Why do % bonus to heal shields exist?

rather than just AP/health to improve them through their scaling

never understood why this is the case; the only one I see getting picked of the group is redemption anyhow.

Because Riot doesn't seem to want utility supports to build AP from their support items.

That and a good AP support item is abused by midlaners.

never understood that either; was it ever actually a problem?

it would probably make them a lot healthier and more distinguishable to balance them around having AP, then you could establish one of the inferior Jannas as having a better late or early game

is it to prevent mages from having discount AP items? you could easily make offensive items to work mostly for champs that have heals and shields and utility.

Remember when midlaners abused the support AP item?

Plus AP is a snowball stat since you have no base for it, with supports needing to buy items like sightstone first, it would be kinda pointless to build AP so late. Especially if your team isn't snowballing (which puts you further behind).

the biggest issue with fqc was the mana regen being so strong, just a frostfang was as much as morellos

but I think that AP items focused around being best utilized by support kits would be a good idea

Supports need cheap items.
AP items are relatively costly.
A cheap AP item would be good for Support but busted for solo lanes.

Since the primary reason for stacking AP is for shields and heal, it's fine for it to have its own dedicated stats.

As a result, AP items are expensive, +healing items are cheap and utility items have poor offensive stats to limit solo laners using them (i.e.: S6 Frost Queen's Claim).

You are a single player. You fail to see much of what players actually use.
