but if you see that you are about to be dove you can go ahead and begin channeling your ult so that it activates right as they jump on you. In addition stop watch should always be one of the first items you buy.

To be honest he's mediocre in the jungle as well.

  1. He has abysmal clear speeds that are exasperated by:
  2. Fiddle is very blue reliant to improve his clear speeds, which means an invasion of his blue hurts, which is unfortunate because:
  3. Fiddle is a terrible duelist, which is awful not only because he needs his blue, but also because:
  4. Fiddle really wants level 6 to gank, and is very ult-reliant; this is problematic not only in light of his slow clears but also:
  5. His ultimate has a really long cooldown and his pressure without it is pretty poor, which is particularly sucky considering:
  6. Fiddle falls off late game and (still) relies on his ultimate, with his Q facing the ever-present QSS; this is rough because:
  7. Just as with ganking, his ultimate is profoundly telegraphed and is negated by CCing him or walking away at an opportune time.

His many weaknesses all synergize, pretty outdated champion all-in-all.
